Botan turned to the now awake Jack and addressed each of his questions. "I'm sorry to tell you this, but Buddhism is not the way that that the afterlife works. Matter of fact, Christianity is the closest thing to the actual order of things. Even then, its not all correct. As you will see, no religion on Earth is truly the 'correct' one." Botan explained happily to Jack.

"So then Ms. Tanya... Botan," Alex corrected himself, "what exactly do we do now?"

"Now, we wait until Angelo wakes up since he is the last one to do so. THEN! You guys get to see the ruler of the Spirit World." Botan clapped happily in excitement.

"But how do you intend to explain this" (here she gestured with her hands) if someone comes along?" Lina asked Botan as she gestured to the room full of dead students.

"Oh, well, you see Lina, you guys are actually the only ones who can see the door to this room. Spiritual Awareness determines who can enter this room and who can't. So no one is going to stumble upon your bodies. However, if something unexpe-OWW!!!!" Botan was headbutted off of her oar by a very angry Sonny. "What the hell was that for!?"

"Now, I would appreciate it greatly if you would be so kind as to undo the process of death and return me to my previous state!" Sonny barked with arms crossed.

"Ugh, that really hurt! And if you must know, I can't put you back into your bodies just yet! If I did that you would just die again due to the Devilmist in the room." Botan grumbled as she got back on her oar.

"I... you've killed us!?" Sonny was still taking time to register this. "You... I... murderess! I name thee murderess!" Sonny was making a scene, but he didn't care; he was incredibly unhappy about having been killed, and he wanted Ms. Tanya to know about it. He pointed an accusatory finger at her, and unexpectedly the oar she'd been sitting on flashed and burst into flames.

"Oh... oh my goodness, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to do that!" Sonny covered his mouth with his hands. "I, uh... I'll get you a new oar! Wait, no; no I won't! I'm still mad at you for killing me! Oh, but I suppose this is kind of fair..." She takes my life, and I burn her stick? That's fair? Oh, it was a really nice stick, though...

"EEEP!" Botan Yelped as she jumped off her oar a split second after it burst into flames. "Knock it off Sonny! If you use up too much of your spirit energy while you're a ghost then you will cease to exist completely. You won't just be dead, you'll be NOTHING!" Botan warned the peeved boy.

Botan Summoned another oar and whacked Sonny upside his ghostly head. "Now please try and calm down. I told you, you aren't going to be like this for long. Less than 6 hours to be exact. Do you think you all can behave that long?" Botan kindly requested to the group.

Angelo cleared his senses from the smoke and looked at the now called Botan. She now had blue hair and a pink Kimono as opposed to what she used to look like. She seemed fairly cheerful since she just tried to kill all of them, but everyone was still standing...

And lying down at the same time?

Everyone seemed to be floating, not standing! Angelo included, and not only that, they also had another them lying down limp on the floor. Am...am I dead? Angelo thought and looked back up to Botan, still a cheery woman. How can she still be smiling after all this, unless, she knows we'll be mad, but can make it right? It was a flimsy theory, she could easily be a sadist, but she didn't seem like the type. Angelo decided to think she had a back up plan, though that didn't mean that he trusted her, and by god did he not trust her so much after killing them all without a second thought.

Angelo noticed Sonny scrapping with Botan, voicing displeasure at a very high volume that was distracting to say the least, but her attacking was definitely not what Botan had planned and she would call it rather distressing at the least, judging by her face after a headbutt to the back. He went forward to intervene, but Botan retaliated with a swing of her oar.

"Now please try and calm down. I told you, you aren't going to be like this for long. Less than 6 hours to be exact. Do you think you all can behave that long?" Botan asked with a clear effort to defuse to tension.

"Fine," Angelo replied, "Just assure me I'll have my body back." He floated near Sonny and whispered; "Best do as she says. She might be the only one who can bring us back and killing would mean us being dead forever."

Lina gaped at Sonny's (understandable) actions. Damn... gotta remember not to piss that kid off...

Then Botan's words hit her brain and made her blink.

"Wait, wait, wait, back up. Are you saying we'll just... disappear if we overuse our... spirit energy?"

The thought of disappearing forever terrified her for some reason. Maybe the whole existentional aspect of it unnerved her.

Finally, Angelo arose from his comatose state, however, he took his death quite calmly compared to the others. "Oh, Angelo's awake! Now we can get the show on the road!" Botan cheerfully exclaimed.

