They are bumping up their prices. Because they should. More work, time, and money goes into making games these days.

....It will probably last, but PC gamers will ***** and moan and complain about how its SOOOoo expensive and it's just wrong to charge more for things.

Kinda like every other consumer in the world.
Umm, yeah it is wrong. You know why console games cost more? Licensing fees. Why the fuck should we have to pay extra for licensing fees that don't even exist? Plus all the $60 games have been the generic overrated pieces of trash anyway...

Most PC games have been 50? for a long time now, basically since euro. Some games though, being more expensive than > 50 ?, skip my interest.

Fine, but, given that it's quite bad, better wait until they drop it. Patience does wonders, if applied carefully.

I think it's likely to stay, but I'd much rather PC games go up to $60 than that they stop being released altogether.

If $60 is too much, wait a month. A good half of what's released is marked down by then.

Hmm, that'll be till they make 3D games, then they'll go to £60.

But you could wait for the price simmer, that happens about after a month.
Almost all AAA game supports 3D now... Nvidia had been very active to promote 3D build-in these days. They really don't like the idea of let's ATI taking the crown again.

You know why they pay $7 to MS, Sony? because they take care the DRM and other thing for you. PC game have to make thier own DRM, and still it is probably the most pirated platform out there (by %).

Wait a minute... Console games are $59.99?
Christ are we getting ripped off over here, a game is ?69.99 here, that's $97.72.

What the hell.
Haha, over here we pay $115 for the newest console games! I actually stopped buying these when they increased from $104 / new game.

Now I only get games on Amazon !

It all depends on if the companies think they can get away with it without causing much of a crop in sales. If you don't like it (like me), don't pay it; its probably here to to stay though, unless they see a really noticeable drop in sales.

How they justify 60 bucks for a 5 hour game ill never know.

I'm not some stupid kid. They're putting out more titles, more often, shorter titles, with wet behind the ears developers who work for peanuts, so the games are buggy as hell, just so their profits year over year can stay even during the recession.

Well I'm watching and I remember. When competition comes back, ill be glad to see the worst offenders hurt.

I'm sure they won't go back down, but I don't agree with it being purely because production cost has gone up. I think they just realized they can get away with the price increase anyway, and almost all of the games in this price-range so-far for PC has made tons of money, that wouldn't have changed if it was at it's previous level.
I'd be willing to bet it's because there is less money being made in the PC game market.
It used to be cheaper because it was easier to put out, since the code was already formatted for PCs, and they are generally easier to code and program games on.

But with the thousands and thousands of pirates, it no longer makes sense to charge less. They need to charge the people who actually pay more, to make up the difference between the 20 thousand people who will steal the game.
Well, atleast we got to page 2 before the old reliable "blame the pirates" nonsense came out. I guess we should expect DS games to increase by $10 too because I hear the piracy on the DS is bad.
10 thousand games pirated, times 50 dollars = 500,000 dollar profit loss.

here are some pirate numbers.
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (4,100,000, Nov. 2009)
2. The Sims 3 (3,200,000, June 2009)
3. Prototype (2,350,000, June 2009)
4. Need For Speed Shift (2,100,000, Sept. 2009)
5. Street Fighter IV (1,850,000, July 2009)

I'm pretty sure 4 million stolen games is more than enough to cause a price change.
HAHAHAHA! As far as the numbers for MW2 goes, that is just sweet, juicy justice for the way Activision and IW have repeatedly fucked PC gamers when it comes to that game.

Once again folks, the cost of producing a product has very little to do with the price. Both Final Fantasy XIII and (insert generic shooter) sold new for $60 but the development costs were certainly very different.

Fast forward to now when the generic shooter is still selling for $60 and Final Fantasy XIII for less.

It's all about what the market can bear, if they think you would pay $100, they would be charging it.

They could, and they do here.
With the current DKR to $, we Danes pay $103,92 for a new game and thats any kind of new game, be it PS3, 360 or PC.
New DVDs once went to the same price, but they have dropped a whole lot.

Yeah, because pirating is easier on PC, plus a lot of console gamers don't even know what pirating is. Unless there is some other method I don't know about, to pirate console games you still have to download it and burn it, while with PC you just have to download it...

Yet you may have a point with piracy on PC, how does that in any way justify the price for PC games being raised by $10. They are pirated more because they don't have licensing fees and have to create their own DRM, so raising the price would...? Stop piracy? Yeah right. High price == higher piracy rate, just look at MW2.
