Yeah, it doesn't help. Having no qualifications, no credentials, no transferrable skills, no work experience worth talking about, a job which you're holding onto by the skin of your teeth and the knowledge that you're a charlatan and a wastrel really doesn't help convince you that life will ever get better.

I'm at the nadir of my existence. If I were to be run down today by a car, I'd consider it the greatest mercy.
oh its you again...

are you some kind of troll? like in reverse?

Read this earlier today, really liked it.

Mostly because i'm just starting to build my own life after 12 years of studying, i may have to study even more depending on where i want to go but i just started working this week.

It's an exhausting work where i haul things around in a warehouse while working afternoon/evening. But i'll be damned if i'm not gonna do my very best and work my way up. Also, i get paid and unlike many others of my age i'm not unemployed.

That counts for something. Also, struggle builds strength.

God I love John Cheese. Christina H. also kicks ass. So glad they made them regular columnists over at Cracked. I have to confess, I check that site for updates on my daily rounds across the internet before this one.
Addendum: Captcha had "attempt", followed by what I think was Hebrew text. Well played, captcha.

You'd be surprised by how much you can achieve without any of those. The best example I can think of is a Starcraft 2 caster named Tastless. He was just an average Starcraft fan who decided that he wanted to commentate Starcraft as his job. So he got on a plane, moved to Korea and started working for it. He had no house, almost no money, and no plan. He didn't even speak Korean. Now he casts the GSL, the biggest Starcraft 2 tournament in the world.

Just out of interest what do you think of david wong?

I mean I think he's a great writer, however he's a little too "Im going to ruin you day and I'm right, ha! fuck you!" for my tastes

also I dont really trust his opinion on videogames, I mean he has good points, but he dosnt particualy care for modern games..plus he predicted a crash in 2007..that hasnt happend so far (mabye ti could..I have no Idea), Im not saying that makes what he says irrelevent, just that he cant always be right

All five are mostly wrong. Yeah, life can get a lot better for some of us currently doing it bad. But most people live unhappily and die young.

Hate to be the bearer of truth, but I've never been a fan of blind hope in the doubtful.

Yeah, if Wong is correct about the future of video games, we're in trouble. He's a decent writer, though. Good enough that his opinions and predictions almost make sense sometimes. Out of the "official" group of 5-6 columnists, though, I think my favorite has to be DOB.

The world isn't bad? tell that to the Africans who literally have to eat shit to survive. The majority of humanity suffers greatly. It's very possible that humanity is better of not existing, as we as a whole probalbly create more suffering than happiness. Well, there's nothing I can do about it and thankfully I'm part of the minority who has a fine and dandy life.
But yeah, if you live in the western world, things could be much much worse and you actually have the opportunity to make something of yourself, so put that opportunity to use.

Young?

Almost eighty years.
Can't argue with the "unhappy", though. That's subjective. The point of the article wasn't to start seeing the glass as half full. It was to go fill the damn thing yourself.

Edit: World expectancy is 69 years. Still not a short life, but a funnier number.

I wouldn't say MOST people, I imagine a fucking lot do, but certainly not MOST. My grandfather for example, he was piss poor after the Communists invaded South Viet Nam and took away all his farming land, but he still lived a happy life looking after my mother, aunts and uncles, telling them stories, kneading clay figures, and sharing out crispy burnt(not too burnt) rice to enjoy. He died of liver failure, but before so, told my father not to be sad, and told him to be strong, and look after my family.

Even in the aftermath of devastating war, and having your livelihood stolen by an enemy you can't resist, he was still happy. I hate to be the bearer of truth, but pessimism breeds only negativity, and we have enough of that. After all, the poor villagers in my fatherland, seem to lead happy lives.

The majority of the world live in abject poverty and don't live to see their 50th birthday, actually. Most of them dying of a mixture of starvation and disease.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who does not have a bleak, doom-and-gloom outlook on life. This thread has made me happy.