"Wait, wait, wait, back up. Are you saying we'll just... disappear if we overuse our... spirit energy?" Lina spat out quickly.

"Well, while you're a ghost yes. the only thing holding your soul together is a layer of spirit energy surrounding it like a wall. If you use too much of that energy while you are a ghost, your wall will break and your soul will disperse into the nether. So please, try and control your powers, I would cry if anything were to happen to you this early in your careers." Botan smiled as she floated away from the group.

"Alright everyone, form a line and hold each other's hands. Like those little monkeys in a barrel." Botan ordered the group. Reluctantly, the group formed a line of ghosts. From front to back, the line was made up of Jason, Jack, Angelo, Sonny, Damien, Lina, and Alex.

"Very good, now Jason, please hang on to the end of my oar tightly please." Botan asked nicely.

"Umm....Why!!?!?!?" Jason asked with blatant reluctance.

"Because my oar can fly faster than you can, and if you guys hang on to it, we can get to Spirit World faster. And the faster we get to Spirit world, the faster we get you guys back to your bodies!" Botan explained with enthusiasm.

It didn't take Jason long to follow her train of thought and agree that this would be the fastest way back to his body. "Hang on tight everyone!" Jason called out to the rest of the group.

"Here we go!!!!" Botan yelled as she took off straight towards the wall.

shit shit shit shit! we're gonna hit the wall!!! Jason thought frantically just before passing harmlessly through the wall like it wasn't there. Holy shit! We have fucking Noclip!

The sun shined brightly over head as Botan and the string of ghosts attached to her oar soared through the air, climbing higher and higher until they were able to see the entirety of Danmour from a bird's eye view.

Whoooooaaaaaaa

Seeing things from a different vantage point was amazing to say the least. Jason never knew just how small the town was until viewed from above.

Botan soared higher and higher until they reached the clouds. She shot straight into the biggest one. Halfway through, a portal opened inside the cloud and transported all of the ghosts into the sky above Spirit World. A majestic yellow land greeted their eyes along with a blood red river flowing through it.

"Welcome to Spirit World!!! Our destination is just ahead!" Botan shouted back to the group.

Jason took a break from gawking at the scenery to look straight ahead. What he saw he almost couldn't believe. A colossal Feudal Japanese palace stood on plateau miles above the ground.

Soon, Botan set the group down on the doorstep and pressed a button on the palace wall. "Hello there, Botan here, I have returned from Human world with the new Spirit Detectives. Please Open the door." Botan spoke into the microphone next to the button. By doors, she was refering to the 500 ft tall monstrosities that the group stood in front of.

"Yes ma'am, Koenma has been waiting all morning for you. Come on in." A voice replied from the speaker next to the microphone.

A panel on the colossal doors slid open, it was about the size of a normal doorway so there was no trouble entering. Inside the doors was something no one could have believed.

"I NEED RESURRECTION FORMS FILLED OUT FOR MICHEAL JACKSON!!!!!"

"THE COPIER IS JAMMED AGAIN!"

"DAMMIT! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU!? DAMNATION APPEAL MUST BE SIGNED IN TRIPLICATE AND STAMPED BY KOENMA FOR APPROVAL!!!"

Ogres of every shape and size were yelling and bustling about in a fashion similar to the Stock market. Each one working on getting the proper paperwork filed to make sure the souls of the dearly departed are properly sorted into Heaven or Hell or other.

"Whooooaaaaaa." Was all Jason could say as he followed Botan as she weaved her way through the ogres.

Once the group had run through the bureaucratic gauntlet, they arrived at an office door.

"Alright everyone, please behave yourselves. Remember, you are dealing with the ruler of Spirit World." Botan reminded the group before opening the door.

Inside was a desk, a large monitor on the wall, and a toddler sitting in the Captain's chair behind the desk. The toddler was fairly odd though, he wore a tall, light blue hat along with a matching colored shirt, and yellow pants. A big JR stood out on his forehead.

"Hello everyone. I am Koenma, it is a pleasure to meet you all. I have called you all here because I need your help..."

