Has anyone ever said anything that you took to heart and listen too?
Fair enough if you took this little phrase to heart... but what he said also isn't true... too many people believe the misconception that when you're drunk anything you say is what you would have thought sober anyway.

If at first you don't succeed, sky diving isn't for you.

We all know the proper version, which is my contribution.

A positive attitude may not make you feel any better, but it will piss people off enough to make it worth the effort.

Yes.
Albert Einstein, he has alot of quotes that have stuck with me.
They may not be that inspiring to others, but to me they mean alot.
My favorite is

"A person who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new"

A wise, sarcastic man once said:
"Everybody lies."

And someone once said: "The truth comes from drunk men and little kids."

This is one I can't quiet remember were I got from, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"
I don't like that quote myself, it's not useful in many real world situations and it certainly isn't true. You only stab ones eye out if one have done a bad deed. Scare the world into no doing bad deeds and BAM! functioning society (Yes I know these views are far too idealistic).
The quote isn't about retributive justice (the idea that bad deeds should be punished because they are immoral), it is about revenge

"Therefore the injury that is to be done to a man ought to be of such a kind that one does not stand in fear of revenge," Machiavelli.

"Keep your friends close, kill your enemies," in Courage Wolf's words.

I was at a graveyard near home and i saw a grave that said.

Stranger take heed as you pass by,
as you are now, so once was I,
As I am now, Soon you will be,
Prepare yourself to follow me.

Oh dear

One of the few pieces of useful advice my Dad gave me;

"Forgiveness is easier to get than permission."
You realize thats a cunthair away from justifying rape? Hell, it IS justifying rape. Your dad raped your mother.
Oh dude, what?

That's morbidly beautiful.

OT: All the boys in my school were practicing the Haka (Maori ritual, I live in NZ) and not doing a very good job. Teacher says,
"It's a sad day when I can stand here and make more noise alone than an entire room of you."
Harsh but fair.

Whilst running a cross country run at secondary school and struggling with asthma, one of my fellow asthma sufferers turned to me and said "You're only running for yourself".

Clearly the most obvious way to take that would be just to be selfish but I sort of turn to it whenever I'm doing something for my own advancement to help me ignore any external sources of pressure or expectation.

VERY true statement.

One thing that my father told me at 16 came after I was angry after a shift at my part-time job and got into his car grumbling. He told me "Don't worry, you only have 50 more years to go" when I told him I was sick of the job.
Regardless of my career choice, wot he said is basically true these years later: barring some financial miracle, I am STILL going to have to work, so I need to just suck it up and do it.
