The article is far to recent to say anything. But if in the upcoming days Nintendo doesnt come forth to deny such allegations then they are letting it go and should be held accountable. And yes they are liars, while the wii was still called revolution they said it would be in par with the other consoles processing power.

Simply put it won't. I'm skeptical about the 3D part, nevermind it beingon par with Sony's totem of godly doom. The whole idea of a 3D handheld is just bullshit in my opinion. How the hell is it going to change anything. Unless the 3DS really does have as much horsepower as the PS3 or XBox then it's going to make bugger all difference seeing Mario in tiny 3D. Show me a portable Twilight Princess with glorious 3D then I'll be happy. What a load of bull.

Right, because the SNES being more powerful than the Mega Drive, the N64 being more powerful than the PSX and the Gamecube being more powerful than the PS2 was all just a happy coincidence. People need to stop looking at the Wii and thinking they know Nintendo's full history and ideology.

N64 used cartridge, obsolete to discs of the PSX in most ways, as it could hold less data, less colours and worse textures. It was potentially handicapped.

I think it is quite possible. Why?
Gaming laptops today have GPUs that can far exceed the processing power of the 360. If I recall correctly, the gpu in the 360 is about the same as a nvidia 7800. Or something like that.





That is about the size of a laptop gpu.
All you need now is the CPU, some RAM chips and all the other necessary elements that make up a circuit board, and I do believe it could be as small as the DSi, maybe a bit bigger.

There is one thing with my claim that worries me. That laptop gpu right there has that big ass heatsink on it. Heatsink + handheld = My fingers are gonna be hot.

They say nothing about graphics. It just says it basically needs to create a copy of the game being played and show it at the same time.
Power =/= graphic capabilities

No it's not possible because of cooling. The 360 is on par with the 8800GT and the PS3 is on par with probably the 9800GTX+ but there is no way the 3DS will be close to either.
Firstly, size - to fit in a powerful GPU and CPU you need room and there is no way they are going to be using the newly manufactured 28nm chips as that'd cost a fortune. Plus with power you need electricity and there is no way the 3DS will be able to power powerful chips unless it has a battery life of 30 mins. Also as I said before cooling will be a big issue and there is no way that chips the power of the 360 and PS3 can be cooled with simple airflow. The smallest GPU in terms of power to size that Nvidia make is the GT240 and that still needs a fan and about 60W of power, while still being quite a bit less powerful than the 8800GT, even though it is a 40nm chip.
What we are more likely to see is a console with the power of the Nvidia Tegra chip, which is somewhere between PS2 and Xbox 360 but certainly not the power of the HD consoles. It's in a lot of pads so I'd be amazed if it wasn't, or something similar, in the 3DS.

Errrmm....No, the 360 is not a 8800GT, it's equivalent to whatever Radeons were around in 2005...X900 or whatever they were, and similarly, the PS3 is based on a GeForce 7900. If they were 9800GTX+'s, then the home consoles would be able to achieve 1080p, which currently, they struggle with greatly.

There is a lot more than just claiming high resolution = good graphics. Any video card can do a desktop at 1600x900, what you need to know is the complexity of the images, such as shading, plus the textures will still be of a low quality, AA, AF etc.

On topic, this references processing power but not graphical fidelity. I expect it will be the same as the GBA or the DS, detail wise. Which isn't TOO shabby. Yeah, think is how do you know if the game is well optimised for the consoles? =\
The have different CPUs to a standard PC as well as different architecture, with the PS3 having a lot of power usually ignored in the SPU's.

Being a bit of a graphics whore it is quite clear that many multiplatform games aren't optimised for consoles. Compare Uncharted 2 which looks pretty bloody good, even by PC standards, and put that next to MW2, which looks like a jizzy tissue even on PC.
Ideally some kind of benchmark software would be nice, but alas, not going to happen for this generation unless someone is really bothered about knowing each systems full potential.

Optimization doesn't really matter since no platform has had more work than the other so the only differnce is horsepower.

MW2 stacks up quite nicely to UC2 as well (60 fps vs 30 fps), its not night and day like farcry to farcry 2

Still don't really get the "3DS" Thing, I mean I get the pun; but "DS" stands for Dual screen, so shouldn't "3DS" mean it has 3 dual screens, making it a 6 screen console?

Actually, every screen on the 3DS will be 2 layered screen in order to get the 3D effect without using 3D glasses.

So, now Nintendo is spewing technology from the 1800s. Gee, that isn't gimmicky at all.
At least their new system must be more powerful than the Wii (well, that's not raising the bar much..but still) so perhaps we can finally see Nintendo regain their senses and cater to both crowds again and not just the casual-shovelware market.

But I'm not optimistic. No. I'm fairly certain that Nintendo is addicted to their new found source of wealth, and we can expect nothing but mediocrity (at best) from them for the next 20 years.
