One of the most popular games of all time.
One of the largest and most influencial game corporations on earth.
A newly released classic version, already the most downloaded thing on PSN.
A collection of successful spin-off games.
A franchise of Final Fantasy which has already re-released up to IV.

Surely with this kind of record and the market research at hand, we can predict the heavy internal debate of a remake- whether it be positive or negative, the louder the public call the easier we are to hear.

So Escapist, overlooking the high potential for a similar existing topic, share with us your thoughts and any evidence into cracking this volatile market issue.

No, No, NOOOOO

FF VII has made enough money and spin offs, they should focus on OH i dont know making the next one better,

Sure its 'Classic' but no remakes please, im up for expanding universes and a little bit more of the story but FF VII has been milked way too much

Are we talking about re-makes in general or just FFVII?

If it's the first, then i can say i'm glad they're wii-making (yes they call it that) the first two metroid prime games. I've never played metroid before i got Prime 3 for the wii, and it was really great.
I tried to look for the previous 2 games for my GC, but then i came across an article saying that they would be re-made for the wii with motion controlls and slightly updated graphics, and released as a trilogy (along with 3) at the end of this year.

I'm really looking forward to it. Prime 3 was a really good game, and the controlls we're amazing, so i guess it's worth it to wait for the updated versions of 1 and 2.

Hope you wanted to talk about remakes in general and not just FFVII

*tries to imagine Final Fantasy VII with the current 'Action-oriented' combat system...*

On one hand that sounds kind of cool.
On another, I'm pretty good and tired of Final Fantasy VII.
At it's time, yes it was a great game with a cool story (it was cool because until then it hadnt been done to DEATH as it is now, since that type of story and storytelling is almost a staple template for every RPG thats been made over the past 10 years.

I hope to hell they do remake it, I would happily shill the cash its what we wanted since the PS3 was bloody announced not all this bollochs spinoff crap. Same game, same engine better visuals/sharper audio they would make a killing.

Just do it Square remake it, polish it with abit more content, end the Final Fantasy series which has went rapidly downhill since 9 and go back to being good i.e. make a new bahamuts lagoon maybe? No? Fan can dream atleast.

As much as I would like a FF7 remake, I wont lose any sleep over it. Quite frankly I just think it's one of those games to be either left untouched or remade for only the hand helds.

I couldn't put it any better myself.

Remakes are bad. Theres no need for remakes. Remakes cost money and time when that money and time could be used to do new and better things.

Stop living in the past and move on.

well come on, I like this look:

Better than this look:

The anime/kingdom hearts look has more character to it and fits FF7 a whole lot better. The jaw dropping PS3 graphics are great, but the more anime'ish look gives off a better level of emotion and characterization that realism can rarely acheive for a game like this.

I have been sitting in the corner in the fetal position for the past few months muttering "it's almost here...my precious", waiting in agony for it's arrival. OK no not really, but dammit I wish I didn't have to wait so damn long...at least the north american version is getting added content.

More than likely, it will be remade to a portable. PSP or DS. Hopefully occurring after VI.

I felt VI was vastly superior to VII. Probably because a simple analysis reveals the two to be practically the same story.

Well when it comes state side you can simply import it, PSP's are region free after all. i doubt the UK will get a different version than the rest of the world. Hell I would have imported the Jap version but I wanna understand whats going on lol, well that and the localized version gets added content W00t...*crosses fingers for Japanese voice option DLC*

Personally I think it's better to let FF7 lie and move on with the series and try something new, which I've felt has always been FF's strong point. As of now Square just seems to like faffing about milking it's old franchises (how long have we waited for FF13?).

If you keep re-making and re-vising an old franchise instead of doing something new and original, y'know what you get? That's right, STAR WARS.

My question is why does it need a remake? Improve the graphics? Make it more accessible and less rare? Change up the stroy and the gameplay mechanics? Changing the first isn't necessary. If you can't handle the blocky graphics then you don't deserve to play it. Psn has already fixed #2. And if you start messin with the rest well then it wouldn't be a remake and you might as well make a new IP.
