I don't ever ever ever ever ever want to see Mass Effect sullied as an RTS game, it would be a horrible idea. Yes, they are going to continue the universe after the trilogy they've said, so your idea of aliens could possibly happen, but I'll be damned if they are stupid enough to make an RTS.
