Even with all its flaws, the TES world is probably the best RPG franchise active in the moment. Yes, even better than ME and Star Wars. I said it.
It's difficult to fully explain why. Part of it is that if you are a veteran of the series, you kinda know what to expect when you play the game, but there's always some regional twists that enhance the experience.
We'll all read, for the fifth time, "Mysterious Akavir" and "The Life of Barenziah" on the bookshelves, but there will be some local books and lore to add up. This is so crucial to the whole feel of the game that helps us overlook some of its flaws. We know there will be glass armor and daedric weapons. But we still want to know exactly how they'll look like. Continuity is a GOOD thing in RPGs, and this is one of the reasons so many of us played AD&D and D&D games in the past. We know the drill, but not the details.
Also, there's the fact that it is not an Asian aesthetic. No shoulder pads big enough to build a small house upon. No sword three times as tall as the tallest character. No gender-confused villain who keeps smugly smiling at us during cutscenes. I mean, JRPG is ok in itself, but it is so exhausted right now due to crappy games that having a high fantasy game that's not D&D is excellent. The TES aesthetic experience is unique and this is a good thing.
I also dislike the usual overhype around games. I also think that we should all reserve our judgement until the game is in our hands. But what really hypes me is being able to return to that world, flawed and quirky as it may be. It is the best fantasy world to be at the moment.
