Are an excellent arguement for stronger enforcement of the rating laws for games.

I'm 14 and I hate most of the people in that age group mainly because apart from my friends, there all tossers who will act like complete idiots for attention and think its cool to not be smart

Well, we can't blame them. It's not their fault they're too young to know that TIMESPLITTERS IS BETTER.

But actually I'd like to see more younger gamers experience a wider range of games. Try playing anything. There's even a massive pile of older games you can get for cheap at shops like Gamestation or CEX. The only thing I wouldn't play is sports games.
HAHA I'm 14 and I played timesplitters 2 and future perfect as a kid, they're one of the best shooter series of all time

Well, I have no issues with them. I do, however, belive that the probablity of a 10-15 year old playing COD or some such being a compleat wanker is somewhat higher then the probability of, say, a 20-30 year old playing COD or some such. Still, I'm not letting that dictate who I play games with.

I have found a few well behaved lower-mid teen gamers, oddly enough while playing WoW, but that could have come from 'respecting your elders' as I was one of the senior members of the guild. So I haven't had the bad experiences that some of you have had, although general in-game chat left a lot to be desired.

Having said that, if I am in an online game, then I try and join a TOG guild (The Older Gamers). Need to be 25 or over, and that acts nicely as a filter.

I hate people like this too and I'm in the age range you gave (admittedly at the very top but I digress). I don't play COD but I do play a lot of other games online and I play WoW. I only usually use my mic when I'm playing with friends but when I have it on and I'm not with friends I don't really say much occasionally just a 'yeah, come on' if I get a good kill or a 'damn' if I die stupidly. So yeah I don't like people around my age who swear all the time at every little thing that doesn't go their way.
Oh and Yeah! Go Timesplitters! :D

Judging someone through age as opposed to ability is descrimination and a very narrow minded way of thinking. And you know what's the worst part? I've known far more better, kinder, smarter teenagers then adults. It's almost like when you reach a certain age this asshole switch turns on . . .

Oh but I jest. The point I'm trying to get through is that it's probably never right to assume your age holds this trump card over someone in anything simply because of age. I'm nineteen at the moment and I just hope this belief remains with me for the rest of my life. Experience is not intelligence.

I really don't have an opinion. I judge people base on merit not age. Once you open your mouth and start saying "niger this" or "niger that" then I'll form an opinion but I just on general practice, i have no opinion.

I wouldnt mind gamers in that age group if they didnt use a mic.
No, not because of their voice I can put up with that. Its the fact that most of the kids I've ran into who use a mic act/talk like they are pro and will talk trash/swear way too often.

So I guess what I'm saying is it depends on how the person in that age group acts/talks

Yeah so I'm part of that age group (14) I also really hate the kids with squeaky voices who try to act tough but I'm sure that my friend's voices and mine aren't that bad. The "faggots" and "niggers" though, that's probably on the console side, the PC side is slightly better.

my dad is 55 years old. he plays shit like COD, Homefront, Halo, Gears, etc. JUUUUUUST to get better than you guys (which he usually does pretty fast) and hear you guys swear and cry about getting fucked. i've been on the phone with him while he does it. it's fuckin hilarious. so what do i think about your age group? you guys need emotional counseling. the biggest babies i've ever heard. seriously, rage-quitting simply because they're being sniped with an MP5 and not an actual rifle...."waaaaaaah, cheater, that's so fucked"
The thing about that is, most 10-15 year olds don't take these games seriously enough to ragequit -- they don't give a crap about their stats or their reputation or any shit like that, they just plug hours into games because they are fun. I rage-quit all the time now when my games give me shit (fuck you lag!) but back in the day I wouldn't have given a shit about anything that -- I wouldn't have dreamed of leaving a game and reducing my playtime! :p

Oh, and its quite cool that your Dad plays games, but he's still a bit of a loser if the reason he plays is to make other people feel bad because he gets some pathetic gratification out of it.

One more thing: Surely if there is one age group that is allowed to be "the biggest babies I've ever heard" it would be the demographic of CHILDREN? Seriously, its pretty obvious.

Well all age groups can be annoying (I am just about 16), but I guess I don't know the full extent of how annoying some people can get, because every time I get into a lobby with other people I don't know, I just mute them all. I prefer to play in silence :)

Although I guess in some way I agree that people (aged 8-13) do get really annoying when they go out of their way to annoy and abuse other people online...

So escapists what is your opinion about us. I say "us" because I am in that age group.

We've all played COD before, haven't we? Well remember those kids on the mic who started saying stuff like
the "N-word" trying to act all tough and that.

Escapists, what is your opinion about this age group?

(This is my first thread forgive me for anything i did wrong)
I can appreciate your dilemma, you clearly are interested in "M rated" games like Halo, CoD and Gears of War but officially you are not allowed to play such games.
For example there is almost a complete absence of any worth while online shooter that is rated as "age appropriate"

Also frankly although 10-15 year old can enjoy playing such games with each other, anyone 16-60 find you annoying as all hell due to in general your:
-gaming incompetence, relying on dumb tactics
-verbal immaturity
-poor grasp of good gamesmanship
-terrible sense of entitlement

I know there are exceptions, there are 12 year old that are mature and 30 year old that are immature, but generally those are so few and far between they get quashed out.

I find it pretty sad that officially gamers can't play ALL these games till they are 17:

-borderlands
-FEAR 2
-Killing Floor
-Left 4 dead 2
-Assassin's Creed 2
-Bad Company 2
-bioshock
-Mass effect 2
-Black Ops

Till 17 all you can play are the likes of:
-Mirror's Edge
-uncharted 2
-Street Fighter IV
-Most racing games

Considering gaming is not like movies, it's not something you can just come to at any age but must be brought up on it, become "game literate" in terms of learning hand-eye co-ordination of the controls, it doesn't seem right to exclude such a huge proportion of modern works to those 17+.

Whether that is the fault of the developers making games so violent or the censors being too stringent, either way I still believe young teens should be able to play GREAT games like Bioshock and Half life 2 even if they are M-rated.

Obviously the likes of GTA4 are not appropriate, yet they have the same rating, crazy I know, there NEEDS to be reform!
