Ah yes, me and a few friends have made the same argument. The only problem is the dialogue given by the survivors would be missing, but an idea to counter this is each player character having a voice type or something similar so they could all have said dialogue.

To me Bioshock is on my top 5 games ever for it's rich and imaginative environment as well as it's wonderful story. At times the game has an eerie vibe about it but for the half of it you will want to go forth to see what surprises are next.
