I'm actually considering just getting a PS3 at this stage.
Ah right. You could prolly trade in everything else apart from the xbox and not have to pay much for it. Then you could play some ps3 exclusives. I know I'd prolly get MGS4, I've not seen that movie yet.
It's more like a tv series, or a 20 movie collection :)

I once experienced the ever-frightening/disappointing RRoD, but thankfully they sent me a box, fixed it, and returned it. Honestly, I found them very helpful.

Sorry to hear of this tragic passing. But at least there's a more shiny, more quiet and more... new Xbox you can treat yourself to.

When the disc drive breaks, it breaks without warning. If it's still under warranty, send that sucker back.
The warranty is up. Which sucks.

like most products from microsoft they are desgined to break after a few years so you have to pay more money for it later down the line.
Like windows and office?

Oh wait, they just break right from the start.

Or something. Personally, windows has been working great.

Like others have said, It does look like the disk tray here..

One question, before today, has your disk tray opened every time you push open or has it had times where you've had to push it a few times to make it open, like it's stuck.

Another thing you could consider is looking for the local console repair shops, they are often cheaper then Microsoft's repair service and mostly do it within 1-3 days.

Out of warranty = need to pay for repairs, it's the definition of warranty. But out of curiosity, how long ago did you buy it? Was it new?

BTW the hardware that usually fails on X360s (the older ones in particular) is the motherboard (that results in RRoD), not the disc drive.

Another thing to try, I was just reading.

Take off the face-plate, carefully. :p

Grab a pin and insert it in the pinhole on the disk tray to open it manually. Once you do this open it fully, close it, place the faceplate back on and give it a shot. It's a long shot, but it might work. :)

Ok, FUCK Microsoft.

I phoned them and they told me because my warranty is up it will be a paid repair that will cost me 90 euros. What the hell?

This was in INTERNAL hardware failure. I didn't break it. I take better care of my 360 than anyone I know. I never even move the damn thing.

The product was obviously not fit for the use in which it was intended. And I have to pay for the repair? I call bullshit. Fucking Microsft.
Hmm, maybe try and trade it in? I don't know if they go check it, but it'll turn on alright without a disk.
YOU!

Because of you my used DS Lite that I purchased was broken! The touch screen would not display or respond to my touches!

THAT WAS YOU!

I hope you understand that this mean war.

wierd chugging, farting noises
I loled and choked on my jammy dodger!

With my first 360 the games would often freeze. One day when it made a terrible grinding noise I found a circular scratch around the disc I thought "fuck this" and I rang up MS. It took me 2 calls to get it shipped off.
It came back to me and all was well. Eventually it froze again when I was playing another game and did this once again I think. I called back and they took it away again.
This time I got a new 360 back and it seemed that it was working fine. However, it froze once more when I played a game a few weeks down the line. All problems stopped after the NXE update though.
That's my story.

As for your case I would, if you're young, get your dad or someone to do the talking and get up in their faces about it and demand a replacement and how this kind of performance in unacceptable blah blah blah. I was firm with my calls and they were like "grand so we'll fix it." There are some pricks alright on custcare >:[

EDIT: Your warranty was up? Well sorry chum you have to sort it out yourself it seems.

Are you gonna hold a funeral for it? I'm sure there are a lotta ppl who'd like to spit on it one last time xD

Sorry your console committed Harakiri.

It seems that just by the number of ppl whose Xboxes just decide to stop functioning on any random day seems as if Microsoft programmed them to stop working after a set period of time. Programmed Console Death. Now that the 'Slim' 360 is released, Microsoft couldn't have you still playing your old 360. That would just be bad business...

It's pretty convenient timing alright, lol. But not for me... I was going to trade in this little bastard of a thing for the new one to get 25% off.
