Need to check these two out.
Good choice ;)

FYI, you can download the latest album of Maudlin Of The Well for free at their website [http://www.maudlinofthewell.net/] - it was financed via donations - and it's fucking brilliant. Keep in mind though that calling that particular album "Metal" would far overstretch the meaning of the word....

Also that thing...
...brilliant.

Interestingly, it reminds me of the Fallout New Vegas DLC: Lonesome Road - it emanates that same atmosphere of bleak vastness and mystery. Even the lyrics seem to fit a bit. I mean just look at that...
The buildings tumbled in on themselves
Mothers clutching babies picked through the rubble and pulled out their hair
The skyline was beautiful on fire
All twisted metal stretching upwards
...and tell me that it doesn't sound like what happened at The Divide.

Close, but not quite. You don't need to put the whole url in. Just the part after the = sign.

Rather than this youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BiOITZHC8I

All you need is this youtube=2BiOITZHC8I

you'd put the part i've bolded into the XXXXX part. Hope that makes sense anyway.
man if you live in auckland city and are into metal you practically know their lead singer, he's a cool dude. (thanks for the embedding advice btw)[/quote]

And now I'm jealous...

Haha I'm playing the Ultimate Edition so I might come across that part at some point. I actually first came across the album when playing Fallout 3, one of my favourite games ever. I was talking about music I liked to listen to whilst playing it, and I was told that "F#A#oo" was the ultimate album for it. I didn't really expect to like it cos at this point the concept of 20-30 minute songs was a complete bizarre novelty to me and I was still listening to relatively accessible music, but I first listened to it in full whilst playing that game and I fell in love with it.

Have you heard the new Offspring song? Now that's true punk.
What is this...I don't even.....

We really need to indicate some way to indicate sarcasm in written form.
You can always use sarcasm pink!
Right, that's that sorted. Sarcasm pink it is from now on :D Notice my lack of it in this sentence because I am deadly serious.

Also yes, that offspring song is fucking awful.

Well here goes:

Green Day - Longview
Rage Against The Machine - Bullet in the Head
Linkin Park - Iridescent
Ray Charles w/ The Blues Brothers Band - Shake Your Tail Feather
Pendulum - Witchcraft

I also enjoy Miles Davis, John Coltrane and the likes. Miracle of Sounds up there too. Somewhere. Probably 6th or 7th.

You can write intelligent, beautiful music and have it be cathartic and aggressive. Buried Inside spent their entire career recording extremely intelligent albums and every track the pressed had meaning. They made concept and theme albums about time, government, sociology and culture.

Mute protest of a new bastard form
Indentured to Mammon, further bondage is bore
Free market existence under free market terms
Secured at birth and bred as fresh livestock
To the power brokers of hypercapitalism
Our lives are on the auction block

Make way for the experience economy
Make way for the access economy
Make way for the new time-currency
Welcome it all like the coming of Rome

Something is provided for all so that none may escape
Spatial gives way to the temporal so that none may escape
Value is wrought in the abstract

While there is a time poor class, we are in it
While there is a mutinous element, we are of it
Where there is a life that must be bought, we are not fucking free.

In the given process, sabotage is a necessary resolve
A determined line of defence
In the given context, obstruction is a necessary control
A vested right to exclusion
Sanctioned, stamped and filed on the hallowed grounds of fiscal security
The front line which fortunes all depend

From the courtiers in the halls of Versailles
To the grab-mongers who warmed the seats in Uruguay
The message is clear
These promises will never eventuate

Armed with trace-chain and pack-saddle
On a roughshod crusade to capture, to enclose, to clog arteries and fill silos
Because the last frame broken is the first scrap claimed

Scarcity is woven into law
Values frozen into code

We are delivered
Reduced to the sum of all variables,
Aggregated, correlated and collapsed as so much data.
Sorted as targets and prospects through the means and metaphors of war
By design
By disinvestement
By self-eviction
A quiet withdrawal

Marked and managed with GIS precision
Take the knight, leave the pawn
Geodemographic solutions for predictive indexing
Bold jargon
Kind euphemism for the consigned spaces to live out our days

Running our heads against walls of words
Against apologists for hype
Against regimes without borders
And the rest follows from it
EDIT: Fixed lyrics, herp.

