Of course, that's assuming we're working in the universe where zombies do die off eventually from lack of food.
They would rot before they ever died of hunger... they're dead so their organs wouldn't process nutrients from the food they eat.

If you're thinking of 28 Days Later remember, those were infected but still living humans that forgot they needed food because of the infection.

Don't get into the argument of how they'd still be able to walk around without nutrients sustaining their muscles and such because well, they're fictional monsters.

To my knowledge, zombies can't cross water due to their physical incapabilities (rather than mystical protection like in some fantasy). Deep lakes, deep rivers and the open ocean are your friend.
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zombie's CAN go into water, and they will. Even if you left a zombie in the middle of the dead sea, and came back a year later, his brain nor body would decompose, for reasons unknown to us. But if you've read World War Z, you'll know that a large problem came from zombies shuddering along the bottom of the Oshen.
I meant stay on top of the water. Perhaps "Cross water" was a bit of a misnomer. You're meant to stay afloat on something like a boat, not connected the bottom of your chosen water body. Zombies can't *swim* is what I should have said. My bad. Of course you'll need to head back to land eventually to resupply, but for the most part, my advice is sit yourself down on a boat and wait until all the zombies die off.

Of course, that's assuming we're working in the universe where zombies do die off eventually from lack of food.
uhh...I don't think they eat. Considering most of them are missing stomaches.
Then where do they get energy to move from? Barring a mystical force here, I'm not seeing how zombies could move without eating regular meals of sweet tasty human flesh.
Zombies aren't much different from humans. All we are are brains, protected by a complex life support system. We can't live without fuel, Food, Air, Water.

Zombies have brains that keep on functioning even after the organs have been destroyed.

Make sure you're a virgin, over-sexy, hang out with the hot chick [she never dies, shes the tits of the film/game/w.e] and also, be a "lone-wolf" kinda guy. Essentially. Be an arsehole.
That's only going to get you through the first few weeks. You're going to need someone to watch your back, keep look out when your sleeping and help you scavenge.

Zombies aren't your typical scream-laws horror. Virginity does not help. A combination of tough humanity, resourcefulness and ruthlessness are what you need. That and a baseball bat with a few nails through it.

I've learned quite a few things from my enjoyable experiences with zombie games and have now devised my own survival rulebook should the situation ever arise.

The Golden Rule: Head = Dead
2. Zombies don't die instantly from flamethrowers. Lesson learned the hard way.
3. Carry a big stick (or sword, or other effective melee weapon)
4. Shaved head.
5. Tight clothes.
6. A can of Zomb-Eze (Whoever gets this reference wins)

Meh, fine. Wait for them to rot then. I'm cool with that. Just means a few more months/years on the boat than I would otherwise have to spend.

My feeble knowledge of biology is going to betray me here, but we need energy to move, right? That's why we eat food. Even if we don't need it to have functional brains. Without some way to get that energy, wouldn't the zombies simply stop moving?

One of the most terrifying things about them is that they defy our laws as we know them. They are inexplicable and they represent our most primal fear (death). The one true reason: when there is no more room in hell, the dead shall walk the earth.

Depending on the type of zombie. If it's the 'magic undead' theory, then no, they don't need to eat cause it's magic. Whooooo!

If it's the more logical 'reanimating parasite' theory, wherein a parasite leeches onto the brain and controls the host, spreading the infection and manipulating the corpse to gain nutrition, then they're not eating to feed themselves, but rather the parasite.

Seriously now, while I can't agree with 100% of the stuff in the Zombie Survival Guide (check it out if you haven't already) since it's information only pertains to Max Brooks' zombie mythos, I have to say I can't think of a better sort of firearm than a bolt-action or semi-automatic rifle.
A longbow. All the deadliness of a gun, but without the noise. (You obviously weren't reading The ZSG very closely...).

I've read the guide too and Max has many things way out, not least about weapons.

A Longbow must be carried with the string off (to stop damage to the wood and wear on the string). Can barely be used in the rain. Is not overly accurate passed 20m. Is not heavy but is big, especially if trying to get through a small space. Directly contravenes his logic on the no long clothes or grabables, as a zombie could easily get a hold of a bow on your back very easily.

Not only that but they have a long travel time compared to bullets, are hugely effected by wind and tire the user out enormously.

No-one makes bows out of wood nowadays; they are made out of lightweight alloys, and fold up for easy storage.Yeah, sure you wouldn't be able to use it immediately, but I doubt that you'd be able to use a rifle in the same situation for the same reason (it must also be folded up for storage).

The first place i'd colonise when i was back would actually be somewhere like the Isle of Wight, create secure areas...clear the island and have lookout areas on the coasts to watch for submersed Zombies coming back from the water. See any, back on the boat.
I don't know, the isle of wight is a bit too... Hilly for my liking, seems likely that at least one would get on and jump out at you.
I live pretty close to the coast, I expect I could get some place safe to defend myself, although I've always thought that our school could be quite defendable against zombies tough you'd run out of food.

In the case of a zombie outbreak you're either going to:
Die at the start,
Die defending some place,
Hide and hope everything gets cleared up and it either does or,
You die.

I don't see that it's likely you're going to grow old and die peacefully during more or less any situation involving zombies.

How many rifles do you fold up for storage? I disagree with a lot of what Max's says for the simply reason he hasn't thought out wearing a bow or rifle is as bad as a long coat.

Dude I have a wooden bow, which I made on my own. Kinda flimsy though.

I say get a huge amount of supplies and a few mates and go and invade Sealand or some other oil rig by helicopter and then live there :-D
I'd like to see a zombie try climbing the legs of an oil rig :p
