People need a license to drive cars, they need a license to hunt, they need a license to fish, they need to get their house inspected if they do serious repairs.

Yet there is no license or even cursory fitness examination needed to produce a child.

There is not a whole lot that can be said about this that hasn't already been said.I know that she should be punished for what she did, but when I get very angry a little red mist pops down in front of me, and I lose sight of what I do.The thing is, I don't hit people. No matter how much people irritate me, I don't respond with violence. Even though she did, she should've taken that poor little tyke to hospital before he died. And why was she not watching him play in case something like this did happen?

Just.. Wow

How can someone even do this, it's it's, unhuman!
This is why i have always said Humans are just savages who think they are more. Seriously...the words and grammar you use is horrible lol. Kidding.

Seriously this is messed up. How are people like this allowed to have kids in the first place....if only there was some sort of certificate in place that made it so unfit people couldn't have kids.
while i don't disagree with you, some of my most smartest/most talented friends/peers have come from places where you think "wtf happened there, how is that even possible?" so yeah, while i agree stupid irresponsible people don't deserve the right to have kids, especially at the rate that they have them, alot of them end up becoming something special.

Wow... Now I definitely know that if I have kids, do not raise them like mine raised me...

Also, disgusted that she didn't take the child to the hospital for five days. I can't imagine the amount of pain that child would have been in leading up to his death. And if you don't know anatomy, it seems like his ribs may have broken and punctured his internal organs slightly. The woman had a working week to save her child's life, and she didn't do it.

Just read this on a proper journalist website, not MSNBC, and here's some extra info.

"lacerating his pancreas and intestine in the process" That's basically injuries akin to a car crash.

"The boy vomited and complained of agonising pain for five days before Crawford decided to seek medical help, fearing she would be arrested if she took him to hospital." And as I imagined, agonizing pain. The only people in history to have suffered as much as this child suffered, lived before we discovered leeching. People in hospital are dying, but they at least get morphine.

And that's why the law is going to throw the book at this woman as hard as they can. And I support them in it after reading the child suffered so much and could have been saved.

EDIT: The child eventually died of an infection, which possibly means the doctors didn't know about the internal injuries early enough to prescribe an anti-biotic/anti-septic. And if she denied the hospital staff permission to do an MRI, they could definitely charge her with murder. Which would explain the murder charge and the manslaughter charge.

She's getting manslaughter and I'm not too sad about her being locked up.
Less chance of her giving birth again and raising a kid to be as crazy as she is.

Poor baby couldn't be saved though...T^T
She had another child, a 2 year old, it has been taken out of her care. And probably put through an MRI to look for any bone fractures.

My guess from this story is that the mother has some serious mental issues... very unfortunate for the son, but I also feel sorry for the mother - she's going to have to live with the fact that she killed her child over a trivial matter, and such a thing may be the worst sentence of them all.

I have a feeling she'll be sentenced for manslaughter, but be sent to a mental health clinic rather than jail.

Sorry, but no. No right-thinking parent would *beat* their child over a tv set.
Mine did.

Believe me, it isn't inevitable. I tore up some raceway tickets one time, intentionally (never been to a race before, and I was scared of car racing. Dale Earnhardt had just died) and not a finger was laid on me. Yelling and shouting, yeah. Fuming, yeah. Crying and screaming and shame on my part? Yeah. Beating and death? No.
Not all parents are the same- you're making the mistake of thinking all parents are nonviolent and relatively nonchalant towards their kids behavior. Parents and parenting methods are very diverse.

There are parents who beat their children. If they're anything like mine, I wouldn't be surprised it they got something bad. It is an inevitability that one of those parents who beat their children will do some sort of damage.

Unfortunately, we've just seen a display of this- it can happen, and it will keep happening.

They won't have anything funny to laugh about over this, because of a moron parent. Tragic beyond measure.
Agreed.

...no more a rake? Wut?

OT: This is one of those terrible stories that should be much more shocking than they are. It's still horrific, but I don't side with people advocating the death penalty. I have no doubt that she feels terrible for what she's done, and it's probably going to be the thought that haunts her for the rest of her life in jail.

Am I the only one who's not surprised? If a kid breaks a TV, their parents WILL beat ten cans of shite out of them.

Then again, that's maybe just my jaded opinion- I had a similar incident of breaking a stereo when I was younger, I won't deny I got it hard- bad bruising, even some concussion. On what my experience of this sort of thing has provided, an accidental killing via beating is inevitable. It's sad, but inevitable.

R.I.P. kid.
What worries me is you take it for a fact that a parent will punish their kids for damaging property with serious physical abuse. With the same laconical sense someone points out meat rots when you leave it out in room temperature. You need therapy dear.

I don't believe every parent will do such a thing, and I apologise if I may have conveyed a message that implied such- and I never came here with the intention of implying that; however, it is objective fact that there are a large amount of parents that punish their children via beatings, hence, it is inevitable some may go too far.

You need therapy dear.
That's just unwarranted.

Way to connect murder and Wii for absolutely no reason. This has nothing to do with video games, and everything to do with fucked up people.

Kim Crawford has been charged with killing her young son after the boy broke a television while playing with his Nintendo Wii.

Prosecutors allege that Crawford went into a rage following the TV's destruction, and that the woman admits to "hitting the boy hard in the back and stomach."

By the time police arrived at the Crawford home, young Jamar Johnson was unconscious and had stopped breathing. An autopsy confirmed that the child suffered "internal abdominal injuries."

It's interesting to note that Crawford's attorney is not arguing for the woman's innocence. While she acknowledges that Crawford attacked her son, she claims that the New York City resident had no intention of killing the child.

Currently Crawford is being held without bond in the Bronx. Presumably, a sentencing hearing is imminent.

Attentive gamers will recall that this "Wii breaks TV" phenomenon is far from novel. A cursory Google search for Wiimote-damaged HDTVs [http://www.google.com/search?q=wii+breaks+tv&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:eek:fficial&client=firefox-a] brings up thousands of examples of people flailing wildly and accidentally launching Nintendo's motion-activated controller through the screen of their expensive media box.

That said, I do believe this is the most tragic incident to spring from the console's existence. I refuse to condemn the woman until the courts are done with her, but of all the reasons to beat your child to death -- and there really aren't any good ones -- this has to place pretty high on the list of "most despicable."
