This is just sad, you're creating baggage for you child. I mean anything that was posted on that page stays on the internet forever. Imagine trying to make a name for yourself on any internet community when such a page exists. You'd be that guy with the baby facebook.

Yeah, I'm radically opossed to the whole social networking thing, since I see just how much bad it can do with regards to privacy, and I don't think it's balanced with the benefits. To force babies into this is just sad, it's like forcing them into religion, only this stays with them forever whether they want it or not.

wow, that sounds real, you know because of the numbers and that sign that means that it is fact.

also, when you are 2 you are no longer a baby, and its not that they have a facebook profile, its that most parents share pictures and information about their offspring online, so no i dont find that scary, with most people keeping in touch with people via social sites like facebook it makes perfect sense to send family and friends pictures of your kid online.

the guy misunderstood the research, its that people share info about their kids online, you know like pictures and that they stood up for the first time today, seems like completely normal things to share with people you know.

84% of statistics are made up.
Seriously though, how did they get this statistic? Look up every two year old in America and look if they have a facebook page?

From some of the sources I'm finding, the claim being made by the study is very different that what's described above. The study claims that 82% of children under the age of 2 have an online presence (92% in the United States). They define "online presence" as having photos posted onto a social networking site. This is vastly different from 92% of children in the United States having a Facebook profile.

AVG questioned 2,200 mothers.

how they did this and they know that they were mothers with two-year old children might be simpler than first thought however it does seem valid coming from a somewhat reliable source even though the method (most likely via survey) and sample size might be rather sketchy.

go for the one that is more detailed and is less mainstream media.

That makes sense, since the same people I mentioned who have kids can't resist the urge to put every fucking picture of baby's milestones on the Internet.

"Oooh, baby walked today! Here's baby eating applesauce! Here's little toddler taking a shit! Smile for Grandma, baby!" (though I shouldn't take the piss, because my brother does this to let Mom know her grandson's doing well and it makes her day.)

I don't see why those parents can't use their own Facebook for pictures?
I don't mind that much unless my child will get in that situation but that won't happen anytime soon I bet :p

Seems high...

Still, I'm inclined to believe it happens alot. You know how parents are with their young children, so now they put the photos on facebook instead of swamping your inbox with them...not a big change.

I'm calling zombie bullshit on that one. I'm guessing that 50% of American babies don't have parents that have a computer, let alone internet, let alone facebook, let alone 92%.

Now comes the question: why?!
from source said:
When asked what motivates parents to post images of their babies on the Internet, more than 70 percent of all mothers surveyed said it was to share with friends and family. However, more than a fifth (22%) of mothers in the US said they wanted to add more content to their social network profiles, while 18 percent of US mothers said they were simply following their peers.
they've beaten you too it :p

My friend's baby just got one and he is only 2 months old. His gf put it up and he promises it will be deleted within the month!
But yeah it's mental... tho i did make one for my dog to win an argument but that was more for comic relief.

well, thats a fake percentage... considering nowhere near 92% of americans even have computers, let alone the internet, or facebook accounts.

and if any two year olds out there DO have facebook pages, its kind of weird and pointless. i mean, who are their friends on there? their siblings and grandparents?

Obviously this was a sardonic statement but I do find it worrying how many young children _are_ on this site and their parents think it's perfectly ok.

This was the arguement I gave my sister when she said she was going to make me a Facebook page:
Facebook does strange things to people. I think this is all the proof I need...