Damien looked and couldn't see the so called 'Spirit World Ruler.' "Where the hell is he? I don't see the man at al- oh." Damien had been looking straight, and perhaps a little up. After all, what better position to look down on the accused than being able to look down? Then Damien looked at the chair and saw Koenma. To his own suprise, he wasnt even amazed in the slightest a child was in control of the whole operation. Made a sick sort of sense, actually. "Oh joy. When I die, my soul will be in the hands of a bureaucracy of ogres looking for paperwork in triplicate and a child who's still suckin' on a pacifier. I am royally fucked." Damien said in a completely deadpan voice. He shook his head when he heard Koenma's request. "Again, not suprised at all. On the bright side, Spirit World seems to operate on the same basis of 'use, wear-out, and trash' as America, so maybe I have a chance." Damien laughed, a harsh, bitter sound. His sense of gallows humor was having a field day with today's events. "Okay, let's hear it now: what do ya want?"

Lina held on tightly as they flew through the air, shutting her eyes tightly to block out out the sight of the ground rapidly rushing away from them, even if they were "dead".

After what felt like an eternity, their feet touched the ground, and Lina opened her eyes. In front of them were giant doors that towered over their heads like looming skyscrapers. As she looked, Lina vaugely overheard Botan talking into a speaker, mentioning something about "Spirit Detectives".

Before she could dwell on this, though, a panel in the door opened and they all stepped through into a room full of what would have looked like a normal stock exchange if not for all the ogres running around.

She and the others followd Botan into an office where the ruler of the Spirit World was said to be... only to find what looked like a toddler waiting for them instead. Lina couldn't help but gape.

She quickly composed herself in time to hear... Koenma, was it? ...saying something about needing their help.

Well... this is not certainly something I was expecting...

"I have brought you all here to ask a favor of you...To become the next generation of Spirit Detectives working for Spirit world." Koenma announced to the group, his pacifier moving as he spoke.

"However, I am not going to force this upon you, being a Spirit Detective has many risks and dangers, but also has great benefits. A Spirit Detective is charged with the protection and well-being of the Human world. And thus, they must a plethora of challenges and enemies in order to secure peace for the Human world. However, I did mention some benefits to this job. In addition to the powers that you have already awakened, you will be given special training by our personal instructor to improve those powers. Also you will have Botan here to fill you in on anything you want to know about the supernatural and this world. Think of her as an encyclopedia. She will act as your assistant throughout your travels. Another thing is that you will each get a weekly stipend of $500 in Human currency. Lastly, you will each be given one of these."

Koenma reached into his pocket and pulled out a golden chicken egg. "This is a Spirit egg, contained inside is a Spirit beast that feeds off of the energy of your actions and emotions. Your feelings and actions throughout its incubation period will determine just what sort of creature hatches from it. If you have a good heart and do good to others, then the spirit beast will be kind in the same manner, think of it as a reflection of yourself. Once it hatches, it will protect you and guide you on the path you need to go."

"On top of all of these things, there are many tools at the disposal of the Spirit Detective. However those will be explained once you all make a choice." Koenma's eyes grew serious. "If you wish to opt out of this, then I will not stop you, but it would be for the best if you would work for me. What say you?" Koenma asked the group.

Damien yawned. "Let's see... Forget about this whole thing, 'n risk blowin' my head off with my own ability, or be attacked by another, more powerful demon 'n die, or learn how to instead blow the heads off the creatures aiming fer my jugular. Not really a 'ard choice, is it?" Damien took the golden egg and examined it. "So, what happens if our hearts are as black as night, to use the cliche? Do we get savaged by the chicken from hell." Damien looked up at Botan's and Koenma's faces and gaped. "You're kidding, right? Shit. Okay, time to find out how long I can hold a bible without burning." he shook his head. "Okay, I'm ignoring the chicken from hell fer the moment. Now, how the hell do we amp our powers if using them sentences us to oblivion?"

Lina thought it over. It sounded like.. an interesting job. Sure it sounded dangerous, but at the same time, would help her develop her new abilities. Plus, the pay was pretty good, though she wondered where they got it from...

There was also the whole Spirit Egg" thing. If it would hatch reflecting her personality, well, what kind of creature would appear?

"Okay, I'm in." She said at last. "But out of curiosity, just how did we getb these... powers anyway?"

Alex wasn't listening to Koenma 100% though he knew that he probably should be. Still, he just couldn't help it; the hustle and bustle of the spirit world around him was just way too interesting. It was both strangely similar and a whole world different from what he knew.

He was listening enough though and in particular when he heard about the pay he actually gagged a little bit in surprise. Alex knew that his family wasn't poor, but neither did they have a lot of money and the possibilities of what he could do with that was quite staggering.

