Firaxis Reveals a "Real" X-Com Remake

Ahmagash, awesome! SO EXCITING! Please, please, please, for the love of pete: make the environments destructible. I demand to get to blow up farmhouses with liberal overuse of explosives in revenge for killing my rookie with a reaction shot. Pleeeaase!

    Screw you, random chance!

/lurker mode M:TW is sneaky that way. They actually roll the random chance dice in the beginning of the turn to prevent exactly that loading/retrying exploit. What you need to do is use up the poor die roll on another random roll (for instance a spy check or an easier assassination mission)...

    Storytelling In Video Games

I think the definition of 'story' is what's the problem here. To illustrate: I recently saw some works of art by one Yao Lu, a chinese artist. Check them out: Yao Lu [http://www.pdnphotooftheday.com/2009/11/2627]. A second passes, and then you realize the beautiful, traditional landscapes in...

Twitter Trends Beat Analysts In Predicting Wall Street

I need some advice about Fallout New Vegas.

No glitches for me, literally zero. Maybe it was worse in the beginning or something, but I've had nothing but a smooth run so far (up to level 20, still haven't actually been to the Strip). So update-wise it's good. Story is good - it's not, as far as I can tell - very cohesive, but the...

Daily Drop: Daily Drop: Behind the Scenes

That was so awesome. Great job you guys, I haven't watched all the drops, but whenever I start wondering "what would X look like being destroyed in slow motion?", I'll be sure to come back here and see if I can find if it'd been dropped. And good job on being topical, it probably wasn't easy to...

Poll: Would you ever burn a book?

Absolutely not. All book burning (unless we're talking like, phone books) is disrespectful and honestly rather frightening. The written word is more than just paper and print, it's the sum total of what our civilization, and humanity in general, has achieved. Maybe some day in the future no more...

    Eurovision 2011 - Any Escapists watching?`

    Of course. It'll be awesome.

Poll: The Liberal Arts and You; The Importance of the Liberal Arts in the Modern World

I like the discussion going on here, aside from a few posts erring on the side of troll. By and large, the Escapist seems to be surprisingly 'liberal artsy' - which is not actually what I expected! That's an aside, however. As an English major moments from graduating, I'm about to feel the...

For School: What Games for a Games as Lit. Class?

Groovy thread, and good luck with your course - sounds like something I'd love doing. Most anything that I'd suggest has already been mentioned here, but I thought I'd add two entries to the sort of generalized Indie category: Every Day the Same Dream...

Pepsi Will Soon Make All Bottles from Plants

See my above quote on PET plastics. I'm not saying all plastics are recycled, but even if they're not recycled they can be reused. In Finland, at least, plastic bottles were reused on average 18 times, and almost 100% of them were returned for recycling. That's a hell of a lot of bottles away...

Pepsi Will Soon Make All Bottles from Plants

Bottles aren't made out of those plastics, they're made out of PET [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PET_bottle_recycling], which is quite recyclable indeed. I suppose in earlier times they weren't made out of PET, but even then each returned plastic bottle was recycled in average over 18 times. I'm...

Pepsi Will Soon Make All Bottles from Plants

Jesus Christ. Ever heard of recycling? No? There's this little thing we do in civilized countries, where every bottle or can you buy from the store can be returned to that same store (or any other store) empty and whole in return for a token sum - say, 20 or 40 cent. Adds up quickly though...

The Big Picture: PC Gaming Is Dead - Long Live PC Gaming!

I'm assuming someone has pointed this out about a million times in the preceding, oh, 11 pages, but.... A laptop is a PC. A tablet is also a PC (or a Mac as it were, but still), but I can see how that's seen as very different. But a laptop is just a portable, inferior version of your desktop...
