Playing a final fantasy game for 5 hours and saying that you don't understand the story as yet is like watching the god father for 5 minutes and complaining about the story not making sense..literally.
Surely five hours is a bit long to keep players in the dark? You are arguing in FFIIX's favor with that point.

I'm glad I stopped caring for the series after the horrid butchery they gave to Ivalice in FFXII. Square really needs to move on from this series and start doing other things.

Not all JRPGs are bad, but he makes a few valid points. The biggest being the gameplay/story segregation and the large amounts of cutscene. I have played some terrible JRPGs and some good ones (Shin Megami Tensai: Devil Survivor was quite enjoyable). But, ultimately we often don't come here for reviews, we come here to see him eviscerate a game, and I think on some level Yahtzee knows this. He's going to tend to be a bit more vitriolic, a bit more over the top specifically because he knows that that's what people are watching for. We aren't really watching for praise or true reviews (Or if we are it's a matter of 'ok, what are the games weaknesses and/or WHY does he dislike it') so much as we want to see him tear a game apart.

I thought that this review was okay,
but like always I don't like it when he picks on games I like :)
becuase then I start to notice their flaws and like them less.

you actually believe playing this shit on a different console will matter? dude my friend got this on his PS3 and I gave up on it a lot faster (too bizarre for me). the story was intriguing, but the characters were annoying as hell, i find it weird the only guy i liked was the "comic relief" with a chocobo stuck inside his fro

After about 2 hours into the game i understood the central element, "Pulse Fal'Cie are assholes that need to be destroyed." It's so funny that the average person that plays RPGS like this minds are so thick that they need everything to be spelled out for them. There are people who have played through final fantasy 13 that complains that Lightning has a really stupid name.

"But lighting is a stupid name for a character." Even though the story goes on to explain that her name is actually Claire and she herself thinks that giving her self the name "lighting" was a pretty stupid idea.

Snow was stupid. My friend Tim RL is stupid. I don't understand where everybody gets this, "Every character must be 100% perfect and likable!" story from in games. That will never happen. I think that it is rather amazing that simply 5 hours into the game you are able to give each character a personality profile. I find it even more amazing that the character personality profile constantly fully evolves through the whole game.

Hope is a subject of many, "Oh he's angst lol!" statements. However by the end of the game Hope is more level headed than most of the team because he learned on his journey that people don't like whiny assholes.

Let me go on record as saying, I don't give a rats ass about nostalgia. Super metroid > Final fantasy 6 on many levels. Final fantasy 7 was a slightly above average game to me. Final fantasy 8 has a special place in my heart because it was the first 3D final fantasy that i have played, however in retrospect it is one of the worst in the series.

Most of the people that hates final fantasy X-2, and claim that they have played final fantasy X-2 have actually never played X-2 because for some odd reason they see the game as being about dancing and singing because of the intro 5 minutes into the game.

People just hate final fantasy games because of the title "Final Fantasy." One of the only reason why most review sites gave final fantasy XIII lower than their (People like this game so lets mark it high) mark is because everybody agreed on a central flaw (the game was very linear) but many people fail to mention the fact that the game is actually less linear than final fantasy X. Final fantasy X does not become open ended until you get the air ship. Final fantasy X is a 40 hour game. You get the Airship 36 hours into playing the game.

I knew this guy that knew this guy, that knew this guy that knew this guy, that knew this guy that knew this guy, that knew this guy's cousin that said Final fantasy 13 sucks. So i agree with you, especially because i hate final fantasy 13 and it is perfectly fine to judge a game based on a scale which does not apply to the game.

If you're going to play roughly 3% of a game and give a horrifically awful review full of invalid points, whining, bitching and hate speech; I suggest you don't freaking review it. Especially, when you have no interest in the actual content and base everything on personal biases. I'm glad you succeeded in pandering to your easily amused fanboys. But I, personally, have long grown sick of ZP and I'm pretty much done watching it. I can find much more amusing ways to have my intelligence insulted and they're all on Comedy Central.
I am with you and this an all but...if you do not view ZP anymore, why are you even bothering to post on this forums?

I personally love the guy, i just think he's simply being an asshole and giving it a poor ( relatively in terms of content, not ratings) simply because he was too busy doing work in order to learn the game.

Never mind in the exact same review he praised combat for being quick and easy in Final fantasy 6 then complained about combat being quick and easy in final fantasy 13.

Never mind that the overall plot for Final fantasy 6 is actually more advanced and takes longer to unfold in final fantasy 6 than in 13, but is easier to understand because it was pretty much mandatory that they tell you exactly what you were going to do back in that day.

I know of no game before the ps1 era whereas the goal was not set for you in plain sight. from start to finish.

It's sad how the most racially stereotypical character was the most likable. Lightning was a total *****, Snow had a serious obsession problem, Vanille couldn't seem to walk two steps without making some sort of absurd squeak or noise, Hope almost made me smash my PS3 every time he was onscreen because that level of faggotry should be illegal, and I didn't play long enough to learn anything about the last chick except that her Australian accent sounded incredibly phony.

"I played it for an hour, set it aside, and proceeded to play Fallout 3."

I've been playing the two together, it's a pretty good contrast. When I'm bored of linearity I play Fallout, when I'm bored of picking up a quest, looking at my map and finding out it's about a 40 minute walk away I play FF :)

Glad this review isn't "controversial" or anything. I mean it would be pretty bad if people got this worked up over a review meant to be funny ( Also its kinda unreasonable to think he is gonna finish a 60+ hour game and put out a review, even more so on a series he dislikes).

These were my thoughts after watching this review:

I understand you're busy with your manabar, but at least play the whole game, sheesh....if I were getting paid to play games, and then pick apart the minutia I didn't like for a living I'd be able to manage making it through to the end of the game for godsakes! I mean seriously it's only game - stretch it out over a few weeks if you feel the need to review it, and you can't manage the 40 hours (a regular work week for most the rest of us slack-jawed-gamers) in one week...

I found the review of the first 5 hours pretty good though, but seriously reviewing a game on just over 10% of it's content is pretty weak. I understand ZP isn't a true review of the game, but this was still a pretty weak showing.

--- To those of you who don't agree that's fine. It just doesn't make sense to me. Think about it.

i hope he reviews god of war 3 next
I'm surprised he didn't do that first, and then actually finish FF13.

I guess it's more edgy to not finish a game first though...
