I finished F.E.A.R 2 today.

I noticed half-way into the game that there was no gore which the game was 'famed' for. How did i notice? Well, instead my enemies into clouds of blood, they turned into clouds of dust. This is logical since anyone familiar with Alma's handiwork knows that she has a tendency to makes illusions. Anyways, i turned on the gore and enjoyed being showered in digital blood throughout the rest of the game.

But it got me thinking, Monolith did a good job disguising the blood. Which other company does this sort of thing? And which method you personally support?

Obsidian. It seems like your average game, until you get your hands on a Assualt Rifle and the Bloody Mess perk..

In the onimusha series, capcom did it by changing the color of blood, to green. Halo did the same thing by making it blue. I personally like the version where old fashion red blood splatters everywhere.

Studio 51 did it with the PAL edition of No More Heroes. when enemies are sliced to shit, instead of spurting blood they spurt a mysterious black fluid. I didn't even notice until someone pointed it out in a review, so it must have been effective.

If you turn off the "Extreme Content" in Gears of War, every time you chainsaw someone, you see sparks instead of blood. Heads also don't explode.

There's red blood in the marines in Halo. You can literally paint an entire corridor red by hitting their corpses for a few minutes.

I think the best way is when you just play gory games for so long you just become desensitized to it, praise fallout 3 and its bloody mess perk!

oddly enough, that probably makes it more realistic

Serious Sam allows you to turn the blood option to hippie. Instead of jibbs, various vegetables fly all over the place and blood splatters and stains are replaced by flower patches. That's obviously taking the piss a bit though. On a more serious note, Ninja Gaiden 2 for the PS replaced alll the blood with spectral energy. I like that. It's as though you're releasing their souls.

Of course in some areas this doesn't actually work, such as the giant worm. They must have said "fuck it, not gonna bother replacing all these guts".

To make the game about robots. Then they bleed oil, not blood of body parts.

Serious Sam has this too and some other gore replacements, like hippy-style flowers and stuff flowing everywhere.

Brutes have red blood, I think only grunts have blue, and hinters have orange.
A lot of orange.

My edition of Team Fortress 2 is stuck in low - violence mode. I'm getting kinda bored of watching engineers blow up into tricycles all the time.
