Zombie Apocalypse RPG 2.0 (New characters always welcome)

Then have a quick look at my name...

OOC: Oh. Well, that means one of two things. Either, you get an RPG that was inadvertently named after you, or I can change the name back to it's old name. Your decision, I guess.

OOC: Lately, I've been using a lot of understoods(instances where I'm not controlling anyone's characters, but characters I currently control are making them do stuff). This is because I'm just advancing the story. Once we get to any point where we're shacked up in a casino or wherever, I'll cut down on the understoods.

Vinny stomps on the accelerator once the two leave his car. The car speeds down the street, but suddenly stops when it comes up to a not-so-zombified looking guy with a mean shotgun in his hands. Vinny rolls down the window and asks "Are you still alive?"

Steve had just made it to the door of the gun shop when it hit. Steve was brushed aside by the beast, it's cold clammy hands, like deaths cold touch, reaching towards him. Steve reloaded his weapon, he needed to be fast. Barely pushing the bullets into the magazine, Steve lifted the gun.

BANG

Short work. Steve loved his guns big and powerful, just for a situation like that. Steve gave a cold sneer as he looked upon the dead zombie, it's oozing flesh and decomposing blood dripping onto his shoes.

"Fuck."

Steve casually wiped the mess onto the dead zombies shirt, he hated these things. Steve looked at the gun shop, taking a clear look inside the door. He thought he could make something out as moving on the inside, but he wasn't sure.

Summing up his courage, Steve smashed the glass of the door just around the handle, reaching to unlock it from the inside. Just then, Steve heard the alarm.

WOOP! WOOP!

"Oh it just keeps getting better and better!" Steve yelled in indignation.

Clutching his hand cannon, Steve quickly unlocked the door of the shop, if the undead were coming, he was gonna shoot them down. Quickly rifling through the cabinets of the store, Steve found what he was looking for.

Quickly grabbing a carton of shells, Steve shuffled several rounds into the shotgun. He held it up to the open doorway, and waited for the inevitable......

BANG! BANG!

I'm alive, that much is for sure. It's been hell these last few weeks, locked in the hotel room. I've almost run out of food, and am planning to make a run to the grocery store. I'm not sure if I'm gonna make it...There's a pretty big steak knife I'm taking with me, but I don't know if it will be any good. I think I could stab a zombie if I had to, but what if they charged at me like that man in the street a couple days back. HE DIDN'T MAKE IT, I should probably stay safe, and not make an escape.

I'm hungry, almost too hungry to go on, I need to get out of my hotel room, or I'm not going to survive. I'm leaving today. I'm leaving now. The reason I'm writing this is so people can see who I was, and what I have done. I'm a survivor, and people will know....I'm sure of it. I'm going to make a run for it, goodbye.

I made it! I've gotten out of my hotel room! There's food and water here to last several days, and I'm gonna survive! Unfortunately I still have a long way to go to the grocery store, which is my final goal. I hate to admit it, but I only got as far as my neighbors flat across the hall. When I was in the hall, I could swear I heard a zombie, so I just ran inside, I think there's nothing in here but me. Still though, to be safe I'm gonna stay the next five days here, and check to see if there are any zombies, I'm sure there's at least one here.

Not receiving a response, Vinny figures the guy must be a zombie and continues on his way. They eventually come to the back entrance of a grocery store. "You two wait here." Vinny says as he gets out. He kicks the door down and finds himself in darkened hallways. He eventually pushes through some doors and ends up in the grocery store proper. There are a few dead bodies lying around, and Vinny hears the distinctive shuffling of zombies. He bends over the body of the dead manager and takes his keys, wallet, and wadded up piece of paper in his back pocket. Vinny leaves with his ill-gotten goods and rounds up Liz and Jack.

"Everyone, grab a cart and fill it up." After loading three carts with goods, they leave and load the car. "Guys, we're gonna be going to pick up Terrence, Craig, and Steve, but we'll be back here to stock up on whatever we need. It turns out this place is attached to a mall, and I found this map [http://majls.net/temp/dead_rising_mall_map.jpg] we could use. We're at Seon's now. That's at the top-left corner of the map. We really need to use sporting goods shops and things like that if we're gonna leave the city." Vinny addresses. "Okay" Liz replies. They hop back into the car, Vinny in the driver's seat, Jack in the passenger seat, and Liz in the second row of seats. As Vinny is driving, Jack gets out a picture of him and a woman in a white dress. "Alice." Jack whispers. He pulls out his shotgun. "What's he doing?" Liz asks. "He's probably just gonna shoot some zombies out the window, right Jack?" Not receiving a response, Vinny drops the question and continues driving. The gun shop is in sight. Jack whispers "I'm coming Alice." He puts the shotgun barrel in his mouth. And pulls the trigger.

