I actually agreed on most things, apart from getting less time for games. Currently unemployed, so I do basically nothing but game away every day. All day long!
Is heaven!

Why is the number reason 2 before reason 1? i wonder....
They go in descending order; there were five entries total, that was the second page, containing the last two.

OT: Cool your jets, vault girl. David Wong & John Cheese are some of the best writers on there. I didn't find anything particularly bitter in that article; it was all quite reasonable.
What bloody metric are you using, how pointlessly self congratulating they are?

Not only do they manage to not know a thing about games (they actually claimed gaming is about graphics now, and then compared that to fucking Donkey Kong Country, the game that rivals Crysis for how big of a deal it made about its graphics), they also seem to not know a thing about what a comparrison is. You know, like compairing an RPG from years ago to an FPS of today and saying that the former is too short, and then just ignoring the numerous 200 hour RPGs of today and the games from back then that could be beaten in half an hour and didn't even have multuiplayer to excuse themselves.
I agree...the thing is, the impression I get particually with david wong (based on the other articles he's written) is he simply doesnt like current games, he may not like them for valid reasons, BUT I feel he's a little unfair to them ,like

ohhh LOOk at all the dumb plain shooters out there! look at how crap gaming has become

when really you ask anyway gamer and there will generally be SOMTHING that isnt a brown shooter, Im noting saying the current AAA state is good but...it just seems easy to criticize somthing you dont like/are out of touch with

I gues sin the end the articicle says its not the GAMES its YOU...

also (and this is pretty illiogical on my part) I cant stand the "ohhhhh thank you mighty david wong! you are right! I shall throw out my games imedietly as you have shown me the error of my ways!!" ok I know the article isnt saying that....its just the feeling I get from the comments

What can I say? When he's right he's right. I found myself agreeing with a lot of the points until he explained why they were full of shit and I could not really counter argue them.

You just seem to have your panties in a bunch for no real reason.

Also, you might wanna read #3 of this [http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-bits-advice-that-dont-make-sense-until-its-too-late/].

Anyway, kinda sad that 26 is too old for video games. ;.;
hahahaha...ok you get a point for that

anyway I think I just get defensive in regards to videogames..he's probably right, I mean its probably already happened to me with movies...and Im not even 20

I like to be possative about thease things...its just I dont know, the article rubs me the wrong way

like all the comments "ohhhhhh THANKYOU mighty david wong! you have truly shown me the error of my ways!" and I know thats not even what the article is saying.....I dont know, its just david wong irrtates me and I dont know why

He made some good points, and I doubt he was even 80 % serious writing that. I don't see it as cynical at all, a few of his points were rather insubstantial compared to the message he was trying to send, but that's just cracked.

Oh and by the way to anyone who doesn't read cracked: READ CRACKED.

Just to clarify, you do realise that the second half of each point was them refuting what they just said, don't you?

First point, multiplayer is shit these days. Counter; no it isn't, it's just that he's outgrown the audience.

Second point, games are too long. Counter; no they're not, he simply doesn't have time for the long ones anymore.

Third point, game stories used to be more compelling. Counter; no they're not, he just had a more active imagination as a kid.

And so on it goes. They don't actually believe most of what they say in the first halves of each point. It's a satire website, you aren't meant to take it seriously.

Okay, you guys all realize that Cracked is a comedy site, yes?

That said, the message of the article wasn't "people over this age shouldn't play games" or "reasons games suck nowadays," but rather "these are the signs that your nostalgia filter is too thick." I really enjoyed it.

now I get some of the points in this article...but you know thease articles are beggining to annoy me/rub me the wrong way

its just why the fuck do they need to be so friggen cynical?..ALL the time, suyre I may end up like that..but still I dotn know, it makes me want to punch my computer screen, for some reason
Usually, it is considered polite to read whole article. Let me...

