So I went ahead and listened to AG Garland's little peptalk before the 1 year anniversary , and boy was it weak. It was 25mins of him saying "Boy howdy those Jan 6 people got us good, huh? What naughty people they are! Please don't do it again, or we'll be forced to sentence you to community service and backrubs. And I know the American people will be disappointed, but we won't be prosecuting anyone in office, regardless of what they did to help the rioters and there's really nothing we can do to prevent it happening again. Its checkmate, sorry folks."
He actually bragged about how following an event where thousands of people laid siege to the capital, chanting "Hang Mike Pence", hundreds stormed the Capital, officers were beaten and killed and the Capital looted, they have managed to convict a full...50 people! Well fuck me General, at this rate you'll get them all by 2080! That'll show them!

He has been bleeding followers since he started telling people to vaccinate during his recent public speeches (one of the few instances where seeing Trump being booed makes me sad). Ironically, if he had recommended people to wear masks back then, and more people had been wearing masks that day, there would had been fewer easily identified individuals.
Even before this that, he was having trouble filling out stadiums like he used too

While I imagine a lot of his supporters are loud anti-vax/anti-mask/anti-lockdown/whatever. A good number of his supporters are elderly. Even the ones against mandates probably don't want to get sick and will make the personal choice to not attend huge crowded events. So that would leave largely the conspiracy theorists who think it's all a hoax.

Edit: it is fun to watch as trump gets confronted with the fact that nobody ever actually liked Him. They supported him because he said what they already believed. Literally anyone with no morality of their own could have been Donald trump.

Hell has truly frozen over: Trump has chosen to shut the fuck up.

Maybe he realized there really is no way he can possibly improve things. (Not that being unable to improve things has stopped him before.)

The consequences of being and following a biatch-in-a-boxstand.

So I listened to Biden's speech, haven't done Harris's yet. But I liked parts of Biden's speech. He openly called Trump a loser with a bruised ego that wouldn't let him acknowledge his defeat or a peaceful transition of power. and said it multiple times. Good. Great! I am all for the President on primetime in the Capital building reminding Trump he's a loser. And he acknowledged that several members of Congress helped Trump is attempting to overthrow the Government. Great! Fucking finally someone bluntly says it. None of this "will of the people" and "looking for more votes" bullshit. Attempted to overthrow the Government.
This whole abused spouse thinking its their fault mentality Democrats have kept this past year is so exhausting.

Those words were good to hear, but will action follow?

Now that the Democrats are done masturbating for the weekend...

It was a bunch of stupid fuckers having a dumbass riot. I live in the Louisville, KY, area. We have livelier riots after the UK-UofL ball game every year. 40% of the casualties that day were shithead boomers keeling over of heart attacks, for gods sake.

The only thing dumber than the MAGA's, are the people who genuinely believe this clusterfuck was in any way comparable to 9/11 or Pearl Harbor. You don't have to look at the massive disparity in capitol and federal pig response between "the insurrection!" and the George Floyd/Breonna Taylor protests to see that giant cluebat swinging full tilt towards your head.

"Threat to democracy" my ass. This is the threat to "democracy", not...oh, hell, I dunno...

...the failing health care system and continued privatization despite being in the third year of a global pandemic?
...the toxic combination of corporate deregulation, tax breaks, and bailouts that are financially choking the country into third-world kleptocracy?
...seeping privatization of our electoral processes?
...the Snowden revelations?
...Citizens United?
...the forever wars and the massive generational federal debt they've caused?
...policy that can now only be accurately described as climate change accelerationism?
...the contemporary carceral state and eroded civil rights and liberties?
...media privatization, consolidation, and deregulation?
...eroding educational standards and negative social mobility?
...rapidly-failing infrastructure with zero impetus or political will to enact socially or economically sane policies to repair it?
...a Gini coefficient worse than goddamn Haiti's?

Honestly I doubt it, and for one very clear reason. Scope. I think if the American people knew how many sitting members of Congress were in on it, how many state department officials, Pentagon officials, local law enforcement, it would shock us to our core and we wouldn't really be able to recover from it.
Imagine a scenario were a good 1/3rd of GOP Senators are arrested on suspicion of treason and aiding the Jan 6th rioters? Half of the nation would call that a Coup, arresting the opposition party, and would never believe SO MANY politicians would throw Democracy away. I think that's why AG Garland's speech was so weak and milquetoast, because he knows he can't look too much into the events for fear of what they would find. What do you do if the sitting President, with the help of the Secret Service, was planning on kidnapping/assassinating the Vice President? And why Mike Pence reportedly refused to go with his SS detail on Jan 6th, because he didn't trust them.
What happens then? You can't disband the Secret Service or arrest them all. And the right-wing will never stand for Trump arrested; they'd start killing Democrats left and right.

We're kinda like the Star Wars Republic, after Order 66, but the order failed. Not all the clone troopers listened, not all of them were in the right place at the right time, not all the Jedi died. So people are left with a lot of questions as to why certain politicians and officers were acting as if some great big event was supposed to happen.

It's so cute they think he's a political genius who's going to save them, rather than the raging, out-of-control, self-absorbed conman with a serious personality disorder that he is.

So is Ted Cruz just the most pathetic human being on the planet. Bending over backwards to appease a man who insulted his wife and father, blaming his daughters for fleeing his state during a crisis and now begging Tucker Carlson for forgiveness for saying Jan 6th was a terrorist attack, saying he didn't mean it despite saying it several times. Also he is a literal booger eater.

It's not an insult I would personally use but it feels like cuck as an insult was designed specifically for that man.