In his rush to stop Jack, Vinny's right arm swipes in a failed attempt to stop Jack. Unfortunately, his left hand makes the same motion as his right hand, and that hand is on the wheel. The car violently swerves out of the lane. The sharp turn causes the SUV to flip over and smash into the front of the gun shop, going right through the storefront. Vinny crawls out of the fiery wreckage, with Liz right behind him. Unhurt, they're both thinking the same thing. Good thing I was wearing my seatbelt.

OOC: I killed off Jack because (as stated many times before) his owner resigned and nobody claimed him after a period of three days.

OOC: Don't get me wrong, I love this thread; I think it's a shining Corusca gem in a sea of filth and sludge. But it's just moving a bit too slowly. Might I recommend PMing a few friends of yours that might be persuaded to join this RP? I'll do the same.


Also, with your post earlier regarding your character regarding the man in front of the gun store....was that Malachi?

OOC: Yeah it was, but I was gonna knock off Jack and crash the car and I wasn't sure if you were gonna respond before the deadline. I figured we would meet in the gun shop, and that's what we're about to do in this next post. Also, I just crashed my car into the gun shop. Apparently Malachi hasn't noticed.

Vinny surveys the flaming wreckage of his Durango. He's only got a few cuts and bruises, but the car is totaled. They're not leaving the city. Then he remembers the manager's keys. He's gotta have a car at the mall, even if it's far away. "Where's Steve?" he asks. Liz is too shell-shocked to answer. He hears, over the roaring of the flames, some noise coming from the back room that has a door that empties out into an alleyway. "Stay here." Vinny says. He drags his Attache case out of one of the shattered windows of the car and gets out his custom shotgun. Loading it with some shells from a display, Vinny admires his fine weapon. He kicks down the door and aims it at the head of the would-be customer. He recognizes the man. "Are you the guy we passed by in the street?"

OOC: The guy in the backroom is Malachi.

Malachi cocks his head. "Not sure. I don't see many survivors, and when I do, remembering their faces is difficult." He shakes Vinny's hand. "My name's Malachi. I came here to Las Vegas chasing some sort of transmission coming from the heart of the city."

He hears noise coming from the outside and turns around. "S***, they've found us. Quick, let's reinforce the barricade. We'll have time to talk later."

He grabs an especially expensive and powerful-looking semiautomatic compact machine gun off the gun racks and heads towards the front of the shop, using ladders and other heavy objects to build a barrier between him and the zombies.

Steve couldn't believe it, the zombies just kept coming!

"Son of a *****." BANG! "SON OF A *****!" BANG!

Steve reloaded again and again, occasionally shoving the zombies aside and hitting them square in the face with the butt of the gun. At this rate, he'd run out of ammo, and pretty soon, the gun shop might as well. Steve swore as he smashed another zombie backwards with an incredible swing. The zombies flew back.

SCREECH!

Just then, Steve heard what he could have sworn was a Delgado truck. Vinny and the others had made it! Steve knew he needed to get the zombies away from the gun shop, he needed to buy time. Taking a carton of shells, standing on top of a stool, and leaping into the air, Steve cleared the zombies horde, and began drawing them away with gunfire, and a hail of empty shells hit the floor.

Steve ran, the zombies pursued, and he led them around the plaza fountain and beyond, keeping an eye on his companions who headed for the gun shop, too many were missing. Once the others were inside, Steve rounded his way back to the shop, with the horde in hot pursuit.

Steve neared the door of the shop, Vinny was just leaving, Steve jumped, tackled Vinny into the store, and yelled:

"Close it quick!!! CLOSE THE DOOR!"

The door was closed. Steve looked around the room, Jack was missing.

"What the hell happened to you guys?"
Steve yelled over the moans of the horde.

Malachi continues to reinforce the barricade, grabbing his semiautomatic machine gun and aiming it at the approaching horde.]

"Jack killed himself! He blew his brains out and crashed the car!" Vinny yells over the roar of the flames as a response to Steve. Quickly reaching over, Vinny grabs a fire extinguisher off the wall and puts it to good use, dousing the flames from the wrecked car with chemicals. It turns out, they took out half of the storefront, knocking out the main advertisements and displays, but sparing the door itself, which is to the right of the store window with the displays. More good news comes in the form of electricity. The lights crackle to life, along with a T.V. behind the front desk. Vinny remembers watching that documentary (Life After People)again. The power had gone out as a result of a clog in a pipeline in Hoover Dam. He remembers that the rest of the world would lose power in 6 hours, but Las Vegas would stay powered up for as long as a year thanks to Hoover Dam. It turns out that the news really isn't that good, because the neon lights that advertise the gun shop are attracting more zombies. "Liz, go through the T.V. channels and try to find something. Everyone else, work on the barricade. I'm gonna go to the circuit box out back and try to turn off the lights outside." Vinny commands.

OOC: Sorry for the double post, thought I had to go.

Vinny surveys the scene: Liz flips through the channels, but they're all on standby; The men frantically put the barricade together; and Jack's body slips free of it's seat belt, hitting the roof of the overturned Durango. Vinny remembers that he has a job to do and heads into the hallway to the right of the counter.

