    Likes complex games, hate difficulty

Yeah... to me, challenge comes in two flavors: complexity and fairness. Managing hundreds of different factors to keep everything running smoothly (see: Dwarf Fortress) is hard, but it's a much more enjoyable kind of hard than having two moves, a thousand enemies, and having to nail EVERYTHING...

Dead Rising 3 PC Version Will Run Into Issues Above 30 FPS, Says Capcom

I am reminded of the days when buying a faster CPU sped your games up, to the point of being unplayable. As a software worker who has done some game projects, the thought of tying real-time logic to the speed of a non-fixed resource is horrifying. Even on consoles, that's spectacular incompetence.

Poll: Far Cry 4 can F' off, probably.

Totally disagree about the main points on Far Cry 3, however... I got it for free with my graphics card, and I'm one of the wierdos who liked both of the previous games, so there's that. I thought the plot was pretty nuts, but Far Cry games have never been about strong plot. They're about fun...

NSA + FBI Files Leaked, Massive Snooping on Millions of Americans

This just in: the NSA spies on the internet and your phone. Ones of people shocked. This is mostly an NSA activity, and that is what they do. The agency is America's electronic intelligence arm, and with more and more of our enemies being non-state actors, they're flailing around trying to...

    cars: manual (stick) or auto

Really have to disagree, at least for performance driving. Unless it's a double-clutch auto or a CVT, there WILL be severe lag when you step on the throttle as the transmission downshifts; as a human, you know what's ahead and can set the right gear ahead of time. Proper drifting is also...

Don't Flush Your Eyes, It's Chemical Spillage Simulator

You know games industry, when I said I wanted more sim games, I meant flight, space, and sub sims, not this. The simulator thing is getting kind of ridiculous - where is the audience for these things coming from?

Poll: Has a game made you cry?

Metal Gear Solid 3 - It's been nearly a decade, I've seen it probably 15 times, and I still choke up just hearing the music. One of the truest, non-jingoistic expressions of patriotism (I don't care where you're from, still true) I've ever seen. Bioshock Infinite - this game made me want to...

    Poll: Best Antivirus

Once upon a time I used Avira, but then it let a worm in that started infecting executables. When Avira detected it, it proceeded to quarantine every infected executable without asking - including critical system services, thus borking my computer. Then I switched to AVG, but it wasn't exactly...

Stupid reasons to hate video games

This is not a stupid reason. I hear this from people constantly. There are entire mods whose sole purpose is to bypass the Fade.

Infinite from someone who thought Bioshock sucked

Actually, I had huge problems with the lighting. In many cases I could not see what I was doing. What I meant about predictability is that from the second I heard Ryan's opening speech every bit of backstory I heard went down exactly as I expected. I didn't enjoy seeing how it got there because...

Infinite from someone who thought Bioshock sucked

Since there were a lot of people in the impressions thread with the same perspective, I thought I'd share. I didn't like the original Bioshock. It came highly recommended on its strength of atmosphere, storytelling, and gameplay, and I didn't like any of them. I thought it was the most overhyped...

    Bioshock Infinite impressions?

I would love to know if anyone is in the same boat as me: despite desperately trying, I could never bring myself to like Bioshock. Everything I heard tell of it doing right (narrative, atmosphere, interesting and varied gameplay) I just couldn't see in it. Infinite looks a bit different and...

EMP Missile Is No Longer Science-Fiction

This. EMP weapons tech has been doable forever. It's not even very difficult, you can build a small one from off-the-shelf parts for $500 US, minus explosives. And nuclear EMP has been possible since the first ballistic missiles. The area of effect theoretically greatly exceeds the initial...

Next Xbox "to have 16 core processor"

While that may be true of Xenon, I would be highly surprised if we don't see a heavily pipelined, out-of-order, branch predicting processor. The features are so common today, even in $1 microcontrollers, that it would be embarrassing not to. The main issue is heat generation; the reason the 360...

Poll: MGS collection or MGS 4? Which should a new comer get?

This is not even a contest. Even if the "collection" was just Snake Eater, it would still flatten MGS4. I would easily place SE in the top 10 games of all time. The ending, despite coming straight out of left field, is movingly tragic and brought me to tears. It's also by far the most...
