Anyway, I suppose it was mostly me over analyzing things, but isn't that how the zombie movies start?

Also zombies are in fact real. Voodoo priest's can concoct a potion that can cause a victim to fall into a coma that appears so like death it can result in them being declared such and being buried. If the priest so wishes they can dig them up and revive them. The victim will have suffered some brain damage due to using up the oxygen in their coffin and as such are more susceptible to manipulation.
