Yes. Yes you can.

Alpha Protocol as well, except for a handful of boss fights, allows you to make it through the game either stealthing past enemies, or taking them out non-lethally. The game even has a meter for measuring the amount of medical bills you cost others. One of the game's real downfalls, in fact, were those forced boss fights, which were nearly impossible with a stealth-based character.

You don't actually kill anyone, as far as I know, as I'm not sure if it's possible at all.
Much like The Dark Knight film, you're just egged on by The Joker as he tries to get you to kill him, or someone else.

Rebecca Mayes included that facet in one of her songs.

There is nothing special in laying waste to everyone in a game. At some point, it just takes you out of the game and makes you wish it was a little more believable.

Sorry to disappoint you but not every gamer is as obsessed with racking a huge bodycount that you seem to be.

There are quite a few games where it's possible if not even desirable to avoid killing and even complete the game non-violently such as:

Planescape torment
Fallout 1 & 2
Metal Gear 1, 2, solid & solid 2 (excepting bosses)
Metal Gear Solid 3, 4 & 2's snake tales (including most bosses)

and that's not Even mentioning all the games that are non-violent by their very nature.

Having said all that however in stealth I tend to kill guards in order to reduce the risk of being seen but even then only if they would be a possible threat and I don't have any means/It would be inefficient to render them unconscious.

No, you have to kill 3 people.

Well, if you exploit bugs, only one person, but the other two count as dead, and the game still acts like you killed them.

OT: I was gonna suggest Deus Ex as well, and the Metal Gear rising is looking more and more interesting.

I once did a Dead Rising pacifist run?

I'm not exactly sure how the new MGS giving the character a capacity for pacifism is at all new or groundbreaking, it's far from being the first game to do this.

I didnt say it was a revoultionary idea, just a strange one given the abilities you have and the amount of effort they put into combat.

Ummm, correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you go through pretty much all the MGS games without killing any of the normal enemies? You know, just using stealth and tranquiliser darts to get past guards.
Not the first one its just too hard the engine is different and its more important to run though the levels than "sneak" as we think it and sound doesn't matter.

Was I the only one slightly surprised by the supposed "number of orphans" statistic after missions?

I killed 3 people and created 109 orphans?? Holy crap, how do these terrorists have the time to threaten the world when they are constantly conceiving children?

OT: With a little difficulty it could be done on Fallout 3 since if someone really needed to be killed you could get a companion to do it.

I like it. It gives you a different way to play the game, and it'll give me a lot more replay value than any number of multiple endings would.
I like that thought...

Also your avatar is epic.

You can complete Splinter Cell: Conviction without killing anyone I think. Apart from the people you HAVE to kill of course.

There's an achievment in mirrors edge for it. Though it's not difficult, in harder difficulties it's a pain in the ass

I thought as much.

It's fun giving that game to people who play normal FPS's, and watching them kill everyone, then get killed themselves.

Or, if they do complete the level, watching them recoil in horror at their pitifully low score and say "But I killed everyone!"

Hehehhe...
It's not as much fun though when you're playing coop with these people and they murder everyone they see, including hostages.
Gaah.
