I dont really think any games should be movies. Hollywood will destroy everything we love with alternate endings and a poor cast!

These have to be done exactly right, but yeah...

- Halo (I like the story of the Halo games)
- Gears of War (Marcus Fenix on screen, fuck yeah)
- Prototype (take all the cutscenes, have good acting, use missions to flesh the story out, etc etc)
- The Legend of Zelda (if done right, as mentioned beforehand, it would be fucking awesome)

I've got to be honest, I'm not convinced any game ought to be turned into a movie consider the simple fact that the best anyone has managed to do so far is make a movie that doesn't completely suck. There's yet to be a such a movie that was legitimately good on it's own merit.

That said, some game worlds would make excellent settings for movies. Half-Life could produce an excellent disaster-movie with scientists desperately trying to escape black mesa. You've got the setting and premise and one can build a plot from there rather than trying to cram 30+ hours of FPS action into a 90 minute crapfest.

Fallout 3 as a setting would work well and even the basic storyline would prove a functional framework. There are lots of changes I'd make were I to try such a thing, mostly in the interests of time, such as introducing the Enclave from the outset, and placing far less emphasis on super-mutant nonsense (raiders would provide a more interesting foe anyhow, at least for the sake of a movie narrative. Super mutants are just monsters with guns, but one can see raiding as a lifestyle of desperation rather than predilection for evil and mayhem.)

Halo could make a decent setting, but once again I'd omit the protagonist from the game, at least as a major character. The battle of Reich (I may have misspelled that) for example would make for an excellent setting, and the essential story being told (that of a last stand) has a long and proud history in movies

Rainbow 6 (the original) could easily be made into a compelling movie, and what's more since the game closely follows a book by an author with a long history of quality movie adaptations, it would probably work better than any of them.

Fable could be turned into an interesting animated film I suspect, and what's more the narrative is thin enough that one is free to take liberties with the plot without enraging the fans.

Really, the key is the game must have an interesting premise, setting or characters. Most games have none of these things, or if they do it's already been done in the movies anyway (see resident evil for an example). It doesn't hurt if the plot of the narrative is grounded in reality (thus why I suggest omitting the master chief and gordon freeman - the feats these characters accomplish is utterly implausible when translated into a movie).

One game I think would be cool as a movie (and actually good) is Second Sight. Maybe that's what they need to do; go with games that weren't big hits.
I would love that.

Personally, I was thinking of the Red Dead series. Hollywood's done Westerns before so it shouldn't be that hard, right?!

Also, the Halo movie that was planned would have been interesting if it wasn't scrapped.
If they start it again, I have the perfect ending... The Master Chief takes off his helmet and it is Chuck Norris... I'm not a huge fan of Halo or Chuck Norris, but if they did that, it would make the entire Halo series into a huge joke and then it would be amazing...
Close enough? http://news.softpedia.com/newsImage/Master-Chief-is-in-Fact-Duke-Nukem--Forever-2.jpg/

"The Cast: Admittedly he's a goofball at times, but Shia LaBeouf is a favorite of Spielberg. Having carried the successful 'Transformers' films, he could do a fine job as Cloud Strife."

When I read that line I nearly cried, /facedesked, and then proceeded to close the browser as that one suggestion makes that list lose all interest. And no...Spielberg does not deserve to go anywhere near a Final Fantasy based movie...EVER.

And no....Leonardo DiCaprio would not make a fine Link, I would probably go on a mad shooting spree if some of that lists suggestions came true.

From that list, I can definitely see inFAMOUS as a movie, and I thought BioShock was being made into one already?

I can also see Resistance as a movie. Mirror's Edge could be pretty damn good too, in the right hands. Dead Space also.

I would suggest TF2 be made into a full on movie and I think it would work, judging from the excellent quality of the Meet The videos.

GTA4 or Vice City have decent enough story lines, they would need fleshing out though.

I'd love to see a good Silent Hill film. The original was shot beautifully, but it was a little hollow. If the next film was a faithful adaptation of Silent Hill 2, I would be violently excited.

I wouldnt be the first to think a Zelda movie (if done right) would kick ass...
This, definitely. Also Metroid Prime, if done right, with good voices.
Hey, I'm just waiting for a Metroid game in general. If they do make them, I'll be waiting for Metroid Prime 1 & 3.

Not much of a Zelda fan, but hey, to each their own....
Wait, what? Have you only played MP2? If you have, they're releasing all three games on a single disk with MP3 style controls for MP1/2.

Personally, I think Metroid lends itself to movies better than most other games because there isn't some long convoluted plot to squeeze in. It's kind of structured like Aliens, where the protagonist lands, explore for a bit, shit gets real, then they fight with a giant alien. Since you don't have to squeeze in a bunch of characters, you can just have Samus shooting space pirates while she collects stuff, then fights Ridley and Mother Brain.

As long as they don't give her a random, pointless love interest, you could have a pretty good action movie.
Actually, the only Metroid game I HAVEN"T played is MP2. Although, I've been meaning to get around to it...
I suggested MP1 because I liked the game, (and want to see a cinematic battle between Samus and Meta-Ridley)
I also suggested MP3 because it is already cinematic. Seriously! When I was on the main deck of the Olympus during the Pirate attack, I was thinking "Holy Sh*t!". You know what I mean.

Yes, I know all about the Metroid Prime Trilogy coming out.

Yeah, Metroid is structured like Aliens because it was inspired by it. Think of the similarities:
1) The main character is alone most of the time.
2) Traditionally, the Metroid games have a countdown sequence, like Metroid.
3) At some point, both main characters have DNA infusion of the antagonist species (Ellen = Aliens, Samus = Metroids)
4) Samus' personal rival, Ridley, is taken from the director of the first Alien film, Ridley Scott.

You're right, as long as they don't put random, pointless things, like the love interest, it should be a good movie. But please, DON"T LET UWE BOLL DIRECT IT!! We don't want any of the crap he gave us like in House of the Dead (it was my favorite arcade series and Sega series).
