God my favourite bit of this video was the ending trailers. Just because I can imagine Yahtzee sitting there grinding his teeth to a fine paste wanting to kill the escapist crew for tacking such utter shit to his videos.
I mean that damn Ninja Gaiden game looks to be exactly the thing that he would play for 20 minutes then spend the rest of the week struggling to adequately describe just how utterly shit it is and how anyone who enjoys it has to have a IQ lower then a radish.
Also cmon, we have seen that damn unforgotten realms video a few times now. At least put new shit in. -.-;;;
I LOVE NG2 so bite me...

Does anyone know HOW Yahtzee likes to see story portrayed in games? He always seems to complain about story based games yet at the same time he seems to be an advocate of them... I'm getting really confused here.
Play his games and you get a pretty good window into his head. There are like 5 or 6, I only went through the ones he himself recommends on his site. I'm surprised more people don't dig through his stuff when they keep talking about him so much.

Perhaps not, but the newspaper or magazine running said critic's articles runs ads right alongside them. There are commercials during Ebert & Roper (or whatever it's called these days). Not sure what to say about the donkey, really...that one has me a bit nonplussed.
I think they're going to resurrect Siskel and turn him into a zombie this Fall. Zombie Siskel & Ebert...now airing at 8 p- Braaaaaains!!!!

I don't really have an objection to the ads, people need to make money, The Escapist included, and they've added them to the END of the video, not the beginning, so you don't need to watch them.

If this was the 14th century Yahtzee would be heralded as a god!

I concur whole heartedly that the spiel scripting of MGS4 would not pass an A-level grade let alone be passed across a publishing desk. The whole game is an exercise in frustration and molly codling.

Thank god some reviewer had the ****s to mention the bad parts of this gam instead of selling out to Konami and shuting their eyes to the bad parts like all the other reviewers, though he didn't mention the bad load times, all the same thank you Yahtzee for being the most original and truthfull reviewer out there and going against the massive evil that is MGS4 and its fan base.
Not that I don't like the game I just hate it getting perfect reviews when it should be an 8/10 at best.

Words, words, words, I'm so sick of words
I get words all day through
First from him, now from you
Is that all you blighters can do
Don't talk of stars burning above
If you're in love show me
Tell me no dreams filled with desire
If you're on fire show me
Here we are together in the middle of the night
Don't talk of spring, just hold me tight
Anyone who's ever been in love'll tell you that
This is no time for a chat

Wow, over 500 comments in half an hour?
Anyway, MGS4 is one of the few games the only game that PS3 owners can brag about effectively to me. Looks like it has it's flaws but I admit that I would actually want to buy it if I had a PS3. Yahtzee rips apart anything in sight so I guess I don't really know if this game is really any good based on this review. The problem is that other reviews just totally kiss MGS4's ass.
On the topic of ads, I think that when the video is over we should get a separate video of ads. This ZP is 7 minutes long and half of that is just ads - kinda misleading. Also, why is the escapist advertising itself? We're already watching their videos!

Wow looks like its gonna be another 1000 threader. What I find funny is that yahtzee's points are always correct they just don't annoy other people. Thats why I think he is a great reviewer he tells us the points about it and allows us to make our own decision.

While discerning folks like yourself come here and enjoy everything The Escapist has to offer, some simply watch ZP when it's embedded on another site. We just want folks to know that we have other content they might enjoy watching, thus the trailers for the other shows.

I liked it greatly, I always love the way Yahtzee isn't afraid to bash a game the general public might like.

I only wish I had something more to add, maby next time.

Heh, I find it great how the post-MGS-review-forum-extravaganza seems to be going in the same direction as the SSBB one. I wonder what other games could also garner such attention and well-drawn battle-lines.

Kay gang, keep 'dem flames nice an' hot, maybe we can cap 1K posts like last time!

(Oh, and bonus points for the anti-Yahtzee ad-hominem. Funny how people seem to find he?s getting lame just around the time he reviews big-name games. I?m certain if his next review is Harvest Moon DS or somesuch crap it will be LOLs again! Just like that! For no other reason! /sarcasm)

but his points in this review were 99% shallow and 98&% uninteresting with a 2% margin for error. can't all you fans just accept that?

I really love the MGS series, but I agree about the poor writing in the franchise. Kojima has developed a very intricate and encyclopedic back-story that is quite remarkable, but he seems to completely disregard the phrase ?action speaks louder than words?. His direction of the camera is nothing less than impressive but the content is bloated with endless exposition, contradictions and deus ex machinas. Plus, why the fuck does every character have to repeat themselves in a slightly altered way, in another idiom, with a different turn of phrase? .... Yes ?war is bad!? I heard you the first time! I actually do like the cut scenes, some are exhilarating and others are surprisingly emotional. But it is saying a lot if Wikipedia can explain the story more clearly than the game itself.

Bah, actions don't speak louder than words, they just satisfy the impatient. He puts out the information that people need. This is like saying the Silmarillion is bad writing because its too dry for some people to follow. Its not bad writing, its the reader/watcher being unable or unwilling to follow it and just wanting punchy action. Still waters run deep after all.

I disagree a bit with the action clunkiness he talks about, as I quite like the control system in this game. However, everything else I wholeheartedly agree with, how often did any of you use the drum can or box? Totally unnecessary what with octocamo and whatnot (which as he said, could be totally unnecessary with the tranq gun and whatnot). And while I am a huge Metal Gear fanboy, on my first play through the game I kept thinking, "Damn, there's not much game here...take 10 steps, cutscene, 10 more, another cutscene, the cutscene to gameplay ratio is ridiculous!" And on subsequent playthroughs, I picked out the things that I think should have been left out entirely. The story didn't even fascinate me that much, I just thought "Finally we get an explanation for all the bullshit in MGS2." All that being said, I still love the game, and I love MGO, but all in all I think I preferred MGS3.

And normally I think Yahtzee is just a prick who feels the need to hate on games simply because it's the in thing to do, and you Yahtzee fanboys like it because you think it's new and different and hip, when in fact it's tired and old, but this time I think he hit the nail on the head pretty well.

But they do when they add something, and what most people don't seem to get is that with stories like the ones in MGS series you NEED that extra story. he covered all his bases and gave us lots of data to mull over. I think its just a matter of people shutting out how good it is because of volume as they always do.
