In Theif 1&2 you fail if you kill anyone on the hardest difficulty setting.

I've done all of the fallout games without killing anyone, even Fallout 3 if you don't count the one radroach it forces you to kill in the tutorial.

Arkanum can also be done without ever killing anyone.

You don't have to kill anyone to get through Deus Ex though it's pretty bloody hard.

Mirror's Edge, I guess... also Professor Layton and the Curious Village/Diabolical Box... there are lots of deaths except you don't actually kill anyone.

Portal (and probably Portal 2)

Oh and Batman:Arkham Asylum, though that's kind of a cheat in a way. Also it is a little suspect sometimes.

*Batman kicks a henchmen over a railing into a bottomless pit*

"Umm...Did Batman just kill that dude?"
*sploosh*
"No, wait, he fell into some water that's so far down I couldn't even see it"

Seriously, there is a little water sound effect to make it clear that you haven't killed the enemies, just knocked them into water. It's a nice touch, even if knocking an unconscious person into water will almost certainly result in them drowning. Or just dying on impact, given how far they've fallen.

If it's possible to kill things in a game, I will :p
Don't think I'd be too interested in doing a no-kill run unless there was something rewarding enough for me to do so.

I've finished Oblivion's main quest without killing anyone. My npc friends (and occasionally summoned guard creatures), though, is another story.
Also, Pure and Dead or Alive 4 don't require you to kill anyone.

I acualy respect a game in which I get that kind of option, in games like HL2 I try to see just how few enemies I have to kill to get from point A to point B. Which understandably dosn't often go very well.

PS: Does it count if I have a henchman to do all the killing?

If you work hard, you really don't need to kill people, hell I went a entire run fighting people bare handed .

Why?

Because it's showed off how strong you off.

You can get your follower to kill everything in Fallout 3 but really thats obeying the letter of the law not the spirit.

Dead Rising and proably Dead Rising 2, although sitting scared in the saferoom is not all that entertaining.

EDIT:

Almost every Point and Click is like this. You don't have to kill anyone, and you don't die. It's all for the story and puzzles.

It's a lot more fun than it sounds.

Also, Swat 4. I never finished it though, so you might have to at one point, but I believe you can just arrest every suspect and not kill any of them.
Near the very end you have to take on some people who are against animal research and cloning who have decided to attack a collage campus. And there is at least 5 people who are programed not to surrender, so you really cant not kill everyone but you can come close.

Lol you can tell half the people don't read the question, and Portal you kill the most important thing in the game...your only friend. But just because the original question is boring I'll join in naming a game...pitfall and the mario (or was it donkey kong?) with the barrels rolling down the ramps lol.

Fallout 3 is impossible to complete the game without killing anything, because you HAVE to kill the Radroach in Vault 101 when you get the BB Gun.

I'm rather impressed with myself, I managed to beat Guitar Hero 2 while only killing three people! Impressive, eh?

In most of the Original Splinter Cell games you can do that. I know because I have succeeded in doing it :)

Metal Gear Solid Rising is coming out soon. And people have been itching to play as a sword wielding stealthy cool guy. But Konami has now stated that it is possible to play through the ENTIRE game without killing ANYONE.

This is absolutely bizarre to me. They hand you a kickass sword, some amazing abilities and now they say "You know you don't have to use them, right?"
I know it's MGS and stealth is a big part of it, but should could you resist all the oppertunites to wreak havoc on unsuspecting enemies?

I don't think I could, but what about you guys?

EDIT: To get specific, you can slice weapons and hands and still get away with it. So you can still fight.
Yeah, i could. Here's how i make sense of it.

It's build around Stealth except for boss fight. Kojima always plan 2 different approach. The gun-ho that leave you with A depleting stockpile of rations and ammunitions, a few wounds and bad ranking at the end. The other way is the stealth way. There's only one way, one time, one place you need to be to avoid detection. You get a better feeling of accomplishment from; finding the right way (like a Point-and-click game solution), from beating the guards and from Kojima at beating him to his own game.

I love so much the stealth in that series that i can't get myself to play with any other way.

I don't know if this counts but you could complete Ikaruga wihtout firing any shots at the standard enemies or the bosses. I would love to say I have done this but it would be a lie...That games just too hard.

If there is an achievement for it, count me in. If not, i'll be killing everyone I see.
If MGS4 Is any indication, there will be one. If not, there's always the one the game give you (as in, it won't be featured on your X-box account) at the end. It judge you on your performance, often calling the sneakiest in order;Big Boss, Solid Snake, Fox Hound, Fox....
And the gun-ho like: Rat, Dog, Parakeet, Wasp.

Your not a wasp, are you?

Personally I like the approach that Fallout and Fallout 2 had to this: you could go through the entire games without killing a single living thing (with the exception of the final bosses, and there were even ways around that), or you could kill absolutely everyone. And I must say, the latter is awfully tempting.