The hallway has three doors: One that connects to the main store; one to the left, marked Manager's Office; and one that leads out to the alleyway. All of them are wooden with frosted windows on the top half of the doors. Vinny opens the fuse box, which is located right next to the alleyway door. There's many unmarked switches inside. Vinny experimentally flips one, and that turns the light on in the hallway. Turning the old one off, he hits the next one. This activates the light in the alleyway, though it's flickering. To Vinny's horror, this reveals a pack of zombies who have been wildly agitated by the lights. The flickering light causes the zombies to start slamming into the door wildly. Vinny starts randomly flicking switches on and off, causing the zombies to go bat-shit insane. The window shatters, and zombies start climbing over. Vinny quickly turns off all of the switches and backs against the door to the main store. He opens fire on the crowd, but it doesn't cease. A particularly heavy zombie climbing over the window causes the door to collapse under it's weight, allowing the zombies to surge forward.

Vinny frantically reloads his shotgun. As he does this, the manager's office opens. Apparently, the zombies on the other side of the door had gotten lucky and managed to turn the knob enough to open the door. The manager and his wife are on the other side. The manager grabs a hold of Vinny, and the ensuing struggle allows the crowd to get extremely close. Vinny shoves the zombie away and goes back into the main store, locking the hallway door behind him.

"Guys, we have a problem." Vinny announces, though nobody hears. (Liz is still watching T.V., and who knows what everyone else is doing) The zombie crowd shoves against the door, straining it against it's hinges. "Guys, we have a problem!" Vinny shouts louder. Another shove sends Vinny forward into the store. The door is ripped free of it's hinges and falls against the floor. The crowd of zombies flows into the store. Most of the crowd goes toward the barricade, but some zombies go behind the counter to get Liz. One zombie tackles Liz and they land out of sight behind the desk. "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!" she screams. Vinny dodges the crowd and jumps over the counter. The zombie is on top of her and is biting for her neck. Vinny grabs the zed by the collar and shoves him into the crowd. Vinny grabs Liz's hand and pulls her over the counter. The two make their way toward the barricade.

To Vinny's horror(again), a zombie has been nibbling on Jack, turning him into a zombie. Obviously, nobody had thought to barricade the broken windows on the overturned car. Zombies are crawling through the car and into the shop, forcing the survivors between zombie crowds. "Damn, damn damn!" Vinny shouts as the crowd gets ever closer and he unloads round after round.

OOC: I thought the story was going along too perfectly, so I'm throwing as many wrenches in as possible.

I spotted the ladder,oh that beautiful ladder,we are going to live,
"Everyone up that ladder,I'll cover you!"I shoved a Z backwards into the crowd.
I spotted the pistols,all those beautiful pistols,I smashed through the glass,the Z's were recovering,I picked the shiny one and grabbed some 9mms.I was reloading while running towards the ladder,I'd finished reloading by the time I got there ,I emptied the clip into the advancing hoarde.I couldn't spot any more survivors and climbed the ladder.I hoped everyone was safe.

Malachi starts picking off zombies with his machine gun, backing away and pausing only to reload or dodge a zombie's frenzied attacks. "There are too many of them here! Quick, out through the back, before they discover it! I've got a solar-powered taxi half a block away- grab everything in here you can carry and FOLLOW ME!"

He bounds towards the back door, opening it to reveal a small scrapyard mercifully free of zombies. He grabs more guns and ammo from inside, and beckons to the survivors. "Quickly!"

Vinny expertly disassembles his shotgun and puts it in it's place in the Attache case. He straps two hunting rifles to his back and arms himself with an MP5. He is then presented with a problem. Malachi is running out of the back door, but Craig is going up a ladder into an open ceiling hatch. Vinny decides it would be safer to go with Malachi, and runs after him. Out of the corner of his eye, Vinny sees Liz ascending the ladder. He can't change his mind though, because zombies are clogging up the doorway. Vinny breathlessly follows Malachi through the alleyways. Finally, they come up on a taxi cab with solar panels. Vinny throws the door open and a shape leaps out from the darkness. It's too small to be a person, but too big to be a rodent. A dog? The animal pounces on Vinny, pushing him to the ground. "Get it off!" he shouts.

All roads going in and out of the city have been completely covered over with half a foot (6 inches) of sand. It would be foolhardy to try to escape in anything that isn't a plane, helicopter, Land Rover, or jeep. There will be intermittent power outages throughout the city due to untended clogs in the pipes at Hoover Dam, though power will not be completely lost for as long as a year. Also, the crows are out. Crows and other carcass eaters have been eating infected meat. Thus, making zombie birds that are extremely aggressive and peck at you. Being pecked does turn you into a zombie. Since it has only been two weeks, you won't be attacked by crows at night since they still nest. Venturing out in daytime will present you with single birds and the occasional small flock. Venturing out at dawn and dusk is not recommended, as the city suddenly becomes populated by crows in the twilight hours. Still, no sandstorms or tornadoes have been spotted, so that's a plus.
