I got owned by that background and now have it downloading on steam :/

Still it's gotta be better the Modern Warfare 2 on multiplay. Hell tetris multiplay would be better than MW2's multiplay.

hmm, didn't like this review very much. sure i liked the first game better, but i think many improvements have been made in the second, and even yahtzee was a bit harsh.

Also the 'plot holes' he mentioned are filled if you bother listening to the audio diaries. Without listening to the audio diaries in either game you can only grasp a fraction of the story's depth. It seems he only played through the game for the sake of finishing it as quickly as possible, each to their own i suppose, but if he just runs through the game as fast as possible without exploring, utilizing and playing with plasmids or dealing with the sisters (which is practically half the game), then he isn't making any effort to enjoy it. Almost as if he doesn't think a sequel deserves his fullest attention.

The video gives me the feeling he made the dante's inferno review last wednesday, slept till tuesday, then woke up and said 'crap! bioshock review's supposed to be done tomorrow!" so he hurriedly played through the game on tuesday, made the review wednesday then released it late, on thursday.

Good call. It's another shite sequel with a crap story developed only to squeeze more cash out of a franchise that probably should have ended with the first game. I'm so sick of playing sequels man...

I hope the big damn advertisments that surround the video aren't going to be a regular thing... It's really annoying.

I think you hit the nail right on the head here yahtzee. but the whole being a big daddy thing i liked. i think the story was OK but they finnaly managed to make a character i cared about eleanor. Also what is wrong with the adoption system? its a chance to earn extra adam.(plus we finnaly get to use the cool trap bolts that we pretty much never used in the first one)

Once again Yahtzee, you have captured my sentiments precisely. Bravo, and keep up the excellence.

Wow, really fantastic episodes. Your brutality is back, with a hilarious vengeance.
The initial comment about BS2 being akin to playing as a turret in HL2 got a big LOL from me.

Mostly I'm really happy about all the points you made about Bioshock-the-first being a completely self-contained storyline not needing any further exposition, since everything was wrapped up in a neat little package at the end. I was making this point nearly everywhere I went as soon as I heard there would be a sequel.
Glad the original 'shock development team didn't feel like whoring themselves out to work on this coattail-riding nonsense. On to bigger and better things I hope.

Yeah that was absurd. You can nullify it by watching the video full-screen, though I'm sure they will figure out a way to prevent even that soon enough... bleh

Soon they will no doubt be splicing in fraction of a second bits of ad to every video we watch.

I'm already completely annoyed that the entire background of the site changes to match every new big game release (I've seen this on other sites such as GT too).
What, the 50 bagillion banner ads and in-video pop ups weren't enough???

Not to mention I'm being assaulted non-stop by infantile GameStop ads every time I turn on my TV.

Yeah, a new game is out. I GET IT! Shut the fuck up with ads already. The way to sell more games isn't by annoying people to death.

I haven't played Bioshock 2 yet. I guess I can't say I'm surprised by Yahtzee's verdict. Still, I can't believe I hadn't heard from anyone else in any other review mention having to defend little sisters from splicers if you want the good ending. How lame.
Technically speaking you could in theory take your little sis straight to her vent and kill/set her free and you will still get some ADAM but if you want max possible ADAM then good or evil you still need to take them harvesting. Each little sister can harvest up to 2 corpses but only a few specific corpses are harvestable so you cant just shove your drill into the head of the nearest splicer and tell her to eat up.

One error in the review and also in the games suggestion is that big sisters have a chance to show up with every little sister I found that they only/always showed up just after killing/freeing the final sister on each level.

Also if you are interested in good/evil endings your treatment of the little sisters is only half the requirement and another factor also influences how the game turns out.

Sorry if I got a bit wordy but I felt it worht saying

I really wanted the option to adopt a single little sister for the entire game for increased returns. That would have been great. At first she sucks for some science related reason at her job, so she gathers 10 adam per corpse. But eventually, at the end, she gathers more than 90 per pop.

BACK ON TOPIC, great review. Indeed, Adam has turned into a sort of plot cure-all.

Didn't even like the first one, stupidly clunky and boring generic FPS. The only cool part was the atmosphere, but that's not enough to enjoy a game.

I will rock as a vendor machine! Chocolate bars, potato chips. I will have it all.
Even alcohol. I can't wait for Bioshock 3.

Great review, agree completely. Luckily I rented this and Dante's Inferno - both meh and was glad to return them. Now just looking forward to God of War 3.

By the way Yahtzee, any chance of you reviewing that QTE aka Heavy Rain?

He didn't criticize any aspect of the game that requires skill so...

Usually 'You just suck' is viable. For example, Demon's Souls. Here? Not so much.

I always wondered who that generic, bored looking bloke is he constantly uses in his reviews...

But yeah... Bioshock was a game which was meant to have no sequel but 2k decided to piddle all over that. Which is a shame since I liked the first game a lot and I can barely enjoy the second game... Eh, I'll just play it through once and then toss it aside I guess. At least I only rented the game, so it's not that bad.

Yes, the story/characters in BioShock 2 are terrible. BioShock 1 is a helluva lot more *interesting*, but I had more fun playing 2. And that's ultimately why I play games, so I was happy enough with it. Hopefully the inevitable threequel will have a better balance between story and gameplay; BioShock 1 was tipped too far in favour of story at the expense of gameplay and vice versa for BioShock 2.
