Just listen to the descriptions of her origins as 'Created in the flesh pits...' as we all know that is where women are born.
Mileena isn't supposed to be fully human, and I don't know why her being birthed in the flesh pits would somehow mean the game developers are stating that's where all women are created.
I thought Flesh Pit was another name for lady garden..?

Hah, I like how OP didn't even bother to respond to the rest of the thread. A half-hearted rant about sexism in a MK game did seem like a good way to make a thread that gets a lot of responses but.

You're 26 and you act like this is your first time ever seeing Mortal Kombat.

God, my browser nearly crashed from the pretentiousness.

It's Mortal Kombat. It's disgusting in every way and you're bitching about lack of respect for women? What the hell is wrong with people these days...

Why doesn't anyone want to remake Battle Arena Toshinden? Seriously.

As for mortal Kombat, it came out in an era of video games when blood was the big taboo. It aimed at the lowest common denominator and has since been trying to maintain some kind of relevancy in that regard ever since. Unless you're a fan, you won't much care for it, there's plenty of better fighting games out there and with much more class than MK ever strives for. As for the objectification of women, I draw your attention to the infamous "jiggle factor" of DOA. Sex sells, MK smells (of crusty old blood) and this sort of thing should make you laugh.

Someone whines about Mileena in Mortal Kombat and doesn't whine about Orchid from Killer Instinct? (Personally, I like KI better than MK. However, both are awesome games.)

As a certain Woren friend of mine once said...

"Don't this just beat all?"

I can also show you dozens of intelligent and well-designed female characters (Faith from Mirror's Edge, April and Zoe from The Longest Journey series, Carla from Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit). See how this works?
One character doesn't define an industry and most people recognize that (if they acknowledge the games industry at all, but I digress). If you're looking for deep characters look for them, as I think we all know no one will find anything deep or mature in a Mortal Kombat game (and to be honest, I don't expect or even want that from a Mortal Kombat game).
Fighting games are notoriously shallow character wise. Because they don't have to be anything but a good fighting system. Everything else is bells and whistles for them.

You realize that Mileena is anything BUT a depiction of a strong female character? she's a pseudo-sentient being created by an incredibly evil person.

The manner in which she's dressed is almost traditional for this character.

You fail @ knowing MK. Forever.

Want a strong, female character? How about Sonya Blade...

Wait, you're a game developer? How could a game developer know so little about games...

So...much..out...of...context!

And honestly, you're surprised that there is a scantily clad woman in a fighting game. In fucking Mortal Kombat no less? And you design games? Like Flash Games or...
I want to see more buxom, scantily clad female avatars in Farmville, and more child-like, bobble-head Wii-type characters in Mortal Kombat.

"Harvest them!"

"You have lost 3 lbs battling Scorpion!"

First off, it's Mortal Kombat, second off it's Mortal fucking Kombat. This is a game where every man is ripped to all hell and can probably bench press an aircraft carrier. Men and women are overly done.

Also have you ever heard of a succubus? That's kinda what it looks like to me

If it weren't offensive in multiple ways it would have no reason to exist.

Focus your rage on a game like Heavy Rain that was meant to be all high-brow and clever but still resorted to having a lady gyrating in her panties in the trailer.

Or Red Dead Redemption, whose adult and 'mature' story was at odds with its cliched and borderline racist stereotyping of the Irish, Mexicans and French.
You mean nationalistic stereotyping of the Irish, Mexicans and French? As those three arent races.

OT: It's Mortal Combat, what do were you expecting anyways?

Who the fuck is turned on by Mileena, seriously. Freakish teeth kind of diminish the humanity aspect, so unless you're going to complain that Voldo is offensive, find a better poster-child for misogny, you won't need to look far.

*facepalm*

It's not sarcasm if you're pretending to be disgusted and actually are disgusted...

And for the record, it's Mortal Kombat.

Mortal. Kombat.

We clear now?

I just want to say that, I was planning to get into a long tirade about how it's MK, and thus tongue-in-cheek and generally not ment to be taken seriously... but you said it so much better that... well. Well played. My hat's off to you.
Why thank you :)

But, it's Mileena, she literally was created in the flesh pits, and she does infact have a bestial animal nature, her fatality is to freakin' eat people.
Yeah but it's totally sexist maaannn. HEAVY.

And Tali is sexist too because she has to wear a space-burka - that's offensive to my inner feminist.

(not really)

I think you're reading into too much, it's Mortal Kombat for fucks sake. You do understand the character was created around 1993, right? She's a clone of Kitana and was thought to be part-Nomad like Baraka, hence the bestial mouth. I guess they're changing the story some since this as a retelling though.

If anything, she's very much empowered... she's a killing machine. It would be fucked up and sexist if she was just made to shake her ass in the background as you fought. No, the women of Mortal Kombat and made to fuck people up hardcore as well as any of the male characters.

The outfit is arbitrary fan service to young males that need pointless artificial stimulation in their games. The essence of the character is very much what we real MK Fans expect of Mileena. To us, it doesn't matter what her costume looks like, we know what she's all about... and being dominated by the male characters via story line is not one of them. She serves Shao Kahn like any of his other cohorts. Shit, she's guaranteed to have an ending where she betrays him provided you have to fight him at the final stage.
