I think that I am the only one that even likes the MGS storyline anymore...and one of the few people that actually comprehends it...

Just because you can understand the storyline doesn't make it a good one.
Maybe you don't like it, but I think it's amazing. That's my OPINION. Stop trying to govern what others think.

As rants go, this was actually very well written and thought out. Kudos.

I've never played MGS, but I have looked into the story, and from what I've seen it's nowt but pure soap opera. Obviously without playing the games I can't say this with entire certainty, but the synopsis' I've read and the cutscenes I have seen lend me the opinion that MGS is simply Eastenders with guns.

A truly good storyteller knows the effect you can have when you don't say something just as much as the effect of when you do. Hideo Kojima, as far as I can tell, not only likes to tell you everything, but then likes to tell you it again just in case you weren't listening the first time around.
That's completely not true. I've never felt force fed information, because I feel once you get into the storyline, you gobble every little bit up.

That is exactly what I get when I hear of MGS's story telling.

Maybe so, but just because you enjoy hearing something doesn't remove the fact that they tend to repeat themselves. A lot.

I've been saying for awhile now that, while the actual plot of the Metal Gear series was okay, the delivery was bad, and at times was borderline laughable.

I'm on a mission to stop Liquid from getting the Rail Gun. He's obviously already here, so time is of the essence. I defeat Crying Wolf and....

"Hey Snake, time for another bedtime story. This one's about Crying Wolf."

I'm not kidding. I think that's a direct quote. Dude, I'm in a hurry here! I know that Kojima only knows how to write "plot dump" style dialogue, but he could at least wait until a more appropriate time.

It didn't seem like he (or she?) was trying to govern anything. S/he just stated the simple fact that just because it is understandable doesn't mean it is good. I think you're getting a little overly emotional over this.

Look how you replied to j-e-f-f-e-r-s! You want to talk about opinions, but when he gives you his, you want to say it is untrue. And I positive he didn't mention anything about being forced fed information. No offense.

He was implying it, and if you look at my response to jeffers, I clearly state "I feel". Thus implying that was my opinion.

I've never liked the implication that MGS4 is somehow hard to follow. MGS2 was because it introduced concepts it never really explained, i was constantly scratching my head at that Laililulelo shit until MGS4 explained it. MGS4 on the other hand is relatively straight forwards, it's complex compared to other video games sure. But compared to a good book? Not really. So the whole 'you just don't understand it' shit is not a good defense.

Edit: Ah implying I use l33t sp33k, the argument of champions. Vamp's predicament is fairly tragic (although only about 3/10 on the MGS4 scale of epic tragicness) but that doesn't change the fact he's acted like a douche throughout the entire fucking series.

What was really *ahem* awesome about Vamp was how he kept licking his knives every ten seconds and it never got old or looked stupid, ever. Expecially not after (if not during) the very first time.

Leaving all the 12 year olds playing the game saying "Why does that dude keep licking his knives?"

Yeah, I have never played the previous MGS games but I found MGS4's storyline to be very easy to follow.

Of course, it helped to know a bit about the overall story itself, but the basic plot was pretty easy to follow for me. My very observant friend however pointed out some flaws in the story but in my opinion, if you try to point out one little thing that didn't make sense later on then you obviously didn't give the overall story a chance.

I don't get it.

Why do people complain about long reviews? They are much more awesome and informative. They let the reviewer actually tell you about the game/movie and what they thought of it. Better long than rushed and incomplete.

I don't have any problems with being concise, however.

hahaha that was a truly awesome rant. I personally enjoyed MGS4, and i thought the whole scene where snake was crawling through the god damn microwave oven was pretty moving (though waaaaay over the top), but i will admit that the whole thing was just a bit too farfetched. the story was campy fan service, which i can appreciate, but it's certainly not gonna be remembered as some sort of literary classic.

Also, i have at least a few problems when playing is secondary to the cinematics in a goddamn video game.