See, those are interesting, but not really my thing. This is the kind of music I was referring to:

<youtube=bRr_TDZiQuw>

Some people find this kind of music boring, but it's the one that is actually most interesting to me. I just lie back, close my eyes and let my mind wander over the mental landscapes conjured up by it. The lyrics don't much matter to me most of the time - the way I see it, they and the vocals are just another instrument, another layer, and while I can pay attention to them (like with Pink Floyd, who write the best meaningful lyrics IMO) I like it best when I don't need to. For a heavy and cathartic band who do that, I go to Muse, who I've already linked (though it was one of the less heavy songs).

Pretty sure it's them taking the piss... They've always done that kind of thing. The new album was still pretty dull though.

Anyway...
Love Social Distortion so much, asking me to pick a favourite song is a bit hard. There are a dozen songs I could put here instead, but this is the first one I ever heard.

Anthrax are probably my favourite metal band; great riffs, good lyrics and they don't take themselves too seriously. Too many metal bands just aren't fun enough.

The Black Keys are better than the White Stripes. They just are.

I'm pretty sure there are no bad SM songs, but I'd probably pick this if I have to. It's interesting to hear a song about suicide that's not 'I am so sad, I'm going to kill myself'

I love all LoG songs, but I picked this because it's the best live song. Always with the wall of death on the intro, it's just brilliant.

Heh, then I think you will be in for a treat! The NV DLCs Lonesome Road and Dead Money are among the most atmospheric locations that I encountered in a game in the past few years - and considering that you already felt that atmosphere in F3 (to which the album also fits) I guarantee you will like them - especially when you listen to the music while you are at it ^^

Man...now I need to try that out myself :D

Damn I hate this kind of question. I like too many songs and don't listen to enough of them often enough to easily come up with an answer. Give me a while to think about it and I could probably answer.

I Have too many songs to list, so here's some bands I picked instead. HUZZAH!
  • 1)Coheed and Cambria
    2)Gorillaz
    3)The Rolling Stones
    4)Jimi Hendrix
    5)Children of Nova
Not neccisarily in that order, or those bands, but these are the ones I primarily listen to at the moment. If not, The Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath and T-Rex also qualify for my favourite bands. (...and while I'm not sure it counts I've also been listening to a hell of a lot of game sound tracks.)

[Also]: My captcha was "das oontz". Which makes it sound like a stereotypical German person explaining dubstep.

in order
This sickness it burns inside me
It sticks in my throat I'm gonna choke I cannot speak
Besides it runs the fear of the unknown
Could this be some reckoning
Wrath for wrong I've done, comin' back to haunt me
The God I have denied his power shown
But now I can't protest although defiant heart it pounds deep in my chest
I know that this will have its way with me
For now I choose to go
I know it's just the mind tryin' to interrupt my flow
Intentions all fall down
My soul has died
Feed the greed, its not need I figure so what
Can you fix the hole
that resides deep in this gut
Right now I need a drink so
I'll fix myself whatever it takes I cannot wait
Now, this will not die they warned me in church when I was young I could rely
If there's a God, he's one I've never seen
& now I just lament
Did not held the threat I played the cards that I've been dealt
Like putting out the fire with gasoline
For when I used I lose won't face the fear of life without something abused
That now I'm forced to find another way
My show your final show
A homicide I tried to warn, you should have known
Now I'll take you with me
Show you my pain
Feed the need it's not greed, I figure so what
You gonna tell me punk now uh-huh
Can you fix the hole
that resides deep in this gut
I'll fix myself whatever it takes I cannot wait
Come & get it, Come & get it, get some
I feed the need that twists my mind
Time & time again (gibberish) Come & get it

Alright then, picture this if you will:
10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, and a box of Krispy Kremes, in my "need to know" pose, just outside of Area 51.
Contemplating the whole "chosen people" thingy when a flaming stealth banana split the sky like one would hope but never really expect to see in a place like this.
Cutting right angle donuts on a dime and stopping right at my Birkenstocks, and me yelping...
Holy fucking shit!

Then the X-Files being, looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan with Isabella Rossellini lips and breath that reeked of vanilla Chig Champa,
did a slow-mo Matrix descent out of the butt end of the banana vessel and hovered above my bug-eyes, my gaping jaw, and my sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip and all I could think was: "I hope Uncle Martin here doesn't notice that I pissed my fuckin' pants."

