Just heard this on Fox. Apparently 70% of people living in England, Australia, France, Germany and New Zealand want to, and I quote "Dismantle their health care system and start anew." Yes, I know this is bullshit but I'm curious how people of these nations feel about our media's portrayal of them, especially with all this health care hoo ha going on right now. Funny? Sad? Offensive? Also, do you know any people from any of these countries that actually do want to "dismantle the health care system and start anew."?

Herein lies your problem. I'm a New Zealander and I have no complaints. Sure they could do with more funding but I blame the politicians for that, not the health services.
You might want to add a source if you can find one, by the way.
Our portrayal is probably not very important. Most people haven't heard of us. Yes the are spreading misinformation but I think the presence of other, bigger names does that more effectively than mentioning us.

You must have been watching Hannity. I'd hope people take everything any media says with a grain of salt. Numbers can be created for just about everything. 50% of the people who start reading my post don't finish. See? I'm sure the percentage is higher...

Australia?

Sure the system is all messed up due to a general lack of funding, but 70% wanting to remove it and start fresh?
That seems like bull to me in every way, our system isn't even the same as the UK's.

And then after this they proceeded to tell you how Obama made a pact with the spirit of Lenin through an Islamic ritual to bring communism to America?

Well it was all done fairly quickly. Under the guise of a foreign handshake which, on closer examination, appears to be the elusive "terrorist fist-bump" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-TG6jorKfs].

Everything on Fox is BS. It is not News. Just like MSNBC. The only thing I ever watch for US media is CNN. And even they arent what I call great.

But the problem isnt with them really. It is YOU! The viewer for even watching that shit.

But if FOX news and MSNBC weren't around, whatever would Jon Stewart do?

I live in Australia and the government-subsidised health care system here is actually really bloody good. Not enough staff in public hospitals is the only REAL problem we have. I assure you that this report from Fox is 100% false and that Australians are NOT jumping up and down demanding that people "dismantle the system" over here.

Also there's no health care "hoo-ha" happening in Australia. Nobody in Australia really cares passionately about what happens to the American healthcare system, but a lot of us do look at your system and are very happy we don't live over there. I know that I couldn't afford to get sick in America. I think any change Obama is making is probably good and long overdue, the American healthcare system has been notoriously terrible for a long, long time.

I'm from Australia, and I dislike our public healthcare .... why? Because it could be better. Just like any healthcare initiative in the world ... it could be better.

70% of Australians, British and French etc etc etc say their healthcare is shoddy .... funnily enough that's because 70% of people in the world have a brain that works and can realise that 100% of the healthcare programs in world COULD BE BETTER.

I doubt this has anything to do with the debate about public healthcare vs. privatised healthcare .... although because of the whole healthcare debate with obama, I can understand why American tv programs have brought it up ....

Seriously ... would you really expect someone (i.e ME) ... who gets free health cover for their entire life in the country, to NOT complain saying that the service be improved?

Yes, but how many people in Britain, Austria and France have no health care?

This just in, 70% of all Fox's "news" is propaganda!
The other 30% is interviewing people and acting surprised when they say things.

Well, the free part is the good part.

I would say that the problem with healthcare in general is paying too much to certain members of staff, stuffing their mouths with gold, if you will.

If you pay people in healthcare less, you could hire more of them.
Of course, it's a balancing act, but you've gotta do something...

By Austria, I assume you mean Australia, and by how many people who are without healthcare who are citizens, I will just say 0. That being said, non-citizens do NOT benefit from healthcare programs in Australia, which is a big problem, because these people get sick ... don't go to a doctor ... and infect everybody else.

Not saying that I blame residents and tourists for making us sick, just saying it would be nice if they were either covered by medicare or had the decency to check themselves out before coming here.

You don't go to work sick ... why? Because you're sick and your boss shouldn't have to deal with you infecting the rest of his staff.... common sense <.<

I'll assume by your question it was either rhetorical, or asking us why we complain because we get free health care .... and we complain simply because ... it could be better. I donj't know how to answer it any better :p

Sorry, it is dark and I mistyped. :p I did mean Australia. I guess I need to turn on a damned light. And yes, it was mostly rhetorical. I know that all the citizens in those nations have health care. As it should be. Non-citizens should get no coverage there or in America.

NP :p Nah, non-citizen residents SHOULD get basic medical coverage (perhaps not hospital, but trips to the gp and cheap antibiotics and retrovirals) .... simply because it saves money.

How you ask? Because long-term residents are still workers in the country ... or at the very least associate with workers.

If workers get sick ... then business is stunted. By treating a single person (even at the cost of 1000 dollars of tax revenue) you may end up saving various businesses 10's of thousands from people working as opposed to being sick.

Prevention is better than a cure. Treat the infection BEFORE it spreads.
