HRRGGGHHH I AM SO MANLY & FUCKING MUSCLY TIME TO PUNCH A BOULDER!
Sadly thats true about the boulder punch, ending to Resident Evil 5 anyone.

OT: So your upset that mortal Kombat is doing this? Where have you been lately?
Yea its pretty bad on both sides. As my friend likes to point out his biceps are as big as his head.

OT: I believe that mortal combat's main audiance is immature so they try to be.

You know, I've said in the past that the games industry lacks maturity and consideration for internal consistency within our stylized representation of reality.

But today I take it all back when I saw this video on GamesTrailers.com:

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/mileena-trailer-mortal-kombat/709299

I cant believe that I ever considered that AAA games could insult women on a grandiose scale.

This character is clearly the modern presentation of a strong confident female character being shown her rightful place in the social order.

What am I saying? I don't need to tell you dear reader: it's obvious and self-evident to any rational thinking mind.

Just listen to the descriptions of her origins as 'Created in the flesh pits...' as we all know that is where women are born. See her bestial animalistic nature, a mirror like portrait of the female mind, and her costume; designed to blind her opponent with her beautifully crafted feminine form rather than defend her untoned and muscled body in the midst of mortal combat, such as that which silly plates of armour would. And of course, lets not forget her relationship with her male peers; see her languidly lie down at the feet of the enthroned and armoured male, showing her in her rightful place.

Granted, it?s not totally accurate; they did forget the kitchen and apron, but it?s a game after all, we expect total realism.

No one wants that.

From this day forth, let no one ever say 'The games industry employs twelve year old boys to design its games' for if they do, we have game trailers such as these to correct them.

[For the record: this IS sarcasm, I'm disgusted, I'm 26, male, a games designer, and I want to crush someone?s skull for this...this...thisness...]
So...It's bad...For bad guys...To do bad things?

Anyway, totally with Miracle of Sound on this one. MK has been shock content since its inception. Have trouble giving a damn.

Watching the trailer, I was far more annoyed that Mileena and Kitana are still basically just color swaps of each other. The ninjas are decently varied in design nowadays.
Yeah Scorpion, Reptile and Sub-Zero have grown past being simple palette swaps. shoot Scorpion became one of the most popular / well known game character just from one simple phrase. I know the guys working on this still have some time to refine things and I hope they make Kitana's attacks more elegant while Mileena should fight dirty and more savagely. I always been a fan of MK and MK9 is a step in the right direction they just need to not go ape shit with the clones.

This thread made me laugh. It's Mortal Kombat dude, we don't care. As people have said the men are just as "disrespectful" in the game.

I'm all for equality and most of my friends are women, but sometimes things like this are just meant for entertainment, don't take it seriously. I would actually be more annoyed if one of my beloved franchises stopped being so ridiculous and over the top.

I see a lot of "stereotyping" in games today but most of the time it's necessary. How would a heavily violent war game be without a muscly guy? It's just more believable in that scenario.

Heavy Rain is a good example. It more realistic characters since it's meant to be a very grounded in reality game. The main female in that you may think for a moment is overly sexualized, but that can be a commentary on society if you look at it in a certain way. Since she uses her "advantages" to get into certain places etc. it says a lot more for the men in the game rather than the women, no?

You do known that that is literally her character, and only applies to her. She isn't a woman, she's a beast, she was created in the flesh pits, she is controlled only by that one dark lord, and no one in Mortal Kombat, including the men, wears any sort of sensible armour.

Do your research, please. Then you don't look quite so wrong.

I dunno, I've had a few exes with all her warmth and charm in the past.
They dress like like they want to be looked at and then tear your eyes out if you do.
Just another facet of the feminine mystery.

The very fact that someone has already been offended by this game makes me think they're finally getting it right.

*pours ya a big ol' glass of calm down juice*

Seriously, stop looking for social equality in everything, particularly things aimed at just having fun. Also, you might wanna take a look at movies, music, books and just about every single other bloody piece of medium or widely available social commentary. When you're done doing that, check out the way men are represented within the same genres and then if you're still stuck on that one image of a gal from Mortal combat, go ahead and browse aggressive feminist sites for about 5 minutes or so.

TLDR
Equality goes both ways. The best way to aim for it is to not give too much of a crap about the whole deal and just deal with things on their own merit rather than blame something bigger for a single incident because it makes you seem "tolerant".

It's Mortal fucking Kombat.

If it weren't offensive in multiple ways it would have no reason to exist.
I just want to say that, I was planning to get into a long tirade about how it's MK, and thus tongue-in-cheek and generally not ment to be taken seriously... but you said it so much better that... well. Well played. My hat's off to you.

It's Mortal Kombat. Anyone who comes into it looking to be sexually aroused has problems, because we all know the only reason we play mortal kombat its to freeze people and rip heads off.

If you want to do something then fucking change it yourself. No offense to your skills as a game designer but have you made a best selling game? Mortal Kombat is MEANT to offend. Its one of the reason we have a fucking rating system now. How about you complain about something that doesn't go out of its way to find insane ways to kill someone by ripping out their spine or throwing their skull at their freshly frozen body to shatter it. Also the fact that shes not actually human kills any argument about it being a defacement of woman considering how 90% of the fighters in MK aren't human.
*EDIT*
Go look up the storylines of the characters in Blaz Blu and tell me that fighting games cannot have ridiculous character back stories. 1 of the fucking characters WAS a detective. He studied a case SO hard he became a colony of BUGS. Yes that is one of the characters ACTUAL back stories.
Well, he studied a MAGICAL case so hard he turned into a MAGICAL colony of BEEEEEEEEEEEES.
Get yer facts straight! :)

Mileena isn't supposed to be fully human, and I don't know why her being birthed in the flesh pits would somehow mean the game developers are stating that's where all women are created.
