A virus is programmed to multiply with complete disregard of the health of the host that the virus inhabits.

So the question is: Do we want to be the global equivalent of a virus, or should we put those fancy skills of adapting to the enviroment to use and thus insure our survival?
We're still got redundant programming from back when we weren't on top of the food chain, breeding like rabbits is one such piece of programming.
If there is ever a catastrophic accident that befalls the entire planet, this'll keep our species alive through sheer volume, if not quality.

Problem is, we weren't programmed to live for so long.
It'll balance out, eventually. We'll slow down, an accident will happen and we'll speed up again.

And how big a chance do you think the species will have to survive AFTER that catastrophe, if the quality of that species has been watered down?

Also, what do you think happen to a virus after all the natural resources it needs to survive (i.e a host body) have been consumed (i.e the host body dies without being able to infect another host body)?

We're not exactly on the brink of being able to colonize other planets as it is now and we're not likely to be able to do so during this coming decade. If we keep multiplying at the rate we're doing now there won't be resources to go round. and we'll kill ourselves as well as the host body (this planet) that we live on in the process.

When I hear such news as this about teenagers ruining their lives, I look up and say...

"Thank you god. Thank you for putting a smart head on these shoulders, so I don't recklessly ruin my life like these kids do. Thank you for giving me the ability to control my self to not commit acts of idiocy."

Even though I'm not very religious, I still shout to the heavens often.

i saw a documentary about this a few years a go (or atleast i think it was this) its a disgrace, i thought my highschool had a lot but my god this is ridiculous
I think you saw the documentary on the pregnancy pact that was made between 18 high school girls in some New England state. This one just happened this school year I believe, if I read the news right.
your right i dont think it was a documentary on this but it was very similar, and it wasnt the one about the pregnancy pact, i actually never saw that (but saw it advertised) the only reason i watch the documentary thing was because it was shown in my psychology class

Wow... just... WOW. There is no way to describe this...

Personally, I think sex has more pros than cons, so I'll probably abstain until marriage. Probably.

I can't help but think it would simoultaneously be hilarious and very sad if all 90 expectant mothers were impregnated by the same person.

From the Article: "So while everything that happens in our communities, it just spills over into our schools. Now we as a community have to deal with them."

Hate to rain on your parade, Mrs. Gatewood, but the girls got knocked up IN their communities. Since when was it the school's responcibility to teach kids about sex? I thought the parents, you know, the people who make up the community, were supposed to do that. The parents teach kids about not using drugs or having unprotected sex or having sex at all, and the school provides them (students and parents) with the hard-core backing as to WHY you don't.

If the community isn't interested in educating their children, then "epidemics" like this are going to continue to happen, and we will forever be stuck in a loop of kids having kids until one of those kids grows up and does the right thing; be a PARENT!

Parents should always teach their kids about Sex before the school. Parents who rely on the school to do it are lazy themselves and shouldnt be suprised if their daughter gets pregnant at 16.

This. It's amazing how many problems in society could be solved by a bit of parental responsibility.

Wow.....

Make fun of me all you want for having a firm belief that premarital is wrong but this is what happens when kids are not taught patience and self control. And Americans still call themselves superior! Sure this happens all the time in 3rd world countries but that's a reason why it's labeled as "3rd world". If America is going to call itself better, than the people shouldn't be doing the same stupid stuff as the people they claim superiority over

Oh goodie more people to suckle on the welfare breast that everyone else pays for. Or if not that more financial assistance that the parents will be giving to their kids as they are already working hard to make ends meet. I love the youth of America.

Shit, and I thought *I* grew up in a school of rabbits.

In my graduating class (hickbilly high) we had 14 pregnancies in a class of 206.
It amounted to roughly 10% of the total female population of my graduating class (with even more who didn't graduate).

Sufficed to say, the requirements for breeding are startlingly low.
Modern Contraception is useless if you don't USE the damn things.

I am 90 percent certain that no such thing as "Religion certified condoms" exists, at least not ones that were certified by any major division of Christianity.

I did not hear of a single pregnancy in my 4 years of highschool in a 1600+ student school. Even the public school down the road did not have many, I only heard of one. That is insane.

I would also like to note that if you went to the health office at my (Catholic) highschool and asked for a condom they would give one to you, well a condom and a speech about how risky pre-marital sex is.

I actually would like to know how many people have actually seen the teen pregnancy shows, that aren't exactly glamorous, heck the one I saw had the girl drop out of school after the fact because of the difficulties associated with being a parent, not that I would put it past some people to not take a hint and get knocked up anyway.

OT-ish: Actually what is genuinely sad is that none probably understand what goes into having a kid, at my school, there are girls who act like being pregnant is some sort of fashion statement (yeah I don't get it either), friend of mine goes to a school where there are girls who try to get pregnant so their boyfriends won't leave them, it infuriates me to no end that they are willing to be that selfish to drag down the lives of two people because of their needs. I would hope that isn't the case with this school, but then again I have very little faith in humanity period.
