Considering how the PS3 version includes a copy of the PC version, and how Valve is against DRM (other than Steam, which most people don't seem to mind) it'd make a lot of sense that they'd release it early for the PC. If they have the same release date for PS3 and PC the PS3 version is a better deal since you can just play it on PC and sell the PS3 disc. If they release it a week(end) early for PC, the all those impatient PC gamers that planned to buy the PS3 version will have a choice to either save money or get it now.

No, not an early release. Valve aren't known for releasing games early. Quite the opposite.

Digital distribution is superior anyway
I disagree with you, and I know I can't be the only one. But the thing is, you are indefinatly wrong on this particular case, because if you get the PS3 version, you get portal 2 for Steam free anyhow... I know you'll argue with me, so lay it on me.

[small] I like boxes and manuals, so what? and yes, I'm aware not everyone has a PS3, but heres some food for thought (Hope I don't get in trouble for saying this) one could buy the PS3 version, use the PC code, and trade the game back in.... just saying [/small]

I wont argue with you, because this really is just an opinion versus opinion, preference versus preference issue. I personally prefer digital distribution because I am terrible and lose my discs, boxes and manuals all the time and a perminant digital copy cannot be lost.

I don't think I've ever seen that lingual construct before. So... he is vaguely and abstractly wrong?

If Steam Purchasers get their version earlier, I'd say that makes it better. If the PS3 users and Steam users get their versions earlier, that'd make the PS3 unconditionally better.

Holy cow, you just blew my mind, an escapee who doesn't want to argue? *Explodes*

Ahem, yeah, you're right, thats one good thing, I take care of my stuff. Not saying you don't... ugh.. you know what I mean. I do like steam though, i wish most PC games were Steam from CD install... but I doubt that day with ever come.

Spell check didn't give me the word I wanted, so I left it as it was... I'm keeping that word now, you made it awesome for me.

Yeah right, since when does Valve release anything early? And even if they were going to release it early, who releases a game early if it's only four days before planned anyway?

It's like saying, hey everyone! We originally planned to give away free ice cream on Friday, but we've decided to move it up to Monday. Wooo.

I move allot, (move from house to house :p) and you know how things go when you move, things get lost, broken or what-not.

BUT ANYWAY, back on topic. Just recently, people who have earned 35 potatoes from the Valve Potato Sack ARG have had their icon replaced with a 'golden potato' icon, which leads me to the possibility that only those with the 'golden potato' may get Portal 2 early?

Seems strange and limiting, but again it's just speculation. I just get the sense that Steam Preorders are likely, if anything, to get it early...

AGAIN, all speculation

I'll say it again: Very unlikely to happen. It would pretty much piss off everyone who hadn't preordered through steam... or that booked days off of work to play... etc.

I'd be chuffed if it did but I don't see it happened at all. It's too big of a thing. Too much money and time put into the release. If the "golden potato" users get it early then I would be annoyed since it would basically be "pay £25 to get Portal 2 a week early!"

Valve releasing games early?

I... I don't understand.
I'm actually tearing up a little right now... it... its beautiful...

If Portal 2's delay and early release were to be transformed to the genius of Lost, and condensed to 30 seconds, the entire process would look like this:

I'm actually tearing up at the thought of it... it... its beautiful...

*sniff*

Is this really so big a deal?
Well it is for me... I'm busy from tuesday (release day) straight through till the monday after release. If it comes out on friday then I have all weekend to enjoy the game before my busy week.

Knowing Valve's habits, it's not going to be released early. It's a countdown to when they're going to delay it again.

Calling it right now. No matter what happens we'll all go on with our lives within the next few weeks.

I think Valve releasing a game early is perhaps equivalent to.... Fuck, i got nothin'.

No shit, most of the evident adult-children that inhabit the Escapist live in the present.
