There have been some 2nd Person sequences in recent Legend of Zelda games (mostly boss battles).

I also saw one in Baten Kaitos 1, sort of. But it was from the viewpoint of some random crystals, instead of the normal 3rd person. I don't know if that counts or not.

It's an interesting concept. Not like the cameras in games couldn't get any worse. An indy developer should try it.

yeah, true. i just thought that with a camera constantly moving around like a real person, it would make it more exciting, especially if you have to stay in view of the person or else you die from something off screen

The new Kayne and Lynch was 2nd person wasn't it? It was filmed through the eyes of a video camera man...ya, that worked out well.

It was done in God of War III once for a short sequence, but it wouldn't work for a whole game.

Second person is that the person playing the game is the character. Like in a second person book. 1st would be "I grabbed the gun", 3rd would be "he grabbed the gun", 2nd would be "you grab the gun". Motion control is really the only way this could work as your are actually doing the actions on screen.

In terms of writing, first person is "I did this" and third person is "He/she did this".

Second person is "You did this" and is very, very rarely used in storytelling mediums because the first and third are far better for this purpose. The only instance of second person I can think of is perhaps in advertising campaigns.

Second person is NOT through the "eyes of someone else", nor is it a "fixed camera view", that is the same as third person if you think about it.

There is no such thing as a second person point of view as it were and a second person game as you seem to be thinking is not possible. The closest thing I can think of is a first or third person role playing game with a voiceover/cinematic narrative referring to the player as "you".

I think this clears this up, but please feel free to ask for clarification/post a counter-argument.

EDIT: Some of the things I just said might have been covered while I was typing.

not sure. i just hope some indie developer tries it to see what its like, cause i just had an idea for a spiderman game like this. a cameraman on an above ground subway watches spidey swing and beat up people while we control spidey.

As stated before, that's just 3rd Person camera. Granted that the camera is from the viewpoint of the boss for that section, but it's still 3rd Person. Now, if you wanna see more games where you're seeing the world from an NPCs eyes, then sure; just don't call it something that it isn't.

Clairvoyance in Psychonauts is essentially this, albeit for only small durations.
And, OH! how painful was it? The best bit of that mechanic, of course, was being ableto see the world as other people saw it. So Raz, looking through the eyes of a small girl, sees himself as a creepy man following her... very interesting.

Also, I do remember Psychonauts having a sequence where you saw Raz, the main character, through security cameras. You could not move the cameras, and had to control Raz based solely on what the cameras allowed you to see. It was frustrating, but creative.
