Yahtzee needs to stop pissing off us nerdy types and review Space Marine.
I'd like to see what he thinks of non cover based 3rd person shooting without regenerating health, good close combat action, more than 2 weapons, no shifty vehicle section, no out of place romance, a clear goal and story structure and a jetpack.

He'd probably think it was trying too hard come to think of it...

He already said way back when that he doesn't like it, nor does he like 40k. Trying to get him to review it is an exercise in futility.

I never really thought much about the cover-based mechanic. Although I did like Gears of War for a couple of things;
1. Active reload, so having to press a button to reload had more of a point rather than making it automatic.
2. The Roadie run. That seemed new to me
3. I thought the pacing was good, a mix of tutorial, survival sections, boomers, that she-beast and the hand of god. That stupid UV bat light tank section and those exploding dog things.
4. Most importantly it was the first proper online co-op campaign shooter I'd ever played with a friend. All other attempts had proved too frustrating or broken.

Never understood what was going on with the Locust either. Humans were somehow on the planet, not Earth. The locust attacked on Emergence Day, for some reason. It seem suggested in Gears of War 2 that it was because they were being invaded by other Locust infected by gold oil...?!?

Was going to make some clever comment about some other game that did cover-based shooting first, probably even before Kill Switch.

Googled it. The game was Kill Switch.

I would eat your ass, but I don't know which cheek to start with... :p

Other than that, instead of a HD remake showing the next-gen how it's done, this was a HD remake showing what shouldn't have started trend-wise... Then again, a stealth-based Gears of War sounds almost too good to be an actual idea, though...

Considering the character proportions in GoW (seriously, next time you play it - if ever - pay attention whenever Marcus has to speak to someone on the com...his index finger is wider than his entire ear) I'm pretty certain that a stealth-based GoW game would be absolutely, hilariously improbable. It'd be like playing a refrigerator sneaking up on the washer and dryer.

I'd play that.
You know what? Even as I was clicking the "Post" button, I was thinking to myself: "That...actually could be a fun game."

Don't think I'd want a GoW stealth game, but a game where you play as a large home appliance trying to assassinate the other home appliances could be neat. :p

Well maybe back in the days he and Epic made Jazz Jackrabbit, Cliff was worth defending but not here and now damnit! GoW is crap. And when I'm forced to say about something that has chainsaws and John DiMaggio in the same place, something is fundamentally wrong here.
I hate to break it to you but Jazz Jackrabbit doesn't survive retrospective either. If you go back and play it, you'll realize that it was a terrible rip-off of sonic that didn't understand the timing of when sonic games had the screen lag behind the player. If you actually try playing at the speed the game indicates you should, your character will never be on-screen.

So, Yahtzee's on holiday next week? In the old days, a week without ZP would have been a real shame, but now I'm more upset we'll have to go a week without Let's Drown Out. The Dark Souls 2 playthrough has been going up in my eye ever since Gabriel got gud.

Nice review, kind of wanted to give Gears a go seeing as I've seen others play it, but never got into it myself. Will give it a miss now I think. Until Dawn next?

I, meanwhile, have seen a side-by-side comparison of the two versions of Gears of War and it's not pretty. The remake looks noticeably worse, as in it literally looks like the old one is the remake.

So naturally I couldn't find it when I tried to hunt it down and repost it.

Have a good holiday, Yahtzee. It's important to get away from work for a good complete recharge from time to time. Five years is a pretty long time to go without it. Especially in Australia, don't their labor laws allot for a very generous amount of vacation time?

Oh, and more in line with the topic of the video, even Zero Punctuation can't get away from these HD re-releases anymore. How bleak.

He has sort of reviewed it, but only in an extra punctuation. Here's the link:

Stealth based cover shooter? I sure do love me some Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It's not exactly the size of a fridge, but I wouldn't be surprised if Adam has a beer cooler in there somewhere.

You can carry a fridge around, and then when spotted, drop the fridge and hide behind it. XD
