I don't know man, Call of Duty is doing a pretty great job of using Russians as cannon fodder. All we really have to do to fight political correctness is make it clear things like race and nationality are mostly incidental, not integral to their status as an antagonist. We don't need to do crazy things like usurp control, just stick to your guns (not a pun) and rationalize your choices.

Captcha: well read, and your post was an enjoyable and well though out read.

Oh sure, but look at the garbage they got for it, even if it was eclipsed by the "killing civilians" thing. "Mercenaries 2: World In Flames" had the characters pretty much invading Venezuala and that had people from that country freak out as well, even if the game was basically a turd.

I'm not saying people don't do it, or won't try it again, but in general the media is gravitating away from it due to not being willing to deal with the hype, especially with the left wing and it's dogma that doesn't let anyone be singled out or portrayed negatively being so powerful in the media. If say the Russians, Venezualans, or other groups get upset, plenty of people will jump in right besides them.

One technique that used to work a few years ago was to say have games, movies, or books involve a fictional country of a certain variety. Instead of Afghanistan, the story involves WTFistan which just happens to be a surprisingly accurate parallel. In cases like that you see accusations of it being insensitive towards muslims.

While it involves movies (and Muslims in paticular) this is a sign of how far it's gone:

Yes, Aladdin has been under fire as a racist work, and it's been taken seriously enough to get goverment attention, apparently reinforced by a lot of people. If that's an issue, well, you can see how it and similar things effect video games.

We more or less agree, but my point is that I think the issue stands despite some exceptions with people still trying it. Hence the reason why we see Zombies, Aliens, robot uprisings, and similar things so heavily used (as I said originally).

Really, for things to change people need to stop supporting critical media platforms (which might involve some personal political re-assessment) which will cause the media to halt it's attacks without popular support, and let video games, and the media, get back to doing their thing.

Personally read up on Mafia 2

(sample link above, but there are plenty of varying degrees of intensity)

OMG, the Mob is Italian, how horrible to state the obvious. This pretty much demonstrates the entire problem, and how far it goes. I can virtually guarantee anyone considering a similar game right now is walking on eggshells over getting the mafia involved... it might still happen, but this is exactly the kind of point of view that shouldn't be given a platform at all.