So light in his way,
Like an apparition,
He had me crying out,
"Fuck me,
It's gotta be,
Deadhead Chemistry,
The blotter got right on top of me,
Got me seein' E-motherfuckin'-T!"

And after calming me down with some orange slices and some fetal spooning, E.T. revealed to me his singular purpose.
He said, "You are the Chosen One, the One who will deliver the message. A message of hope for those who choose to hear it and a warning for those who do not."
Me. The Chosen One?
They chose me!!!
And I didn't even graduate from fuckin' high school.

You better.
You better.
You better.
You better listen.

When he looked right through me
With somniferous almond eyes.
Don't even know what that means
Must remember to write it down.
This is so real.
Like the time he floated away.
See my heart is pounding,
'Cause this shit never happens to me.

Can't breathe, right now!
It was so real.
Like I woke up in Wonderland.
All sort of terrifying.
And I don't wanna be all alone when I tell this story.
And can anyone tell me why
you all sound like Peanut's parents
Will I ever be coming down?
This is so real.
Finally it's my lucky day.
See my heart is racing,
'Cause this shit never happens to me.

Can't breathe, right now!

You believe me, don't you?
Please believe what I just said, see the Dead ain't touring.
And this wasn't all in my head.
See they took me by the hand and invited me right in,
Then they showed me something.
I don't even know where to begin.

STRAPPED DOWN MY BED. FEET COLD AND EYES RED.
I'M OUT MY HEAD. AM I ALIVE, AM I DEAD?
CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY SAID.
GOD DAMN. SHIT THE BED!

(high... I I I I I... high... I I I I I)
(high)
[repeated]

Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be the one.
Born to bear and read to all
The details of our ending.
To write it down for all the world to see.
But I forgot my pen,
Shit the bed again,
Typical.

STRAPPED DOWN MY BED. FEET COLD AND EYES RED.
I'M OUT MY HEAD. AM I ALIVE, AM I DEAD?
SUNKIST AND SUDAFED, GYROSCOPES AND INFRARED.
WON'T HELP, BRAIN DEAD.
CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY SAID.
GOD DAMN SHIT THE BED!

I...!!!

CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY SAID TO ME.
CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY SAID TO ME TO MAKE ME OUT TO BE A HERO!!!
Can't remember what they said.

OH NO, HELP NOW.
Can't remember what they said.

DON'T KNOW.
WON'T KNOW.
[repeated]

GOD DAMN SHIT THE BED!

I'm not like them
But I can pretend
The sun is gone,
But I have a light
The day is done,
I'm having fun
I think I'm dumb
Or maybe just happy

Think I'm just happy (x3)

My heart is broke
But I have some glue
Help me inhale
And mend it with you
We'll float around
And hang out on clouds
Then we'll come down
And have a hangover

Have a hangover (x3)

Sit in the sun
Fall asleep
Wish away
soul is cheap
Lesson learned
Wish me luck
Soothe the burn
Wake me up

I'm not like them
But I can pretend
The sun is gone,
But I have a light
the day is done,
I'm having fun
I think I'm dumb
Or Maybe just happy

Think I'm just happy (x3)

I think I'm Dumb (x12)

The world is my expense
The cost of my desire
Jesus blessed me with its future
And I protect it with fire
So raise your fists
And march around
Just don't take what you need
I'll jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed
Crawl with me into tomorrow
Or I'll drag you to your grave
I'm deep inside your children
They'll betray you in my name

Hey, hey
Sleep now in the fire

Hey, hey
Sleep now in the fire

The lie is my expense
The scope of my desire
The party blessed me with its future
And I protect it with fire
I am the Nina The Pinta The Santa Maria
The noose and the rapist
The fields overseer
The agent of orange
The priests of Hiroshima
The cost of my desire
Sleep now in the fire

Hey, hey
Sleep now in the fire

Hey, hey
Sleep now in the fire

For it's the end of history
It's caged and frozen still
There is no other pill to take
So swallow the one
That made you ill
The Nina The Pinta The Santa Maria
The noose and the rapist
The fields overseer
The agent of orange
The priests of Hiroshima
The cost of my desire
To Sleep now in the fire

I would like to note, i love just about every song each of these bands makes.
i had to use a mathematical formula to determinate what would be my favorite song from each band
(formula used was AxB=C, where A is the amount of times ive listened to it, B is song length in seconds, C is now the Favoritism point value of the song)
