Hmm.... I'd say MGS 4's. Why? Because after handling more or less all of the essential loose ends (and a few non essentials) they decide to remind you that there's still more to come. What? Without Snake? Fuck you.
Spoiler's or not, I agree. No "Yes, MISTER PRESIDENT" or "They died a hundred years ago" just
Snake quite smoking, after that godawful credits song

Fallout 3. Some really logical reasons were blocked out with the "you must furfill your destiny." Very disappointing after such a great game. Plus you were helped by an invincible ally so you barely get to kill anything and the last boss is equivilant to the fable 2 last "boss."
I enjoyed the ending, and I don't see why people are complaining. Sure, there's a lot of buildup for a climax involving very little actual conflict, since your invincible ally handles it all for you, but to actually end the story, it was well handled, and gave a good sense of accomplishment.

Or maybe it's just post-game hype, since I finished it an hour ago. Maybe I'll get all grumpy about it in a day or two, like everyone else is.

As for bad endings, I'd say Bioshock. Sure, it finished it all wonderfully, but it was so short and left at least a few loose ends open.
For Fallout 3, a large segment is, we're talking about a franchise that has been built around personal choice. To end a game on rails like that, especially when other options are available is, quite frankly, insulting to the player. Or at least, it was to me.
It makes me laugh that nostalgia ruined this game for so many people. If the game was called ANYTHING ELSE, it would have just been a Fallout ripoff, and no one would have minded how drastically different it is from the original two. Personally, I hadn't even heard of the first two(and tactics, I s'ppose, so three) until Fallout 3 was released. I played them, though, and because of all the praise I expected a lot. It fell on its face, though. I really don't see what you guys are seeing in those games other than nostalgia.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about nostalgia and remembering the past. Hell, I'm a walking Pokemon encyclopedia, but don't look at the past, just play the game you've got right now, and respect it for what it is.
I have never played the first 2, the reason people hate the ending has nothing to do with that at all.

Fallout 3 is a game where you make choices.

The ending forces you to commit suicide to save the world despite the fact there are logical reasons in the game for why you shouldn't have to. It's possible to have a companion Super Mutant who is resistant to radiation. He could have gone into the chamber with the radiation to stop the explosion but claims he can't because it is "destiny" which makes no sense whatsoever. So the game forces you to go in and die from radiation.
Again, dude, Spoilers. It's really not that hard to put some little bits of text in there is it?

It's really quite a blow to find out how a game such as Fallout 3 ends if you were playing through it for the first time.

You know what? I'm going to skip Fallout 3 and Fable 2. They're pretty much givens.

What I am going to go for is Mass Effect. It just seemed like a generic, space opera-y ending. The main guy kills the bad guy, but the underlying threat is still there - does anyone smell a sequel...?
Well to be fair they did say it was going to be a trilogy from the start, and in my ending I got to be a bastard hehe.

For me KOTOR II had a bit of a rushed ending and some bits didn't seem to quite add up with the choices I had made in the game, still love the rest of the game though.
KOTOR II's ending was rushed because Lucas Arts insisted on a christmas release, despite the game being far from finished.

Mild spoilers perhaps:
[spoilers]So the fact that the happy ending was the worlds biggest ass-pull, un-did an entire games worth of character development (In the case of Ocelot removed FIFTEEN YEARS worth of motivation), made every single sacrifice in the game worthless, and was generally a tacky "happy ever after" cliche rammed onto what was being set up as one of the greatest bittersweet endings in video game history, didn't annoy you in the slightest? [/spoiler]

I'm actually quite looking forward to Metal Gear Rising. I was never much of a fan of the stealth game play's clunky feel (and was very much a fan of Raiden) and I'm of the opinion that Kojima's writing is as much MGS's greatest flaw as well as its greatest strengths. Maybe Kojima-by-proxy will water it down sufficiently to be slightly more sensible.
MGS's story lines were the only story lines I liked or even paid any attention to, they were intricate and nicely woven. I wanted to know why revolver ocelot is a triple agent, just that one story line is better than most of the crap story lines out there.

Games such as Fallout 3 or Haze have really obvious story lines that you could guess what was going to happen or what the story line was, so I skipped all the story parts or went and did something else till they finished.

Some people may say there way to complex and deep but thats what I love, something that requires thought.