But it was only a few seconds later that his mind started to fill in what exactly getting that money would entail. In particular all the things he didn't know.

"Excuse me, Koenma sir?" Alex asked turning his attention to the child, "What exactly does a spirit detective do though? I mean, what does protecting the Human world involve? Are we talking about Superman stuff or something?"

Angelo half heard to what Koenma told him; a job offer as Spirit Detective, an egg and pay cheque, but the other half of the time one thought was stuck in his head that distracted him from everything around him. That everything was being run by someone who only came up to his waist he he was wearing a hat that doubled his height. This was unbelievable, especially since he was still sucking on a pacifier. An infant was ruling an operation and had more authority than anyone he had seen today. Angelo's heart sank at this, and wanted to question it, but Botan's look, as if this kid really was the boss around here, kept him quiet.

"I...I accept your proposal." Angelo replied to Koenma, "I've always wanted to do good for this world, and having you give me the tools to do this is something I need. I know I need it."

Koenma looked to Damien. "Oh, no. You are free to do whatever you want with your powers. Think of it as a karma system. If you do good things, then your spirit beast will reflect that. As for your training, our special trainer isn't with us yet, but they will be here soon." Koenma explained to the boy.

"Just how did we get these... powers anyway?" Lina asked.

"Well, to be honest, its a combination of: you were born with them, and the spiritual disturbances around Danmour that have caused your powers to awaken."

"Excuse me, Koenma sir?" Alex asked turning his attention to the child, "What exactly does a spirit detective do though? I mean, what does protecting the Human world involve? Are we talking about Superman stuff or something?"

"A spirit detective's job is to prevent Demons and other entities from wreaking havoc on Human world. Their operations are overseen directly by me. Meaning that I will be the one assigning all of your cases to you. Protecting the Human world means that you will be doing a lot of detective work in your free time off of school. You will also be faced with many enemies who wish to do you and your friends harm. You must defeat these enemies and persevere through these trials.

Koenma turned to Angelo, who had accepted his role as a Spirit Detective. "Thank you Angelo, once I have recieved a definite answer from each of you, I will explain your first case to you."

"I'll take the job only on 2 conditions:1)My Mom approves of my work and 2)I want to fight a truly powerful opponent." Jack said with a smile.

Koenma turned to Jack with a look of concern. "Your mother does not need to be involved in this if at all possible. Two, you will get plenty of exercise from your cases, don't worry about that.

Jason's head hurt. Trying to process all of this new information was a colossal task. However, he was snapped out of his stupor when he was told about the Spirit Egg.

"So, just how long will it take for this Egg to hatch?" Jason asked.

"Hmm...Anywhere from Two weeks, to several months. It all depends on how much energy it collects each day." Koenma explained.

"Alright, I guess i'm cool with that. I agree to become a Spirit Detective and Protect the world!" Jason shouted loudly and charismatically in an attempt to look cool.

Koenma's eyes narrowed at Jason's cheesy pose. "Son, you're embarrassing yourself. Calm down before you start doing the Carameldansen as a victory dance."

Jason blushed with embarrassment and quickly apologized. "Sorry,I get a bit carried away sometimes." Damn! He saw right through me! How did he know that I was going to do the Carameldansen to celebrate my first Job?"

Back in Human world....
========================================

Gary stood in front of the school smirking at how easy this was going to be. He was in human form, dressed in a similar fashion to Chuck and Lenny. just pop into the attendance office, pretend to be Bleu's dad, have them bring her to me, a few smacks later and BAM! I get a raise!

He opened the glass doors and walked inside to the office. "Excuse me, but would you mind calling my daughter down here? Her name is Bleu and she has a dentist appointment today." He asked with a grin.

The old woman at the desk sighed as she pushed a button on the intercom to call Bleu to the front office. "Would Bleu please report to the front office? Will Bleu please report to the front office. Thank you."

Bleu was in Mr. Thompson's class when she was called on the intercom. "What could they possssibly want from me?" Bleu mumbled to herself as she hobbled down to the main office. Her eyes widened in fear as she saw who was at the desk.

"Ello Bleu, I've missed you..." Gary purred as he approached Bleu.

"No...not again! Why won't you people leave me in peassse!" Bleu Screamed as she took off down the hall.

"Now now Bleu! You have a dentist appointment!!! Don't make this any harder than it has to be!!!"
