The thing I hated regarding the realms was...
That Jotunheim, the Giant realm, was so underwhelming and of course, short. You know you need to go there probably even before the halfway point in the story. Every time you think you can actually go there, the game is like "nope, the princess is in another castle". Then, you finally get there and you don't do anything but walk for like 5 minutes.
Apart from the two giant-ass revelations. The game never set-up the final realm as this incredible thing where you have enormous Boss battles or whatever. When you get there you do the thing you pretty much set out this whole journey to do. I don't know what else you would've wanted out of it, considering it follows up on a game that's already 40+ hours long. And it's not like that whole time you're just dying to get there -- it's an end point to a roadtrip.

Reading this [http://gearnuke.com/god-of-war-director-explains-some-realms-not-playable/] also leads me to believe they are planning something very superfluous for the sequel, in that you will be accessing the same world plus the blocked realms, although the ground already covered might change significantly in some ways.
That would be a really shitty idea for a sequel. I'd been thinking of this myself, how the size of the gameworld is tied to the Lake of Nine, and that this is a very important place, but that they obviously can't just revisit that same hub world for the sequel, but then how are they going to create a similar sized world.. I don't know, but just going back there with the rest of the gates open would be incredibly disappointing. Maybe you-know-who being dead now and causing you-know-what will knock the world off its feet, forcing Kratos and Atreus to journey somewhere else or something.

I don't really need enormous boss battles or anything. The realm was shrouded in mystery the whole game so I was pretty curious as to what was there, how it looked, etc. Then, you finally get there and 5 minutes later, you're done. A good portion of the content felt pretty sidequest-y and filler to me so I would've preferred less of that.

Bloodstained was pretty good.

Killing Floor 2's also proven to be pretty snazzy, but I'm worried that without some more varied gameplay modes it's going to get forgotten pretty soon.

2017 was one of the best years of releases I've personally had gaming in ages, so 2018 has felt pretty barren by comparison. The year's not over yet, still got Red Dead and new Call of Cthulhu on the horizon, but I feel like a lot of the games that I'm currently excited about won't be touched upon again until 2019.

I've heard this complaint labeled at the game by others, and I'm a bit puzzled by it. I mean, it's not like the game is lacking in content/length. Even the variety in scenery is pretty wide. But then I don't know if people thought this game was going to go through the entirety of Norse mythology and then move on to the next, because I've also heard complaints about..

.. the game not letting you fight Thor and Odin.
Please note, I didn't bring up the content for it is not a problem, neither is the rest of the battling peeps, half of that was known anyways so didn't make much difference. The problem is the game sets up a rule for Its' world that these are places you do end up literally selecting for your progression (sort of like a classic Zelda 3d would establish its' "zones" with simple colours). but are told eventually it's all nothing. Ignore it. But why make it a selection in the first place? Other exploration based games use this type of forshadowing, it's not unique here!

It's been a pretty poor year so far. Best would be Far: Lone Sails and Orwell: Ignorance is Strength. Lake Ridden and Forgotten Anne were okay and of course the last few chapters of Pillars of the Earth. Other than that, not much of interest.

I think it's because to not have them there on the dial would be even weirder, since Norse mythos is all about the nine realms. Maybe they could've presented it as not an option by showing the gates being broken, but simply stating that these are locked off by Odin achieves the same result I think.

Yeah, I was trying to think of a middle-ground alternative that would fit for the world, it's just that as an avid exploration lover, it was a minor disappointment that those were selectable dead ends and not forshadowing of future areas.

For real though, they could have just had Mimir say something like, ?Those realms have been sealed off for ages. An example of Odin?s twisted sense of humor, all to spite Tyr most likely. Perhaps someday we?ll find another way...?