It's a typical amnesia revenge story, only you're a psychic commando. The whole way through you're pretty much kept in the dark and once you beat the final boss your character states "i remember everything". que credits. NO planned sequal.

Utter BS.
True, but the games story was never it's strong point, I just saw it as an extra alongside all the killing and throwing people into heavy objects.

Play without pets 'n' partners ya bloody wankers!

The most dissapointing ending for me would be spore. A little cell, a bit animal, a little more tribal, normal bit city, SUPER DUPA' HUGE SPACRE ADVENTURE WTF I DIDN'T BUY IT TO DO SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN WITH A SPACE SHIP! And yes,I love caps lock :3.

Well, Assassin's Creeds ending was a little, erm, blatant, I guess. I know they said it was going to be a trilogy, but it would've been more subtle if they hit you in the face with a big rubber stamp that said "To Be Continued" ... Although I did like that they put puzzles in...

Are you serious?

Mine would have to be... absolutely none. I feel so good after beating a game that I don't care how silly the ending is.

GTA San Andreas also got me fired up at the end, going through all that nonsense, getting more weapons than North Korea, gaining enough cash to solve all the worlds financial troubles and all for him to just go, "no man, im goin back to the hood". why bother with the game?
may as well of stayed piss poor and beat up the neighbours

The ending of oblivion i felt was very rushed and was pretty poor considering how good the game was in all other aspects.

2 games come to mind straight away
1st Is Fallout 3 because there were plot holes in the story at the end and afterwards you couldnt continue finishing side missions and stuff like that

2nd would have to be Assassin's Creed. I was just getting into it at the end because the main missions began to bore me. Then it starts to get interesting and you start learning all this stuff about the people around you and why you are there and then it just cuts! I was like WTF!!!
I hope Assassin's Creed 2 follows the same story or i will be annoyed...

You're right. Even though the ending for that game was just freaking epic, and that brawl-fest between S an L, just aweeeeesome. It's kind of like "yeah, snake's story is finished, so you don't need to keep playing the series anymore, BUT we're still gunna whore it for whatever we can!"

Ah man...uh...well there were a lot, but it HAS to be Fallout 3, I know this has been mentioned but it just left a sour taste in my mouth, I couldn't play for months after beating it, though I do plan on picking it up and starting over, I just felt kind of gyped from the ending. But outside of that, I can't come up with another ending that really made me feel like Fallout...that or I'm not thinking far enough back, which is likely the case.

Edit: I actually thought of something else. Assassin's Creed, I'll use spoiler tags on this just in case.

After Altair recovers the Piece of Eden from Al Mualim and stares at it, Desmond is forced out of the Animus and left in that room, with no hope in sight except for Lucy who appears to be a good guy thanks to Eagle Vision, I was pissed because I really wanted to see what happened to Desmond, instead of leaving his fate to be determined.

Keep in mind that when I first beat Assassin's Creed, the sequel hadn't been announced or hinted at really, in fact for a bit it was kind of like it wouldn't come, so that sort of pissed me off. But I'm glad to know Desmond returns in the sequel and my questions are solved.

Fable 2 and Two Worlds come to mind (both of which are to be expected though, especially judging by how much everyone hated Two Worlds). But to me any ending in which you can't continue after or is just a cliffhanger kinda suck. Although not being able to go on after isn't really story related but it just pisses me off.

Patapon:

"We've finally reached Earthend, rejoice!"
Then they watch a stupid sunrise/sundown (I forgot already), notice that they're not filled with the joy they were expecting from the magical Earthend, conclude that it's NOT Earthend, and then just say "okay, let's build a boat and sail a bit further".

That's it. You just wasted 10-15 hours pressing the same buttons, killing and destroying everything in your path on some kind of stupid jihad, and all. for. NOTHING. The boat fucking crashes in a storm at the start of the second game anyway, and if you have an old savegame from the first game, you can import a bunch of your resources (which only lets you upgrade the weaker patapons only anyway), but that's all, and nothing more.

DAAAAAAAAAYUM
Ah, somebody else has actually played Patapon. I liked the endings, or my interpretation of them anyway. They'd hyped up Earthend so much, and thought about it so much, and imagined what it would be like so much, that when the time came that they finally got there, it just wasn't good enough to beat their expectations, and they always wanted more. Much like real life, sometimes.

Anyway, Prince of Persia. The new one
