Ah well, it's canadian dollars, so that's like fifty cents in American money. Right? Right?

Sounds about right, cops will pull you over for flipping them off or insulting them. Just like bus drivers can kick you off for insulting them.
They don't need shit for doing their job, just like the rest of us.

That's crazy. I once got cautioned for swearing at the top of my lungs in the town square in broad daylight, incidentally outside the police station aswell. Just a caution.

Fines?! Ridiculous....

I'm always amazed when someone is surprised when they're being dicks to cops and get in trouble. You won't win, they can find a million and a half reasons to make your life miserable.

I'd be more sypathetic for the guy if he wasn't so fucking stupid he flipped off a cop. It'd be worse if he gave some guy the bird for cutting him off and a cop just happened to notice and fine him, but that wasn't the case now was it?

Deserved it, to many people have lost respect for pretty much everything these days, so sucked in to him, maybe they should of beaten him as well.

Canada's becoming more authoritarian by the day, and it looks like it's going to be totalitarian in the future.

Obviously, this is bad.

The idiot deserves it for flipping off a fucking cop. Some people need to be fined $110 to learn not to do stupid things like that. He's lucky the cop wasn't a "bad cop" and didn't beat the shit out of him for it.

I work in a shoe store, you give me the finger I'll tell you where to go. You give a cop the finger and he'll give you a fine. It's blatant disrespect, free speech isn't the issue.

While I don't really understand how holding up a finger is offensive, if the guy knew doing it would piss the cop off and did it regardless, he deserved the fine.

I wash my hands of this ridiculous affair. I don't know which side is more stupid. I MAKE A DERISIVE COMMENT IN THEIR GENERAL DIRECTION
As for the Canadian Dollar, it doesn't matter. If our OPer doesn't know the exchange rates, let them be ignorant!

Flipping someone off? What's the big deal. If I were in Canada I'd just say "Listen buddy, I wasn't speeding."
If I was the cop I'd say...
"I'M NOT YOUR BUDDY GUY!"
I'd flip 'em off again and yell "I'm not your guy, friend!"
"I'm not your friend, buddy!"

On Topic, I don't think this any sort of infringement on the guy's part; if you go out of your way to audibly or visually express hostility towards an officer of the law, I'd expect that a fine is in order.

While that's true, Canada is still more authoritarian than the states and I don't think our "freedom" is going to last too long, comrade.

Yea, god forbid that people were actually to start doing what the police asks it to do!
That's not what I meant. I actually have nothing against the police as a whole. What I did mean was that the laws are becoming more and more strict and confining.

I think it was wrong for that man to flip the officer off, but I also think it was wrong for the officer to fine him.