We tend to be very critical of the video game industry here at Cracked, and damn it, the industry deserves it. They charge more per-copy of their product than any home entertainment medium, and are always looking to squeeze us for more. If they don't like being held to a high standard, tough shit.

But ... a lot of the bitching I hear about games (some of which I hear out of my own mouth) isn't really about the games. It's about us, and the fact that once you hit a certain age, you're no longer the target audience game makers have in mind. Here are some signs that, sadly, you might be outgrowing your favorite hobby.

That wasn't cynical at all, in my opinion. In fact, that was downright positive in my mind. The people wearing rose-tinted-nostalgia-glasses should be brought down a notch. Everything wasn't so much better 'back in the day', that's just nostalgia-covered memories of childhood-wonder talking. Everything 'these days' isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
As interesting as I found the article and as much as I felt the same way as some of the reason descriptions, I find it even more interesting that half the people in this thread didn't really get it and think it's just a game-bashing rant.

But that's exactly the point of the article. He's throwing out all the common arguments people use when talking about how shit stuff are now compared to the 80s and 90s and then goes on to "realise" that it's just the same. Things haven't changed, WE have. People point at Crysis saying "it's all about graphics now; the game has no substance" and they forget that DKC tooted it's graphics just as much back in the day.

And that's the point. We used to play DKC for ages trying to get 100% and our parents kept saying "You still playing that game? It's always the same! You've played that level at least 10 times this week". But it was FUN for us. Similarly, we're saying that Crysis was all graphics and no substance, it's boring, we finished it and went on to find something else, yet a bunch of pre-teens and teenagers now are still playing the first Crysis with mods and just running around the island killing baddies in more creative ways.

Well, it's good to know that I'm definitely not getting too old to play games. How could I? Games are now what TV was in the 50's. It's not a hobby that just goes away. It's a permanent activity nowadays. The only problem is, greedy publishers are doing their best to fuck it up for everybody. Now they allow real ads in games? Hell no. Fuck you.

Ok, half of that article was just self-deprecating/making fun of the people who actually do go around saying that games have gotten progressively worse since the 19XX's (whenever they were a kid). It's not cynical, it's just pointing out that as you get older you experience things differently.

"They play Gears of War and laugh their asses off when they chainsaw an alien, and then proceed to do it over and over and over again, never getting tired of it. I swear I watch them play these modern games and it's almost like... and this can't possibly be true, but it's almost like they're having just as much fun as I had when I was their age.

It's like the poor bastards don't even know any better."

This is satire.
This man got the point.
And going by this thread very few others did!

Thanks for the link, great article, although I know that wasn't op's intent ;)

27 and too old for gaming!

Wait, so not liking multiplayer means I am an old geezer. Not an antisocial twat that I really am, but just OLD... Rrrright... I'm 19 by the way.

Read this article when it was posted. Didn't agree with it on many levels. It makes some good points, though.

Well if you hate them then why are you even reading Cracked? Seriously folks, if you hate someone just don't read their shit. You will never see me actively seek out Fox News articles then ***** about them. Why? Because I never watch their crap. And if I did then I would lose any right to cry about shit that I should never have bothered looking up in the first place.
People. -.-;;;
There are loads of writers on Cracked, David Wong's just one of them. And as someone who checks Cracked every single day, I can testify that it's difficult to refrain from reading an article that sounds interesting - especially one that pertains to my favourite hobby - even if the author is one I dislike. Not that I dislike any of them, but if I did, that would be the case.

Are you people really raging about an article on a comedy website?
Screw being too old, you need to grow the fuck up.

So, basically unless you think gaming is perfect and in no need of improvement or change you are too old for it... huh? (It's what I got out of the article, at least).

Well I'm 29 and I think none of these things. Except for maybe multiplayer when they tag it onto a game like dead space 2.... and the longer the game the better where im concerned otherwise they are a waste of money.

I think they are deliberately trolling the 'Well when I was a lad!' crowd. It's definately just for lulz.
