(You have to scroll about half-way down)

Their list?
System Shock 2 (1999), Clive Barker's Undying (2001), Condemned: Criminal Origins (2005), Transylvania (1982)and Minecraft (2010)

Minecraft? Really?
Yes, Minecraft is a benevolent world-building game with a low-fi retro look that is anything but scary. But every game in this list has one thing in common: isolation. And isolation is the heart of Minecraft, a game that drops you into a huge, randomly generated world and gives you no objective other than survival.
Um? Does Silent Hill not ring a bell? That game is a hell of a lot scarier than Minecraft... and what about the old Resident Evil games? Those were kinda scary.
I'm kinda wondering what kind of person they hired to review video games. He's managed to work Minecraft into several of his articles recently.

Anyway, if you were to make a '5 scariest games' list, what would be on it?

Sorry about any annoying bits, I hit Post halfway through, and tried to rush to finish. :) Just point them out, and I'll fix 'em.

F.E.A.R. does it for me.
Try playing it in a dark room with two of your jumpy friends.
It's scary and fun, but mostly scary...

Newspaper game list? Really? This is where people are getting their lists now?

5 Scariest:
Silent Hill (1-4)
Prey
Amnesia
Fatal Frame
Condemned

5 Non-Scariest
Minecraft (No way, maybe the survival aspect, but traditional horror, it ain't)
FEAR (Followed cliche Horror elements from FPS genre, so not scary once you learned the 5 minutes past the intro)
Dead Space (it was scary, but really, all that occurred was 'jumping' scares)
Clive Barker's Jericho (more gross and guts than any actual horror)
Batman Arkham Asylum (many people still call this game scary...maybe if you were one of the convicts, I guess...)

come on, you cant just say "newspaper" and not tell us WHAT newspaper! incidentally, not a bad list. personally would have but silent hill 3 instead of transylvania

edit: ah never mind, as soon as i posted this, your post was magically edited to include the newspaper. does canada have better newspapers than america? discuss.

side not: the spell check tells me canada is spelled wrong, but america isnt? discuss.

Also New Vegas actually scared me >////>

They changed the way the ghouls growled and I was playing it kinda loud in a dark room, I screamed when I got hit all of the sudden.

Look, as fun and well-made is Minecraft is, it is not a horror game (Although it can be tense when you're lost underground, but that's beside the point). And seriously, where's Silent Hill?

If dropping you into a world where you're all alone except for enemies that clearly have an advantage over you is all it takes to be scary than SotC just crossed over into another genre as king. Bow down to the new survival horror master!

Anyways, there are a lot scarier games out there than Minecraft, some of which happen to work your nerves better using the alone part. Hell, any horror game where you hear a chainsaw will do it. It doesn't even have to appear, the instinct will do the rest. This means you could actual scare yourself more by accidentally pressing B during the powerplant level in Gears of War than Minecraft would ever scare you.

Hey, give credit where credit is due, System Shock 2 is a classic and Clive Barker's Undying was a damn fine game, both are easily deserving spots in any 'top horror games' list.

The other choices I can't quite so easily agree with, but hey, personal preference. Seems to me whoever wrote this article is more of a PC gamer if his choices are anything to go by, and while Silent Hill was on the PC, frankly they were terrible ports barely anyone played.

I haven't played the first Condemned, but I have Condemned 2: Bloodshot and I find that game pretty damn scary. I guess I should try and beat it again after I lost my save.

I like Steve Tilley, he's a nice guy, but seriously? Minecraft? He's a bit crazy, it would seem.

Though honestly, I think Siren ought to be on the list. Scary shit is scary.
