Batman then punched everyone at Zynga because they deserve it and the rest of the DC Universe was too busy laughing at how moronic this lawsuit is.

Nice to see the Escapist community is still bitter over Zynga vs Valve.
While the fanboy rage when Zynga kept knocking out big companies was hilarious, Valve completely steamrolled Zynga so I don't see why Portal fanboys would have a problem with that. Poor BioWare. They could've won that year. Always the bridesmaid.

I'm mixed on this. I did think it was ridiculous, but apparently I didn't read it properly the first time. I think a lot of people are missing the key piece of information I missed the first time I read it. SmallVille is going to be a browser based game. Zynga taking them to court over it is beyond petty, but DC knew exactly what they were doing. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, I don't think they were doing it to confuse Zynga patrons into playing their game since, as far as I can tell, it's not going to be on Facebook and it's clearly based on an existing franchise. They were probably just doing it to be cute.

Really though, this is a silly piece of news. It's bored lawyers, get over it.

All this for a capitalized V?

Someone drop a V for Vendetta picture in this.
V: The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

Evey: So, are you like... a crazy person?

So... Zynga's bitching because DC themselves have a SmallVille, with capitalized V and they haven't come up with a shitty game with that name and get away with it?.

This whole issue smacks of stupidity. I can already see Zynga's next game SueVille, where you compete against your friends in an endless cycle of frivolous litigation until you get bored and Zynga introduces Sueville 2
Your friend has sent you an invite to play Sueville 2!
Your friend's attorney has called you to the stand! Play Sueville 2 and help them win their case!

Nobody is going to confuse the two.

Once you've played one Zynga game, you've played them all.

Also:

"Zynga has spent years on researching and developing innovative and original games. It's very unfortunate when other studios try to leech off our efforts. We must bring an end to these endeavors."

That is the best response. Because it is the only response someone should have.

People seem to forget that these kinds of antics are fairly common and there's absolutely nothing stopping corporations from not doing it- the potential money made from a successful lawsuit far outweighs any losses.

This is stupid like the Bethesda "Scrolls" lawsuit is stupid, but its fairly commonplace.

I have to go with DC on this one. They have been using Smallville for years now, so they should be able to spell (or capitalize)it any way they want. Of course I always tend to side with the defense when it comes to copyright issues, especially frivolous ones.

You know, I hate to say it but I'm with Zynga on this one. There is absolutely no reason at all why DC should decide to capitalise the v in Smallville just because they're making a browser game.

You can dislike Zynga all you want but its blatently obvious they are trying to capatilize on Zyngas goodwill. If you disagree with me then I challange you to give me a single valid reason as to why DC would suddenly want to change how they spell Smallville after so long.
This is the way I see it.

Hey! How dare you capitalize that V, Zynga has spent many millions of dollars and many decades of blood, sweat, and tears to innovate the capital V into it's Ville series! The gripping saga that was started with the epic FarmVille is a bench mark for modern gaming. It's really a god damned shame that other developers aren't as imaginative as the incredible minds populating Zynga headquarters in San Francisco.

So out of sheer curiosity, how many people clicked on the source and realized that the story is fake?

Looking at everything I've read so far, practically nobody.

So...why does Smallville suddenly need an uppercase V? It was never spelled that way in the past. I know how everyone here hates Zynga, but I'm just saying, they're actually in the right here on this one, since all they want DC to do is make the V lowercase again HOW IT SHOULD BE.

They do have a good point with the capital V. And since that's basically the only thing Zynga is asking for, I think that's entirely reasonable. Call the game Smallville and go on your merry way.
