Side scrolling platformers (I know Mario and DK just got remakes, but I want more newer ones)
Might want to look into a boy and his blob, Sonic 4, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Muramasa: The Demon Blade*, Limbo, Megaman 9 and 10, 'Splosion Man, Dorito's Crash Course, Super Meat Boy, Rocket Knight, Cave Story*, Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril**

I'm aware that a good number of these are existing franchises--which I guess you have a problem with, due to the "I want more newer ones" statement, but they are worth looking into. For the record, NSMBW and DKC Returns are new games, not remakes (a boy and his blob is the only remake mentioned in this post), and both are good. In fact, the new Donkey Kong is easily one of my favorite games. Check it out!

*These are really Metroidvanias, but the genres are closely related.
**This, I kid you not, is a new game for the NES. How cool is that?
Gonna go look into each of those now, wasn't aware there was so many though alot seem like they're likely for the Wii and as I don't own one is likely the reason I wasn't aware of them.

As for the new NES one, that is more then cool.... it's pure awesomeness.

Here, I'll save you some time. Donkey Kong, Mario, Kirby, a boy and his blob, and Muramasa are all Wii exclusive. If you ever get a Wii, check these out.

Sonic 4, Megaman 9, Megaman 10 are available on XBLA, PSN, and Wiiware

Rocket Knight is on XBLA, PSN, and Steam

Super Meat Boy is on XBLA and Steam

Cave Story is available on PC and Wiiware...there's a six year gap in release dates, I'm not sure if there were any major changes on the Wii version.

Dorito's Crash Course, 'Splosion Man, and Limbo are exclusive to Xbox Live Arcade (and Dorito's Crash Course is free!)

and, since it will be the hardest to track down, here's battle kid's trailer

and, if you like what you see and have something that can play it, here's where you can order a copy.

I kind of want more adventure games ala Return to Zork. Amnesia was GREAT cause it was that plus survival horror. :3 It was like a godly PB&J!

I would say JRPGs, but let's face it, I mean Final Fantasy. With Resonance of Fate, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, not to mention all the remakes on the PSP and DS, it really is doing absolutely fine. Plus, Versus XIII looks amazing anyway.

Back on topic: Run and gun. What happened to Metal Slug?
People got consoles. I would love to see run and gun too, only problem is keeping it long enough to justify spending $80 on it AND varied enough not to bore you to death. Also I want a new AFTERBURNER game!

I would love nothing more than to see Wing Commander get a proper reboot, or hell even a Space Combat Game set in the Mass Effect universe, that would be awesome.
Seconded

Thirded
OT: I can't remember what that Genre was called exactly but....whatever Commandos and Desparados was. I mean Tactical Squad based Action strategy. If that makes sense. those were awesome, great combination if brains and reflexes.

Classic 2D RPGs, like Diablo, Baldur's Gate, Zelda 1, Final Fantasy 1-6, Arcanum, Chrono Trigger, Icewind Dale, & Secret of Mana.

PCAs is slooowly making a comeback, but TellTale is the only one I know of who's making them.

FMVs are made maybe once a year. The only genre using them is HOGs, like Mystery Case Files.

RPG's.

I don't mean like Fallout 3 or something.

But full on, full party RPG's! Stuff like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale.

I mean Dragon Age is good, but it follows such a simple formula (Tank + Healer + Mage) plus the fact that you have a very small party size compared to BG.

As popular as MMO's have gotten, I'd expect a Star Wars MMO to rake in huge cash. I'm an MMO hater (pointless grind, no reward, have to interact with people... lots of reasons) but if a Star Wars MMO allowed a pilot character type and a space sim where you could fly escort, or transport, or pirate in open space... I'd be there. I'd be there on day one.
I hate to break this to you, but, it exists, and it blows chunks. :( It didn't always suck. It was cool once, then the boys with the coding decided to rehash how the system of the game worked, and broke it, causing a mass exodus that very month.

It has to exist... post beta. I must re-iterate that I'm an MMO-hater and not like to jump on a beta-train. And if you are talking about that silly on-rails combat system, that does not even get close to counting. Rogue Squadron games were too "on-rails" for me. I'm talking free spaceflight sim. Alliance, XvT, Starlancer, ect. Anything less wouldn't even be on my radar.

Another Commandos game. Top-down strategy action with a few key playable characters. Commandos 2 was the best in the series and was always great fun.

Space Flight Sims. Much like the others in this thread have stated.

Also: For your Star Wars cravings, keep an eye on this.

Old-school survival horror. Deadly Premonition feels like a step in the right direction but I'd love to see more.

I'm talking about Star Wars Online. It was WAY past beta. Look it up. :) It sucks (but it didn't always).

Please tell me you've been introduced to Amnesia: The Dark Decent. It's a title that gets said here a lot, so if you've spent much time in the forums at all, you've had to have heard of it. Amnesia is, bar none, the scariest game that has ever been made. And I don't exaggerate that.

The games I miss the most are the point-and-click adventure games. Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest, Gabriel Knight, Maniac Mansion, and a ton of others. Companies like the Adventure Company have been trying to keep the genre alive, but most of their games are junk. Thankfully, the Monkey Island and Sam & Max updates that have been released recently are breathing new life into adventure gaming's rotting carcass.
I'd also like to see space flight sims and the MechWarrior series return.
