To be fair, a lot of people are expected to put in more work before their vacations. It's fairly standard now in the US in any sort of salaried job (Ie not cashiering at Wal-Mart or the grocery store). Not sure about other countries, but they tend to be less screwed up than us (at least in the industrial world).

Not endorsing, just explaining.

Might as well not have that really, last time he did one of those mashups or whatever it was people were SO angry X3. Getting all rude and offended that he thought he needed to give us some "previously, on ZP" video instead of just taking his time off...

People are strange.
Well, look at the reviews. People are like "do Yahtzee!" Then when he trashes it like every other game, people are like "Why are you so mean to ?"

People will always slam you on both sides.

Me, I'd watch the clip show, it doesn't bother me, but I don't really care that there's nothing, either.
Those people annoy me X3. I know what I like, they should too. I think Yahtzee said that too, that if you can't handle that someone calls your games bad then maybe your living a lie and they are not as good as you have lead yourself to believe? X3

The reason it strikes me weird that there's a lack of ZP this week is that there's also a lack of Feed Dump and Extra Punctuation/LoadingReadyRun updated extremely late compared to their normal times, while Critical Miss, Jimquisition, The Big Picture, and Unskippable all updated at their normal times.
Different people have different work/holiday schedules. And ethics.

I don't know why Paul and Graham did Unskippable, but even Checkpoint was a clip show, and that's for another site. It's possible they just do it earlier or whatever, so it was ready beforehand.

It's really weird to see one of their properties up and not others, but still.

Besides, Jim's British. He doesn't celebrate Christmas, so that explains that one.

I think the other moral is "don't poke the bear."

Whoa. Are you serious? America is a screwed up country. I've never heard of anything like this. Well, that's intriguing. I still think you earn your vacation by working the other 51 weeks, and Yahtzee owes us nothing.

I never said he owed me anything...
I think you people took me the wrong way. I wasn't upset or whining...
I was curious. There's always been something before, and last week the same happened. A video was released Friday (my time) rather than the usual Thursday.

Yahtzee has every right to take a week or 2 and do whatever he wants, I was merely asking with vid frequency.

America is definitely screwed up in terms of labour and laws, I agree.

I would probably die if I had to work 51 weeks a year. But where I work I am expected to have my work in order before I go on holidays. I cannot just drop everything and leave (no matter how tempting it is...). If I have things piled up, I have to work extra before my holiday.

But I am definitely not expected to work more just because I have my holidays coming. That is just cruel. Surely that's not what Zachary Amaranth meant...

But Yahtzee would be on Santa's naughty list wouldn't he?

In seriousness I was disappointed as well, he uploaded a column for Extra Punctuation instead of doing a video. His festive season video's are always fun. I missed my ZP this week, look forward to next weeks though

THIS would put Yahtzee on the naughty list? Not everything else?!

Impressive.

Anyway...of course he took a break. He did last year, and wondered why the hell other people weren't.

No, sorry. I tell a lie. He did talk a bit last year. It was the year before. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/1340-Holiday-2009]

I was a little disappointed that there was no clip episode, but it's just building up anticipation to the awards!

I'm really very tired about web people and TV people taking the Christmas week off...just do the episode before Christmas and release it that week. You can still have your vacation, and we don't have to wait. I've been without new Mythbusters for almost a month now, and their production schedule should dictate that episodes are ready at least four weeks before they air.

Anyway, just prepare it ahead of time...is there something wrong with that? You'll notice that the internet doesn't take holidays.
"You can still have your vacation, you just need to do double the work the week before."

Are you serious? Do you work? Would you accept an employer that forced you to work an 80 hour week before the week you took off for vacation because they don't want to have to wait for the stuff they leave on your desk? Really?

This is his job, and he only takes one week vacation all year. This reeks of entitlement. Calm down, breathe deep, and find something else to do this Wednesday.
LOL, do you work? For three years I worked 5AM-11PM Mon-Sat, Sun 10AM-8PM...maybe I'm just not spoiled from the work point of view. This isn't real estate, it's the internet, which doesn't sleep and takes no breaks. If you choose to work in certain industries, you should accept the consequences that go with it.

That being said, there is no reason a web-based entrepreneur would have to work twice as hard for one week before the vacation...you don't actually have to have a current review. He could have put in two hours of work a week for the whole year on a retro review that was ready to go for any reason, not just vacation. Personally, I would think the best business model would be to do that anyway, as you never know when you're going to get in a traffic accident, or get sick, or whatever.

There's no way to get around it, it's just self-entitlement. Someone thinks they deserve something, so they just take it. Were I to have the audience Yahtzee has, I would make damn sure to constantly remember who it was that turned me into a celebrity. Same for NicePeter and EpicLloyd. Notice MovieBob didn't take the week off, and THANK YOU FOR THAT, BOB.

Lastly, please don't say things like, "calm down," "breathe deep," and "find something else to do," that's just infantile. No one is going apoplectic over there not being a 0P this week, nor is anyone without something to do for the entire day, so don't be patronizing. Makes my fur stand on end, and necessitates long ranty responses like this one.

He always gets one week off, every year, around Christmas. Usually he posts some video, but this year he probably did the "fuck it" routine.

Yea! How dare he take a single week off, he should totally work on Christmas just because someone else works harder than him!
