That's the very idea behind the Metal Gear series and why it became so popular.

(I know I've been ninja'd but who cares)

Myst. It's a puzzle game where you explore this mysterious island and there's not a single hint of violence and no way to actually "die" in the game.

Also, Swat 4. I never finished it though, so you might have to at one point, but I believe you can just arrest every suspect and not kill any of them.
"You're in my way sir"
"You're in my spot sir"
"Get out of my way sir"
"Sir you're in my spot"

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU... Someone will be dying in a minuet.

OT: But yes, I would say this is a game where you can go around a kill everyone (which is a bad thing) but it is better to run around with paintball guns filled with tear gas pellets instead. Although I resorted to putting bullets through everyones heads. It was quite annoying.

In Soldier of Fortune, you can shoot the gun out of their hand.
Being a pacifist in Soldier of Fortune is kind of an oxymoron. Biggest selling point of the game was the different hit locations on a target and appropriate damage for each location.

I've beat the computer in Civilisation using a purely pacifist civilisation before. It onvolved a lot of speaking softly and some fucking HUGE sticks.

Black and White can also be completed peacefully though it is incredibly difficult and people will often die as a result of your inaction.

Mount & Blade is probably doable without violence if you trade for your money then spend most of it paying for an incredibly intimidating entourage and good path finders for running away.

Really any game that claims to have complex moral choices should probably include this option or make it VERY dramatic when your freedom not to kill your fellow man is taken away.

Did Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines allow for a no-killing playthrough? I guess if you never drain anyone dry and use a lot of stealth it might be possible... I think there were bosses that were asking for it though...

If there is an achievement for it, count me in. If not, i'll be killing everyone I see.
If MGS4 Is any indication, there will be one. If not, there's always the one the game give you (as in, it won't be featured on your X-box account) at the end. It judge you on your performance, often calling the sneakiest in order;Big Boss, Solid Snake, Fox Hound, Fox....
And the gun-ho like: Rat, Dog, Parakeet, Wasp.

Your not a wasp, are you?
possibly... lol.

Almost every Point and Click is like this. You don't have to kill anyone, and you don't die. It's all for the story and puzzles.

It's a lot more fun than it sounds.

Also, Swat 4. I never finished it though, so you might have to at one point, but I believe you can just arrest every suspect and not kill any of them.
You're right, you can make it all the way through SWAT 4 without killing anyone. It's harder, but it's possible.

Portal.

Also, technically Batman: Arkham Asylum. You knock everyone out but don't actually kill them.

(of course, all these psychos who you're being so careful with are killing people left and right, but you don't kill anyone... :)

More recently, Alien Swarm. You kill plenty of aliens, but no people.

(Unless you suck at avoiding friendly fire).

Ummm, correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you go through pretty much all the MGS games without killing any of the normal enemies? You know, just using stealth and tranquiliser darts to get past guards.
In the first game you kill pretty much everyone if you want to take them down, unless you're willing to just punch them in the face. Stealth kills break their necks and there are no tranqs.
Well in the first game on the Playstation anyway bar the bosses you don't have to kill a single person in the game which is the point the person is making. You can stealth through the entire game no one is forcing you to kill them although the introduction of Tranquilizers makes this much easier.

There are so, SO many. Alot mentioned already that I've not played, also every sports game ever conceived, along with racing games, casual games, music games (guitar hero and the like, as well as audiosurf etc.) Building games like simcity (sims included), black and white.

The only genre's that do see alot of that are just FPS's and RTS's, and RPG's too I guess. But even then theres exceptions, like SWAT or games that just have you killing monsters.

Anyway, there's already 3 pages of replies, so I don't think anyone cares anymore. Bye.

You can play Iji without killing anyone, but you need to think outside of the box to do it. Also, playing a pacifist medic on America's Army (2.8.5) was how I get promoted quickly.

I don't think it's coming out for PS3 but if you manage to complete it, post your ranking at the end.

Batman:AA (but to be honest its more due to batman not killing because they never wake up and you do beat them into a pulp and break limbs)
Portal
Plants vs Zombies (they are zombies!)
