I've been saying this since before Gen IV was announced. A Pokemon MMO is such a badass idea.

Instead of races, you'd start out as gym trainers and as you advance levels, you can either choose to level up your first pokemon or improve trainer stats, such as luck in catching pokemon, friendliness with pokemon, tactics and such.

With tactics would develop a skill tree that improves the way your pokemon develops, the moves it learns, etc.

I mean, there could also be breeders and coordinators and Team Rocket and Team Magma/Aqua and Team Galaxy.... [/gush]

And of course they would have their own skill sets too... Upgrade your Team Rocket trainer in technical stuff enough and they'll develop the Dark Ball, etc.

AAAAH I WANT IT NOW

[HEADING=2]And I don't even like MMOS[/HEADING]

I know, but those always have the threat of shutting down over them.

If a game had multiple save slots, it'd be easier to cheat. (for example, using two DS's to trade back and forth legendary and starter pokemon to cheat in another save file)

True, but if you can't trade between save files without an intermediary, such as in your hypothetical example, it's a moot point. If you had access to multiple DS's and copies of the game already, you could cheat the same way on a separate cartridge.

To influence trading with other people. It gave a real challenge to "catch 'em all!" before the GTS came about in Diamond and Pearl.
With legendaries (and eevee) combined with the sheer number of pokemon in the first place, you were probably going to have to trade some, versions or no.
And since the GTS is out...

The MMO should have all the Regions, people can only get Legendary pokemon from events, harder to lvl your pokemon, and a final champion league with like 5 battles in a row against lvl 100s and no chance to heal in between for players who beat all the pokemon leagues.

If it worked it is all pokemon ever wanted. The game would have to be heavily instanced though to avoid capture steals and would end up more like a CORPG. It could definitely work but they need to have pokemon wander around the enviroment(FFXII style) as that is what people want. A 3d pokemon game that is like the show. This is all we ever wanted. The scale of it would be massive but graphics could be easily solved and kept good by making it cel shaded(wouldn't feel right if it wasn't cel shaded anyway). What is great about cel shading as well is it is quite timeless and ages well(see TF2, Wind Waker, Viewtiful Joe, etc).

If it is not instanced or at least instanced to a degree which kinda kills the MMO side people want it could have so many problems. Maybe making only pokemon battles instanced a bit more like SO:TTEOT style which actually on reflection would probably be better.

There is no problems with the series! WHY can't ANYONE see that?
Its all the same, "I don't like Pokemon Black and White" bullshit, even though they never played the game

Now that that is out of the way...

An MMO would be nice, but in theory it wouldn't work, people would just immediatly catch their favorites or some legendary in an instant, besides, we need ALOT more pokemon.

I don't think you guys have this thought out too well. Some people enjoy single player, and playing games that are actually designed to be fun. MMOs are not designed to be fun, they're designed to keep you playing or to keep you buying cash shop items.

I have fun playing MMOs (and I play guild wars and don't use the the cash shop).

Yet pokemon games till are fun, assuming it's just a 3d vrsion of the main series with upgrades, why not?

I have a few grievances with the Pokemon series:

1. Having japan get the games a full year or so before the US. Why? don't the Japanese versions have an English language setting anyways? Translating does not take that long, even if it does not.

2. Having event Pokemon be only in X country or location, self explanatory.

3. Not letting us import our save from the previous game all the damn time.

We beat the elite four and became the champion, again.

I'm tired of it, at least give us the excuse that you can't have Pokemon go between regions, and have use be the SAME guy as the last game!

You know what would solve these in one fell swoop? an MMO.

It'd solve every damned problem, the series already has MMO like gameplay and world setup, so why not?

It'd be PERFECT!

Thoughts?
Don't quote me, but I believe Nintendo stated that they have no plans for a Pokemon MMO. I however have thought about this idea before and think its amazing, but alas, no such luck.

I agree, this idea had originally come to me during a mixture of a wow binge and a break for Pokemon fire red. Having the ability to have, at least (before expected expansions) I would say 70-100 Pokemon. All to capture, level up to probably 99 (or higher), with already pre-built levels for abilities. Make it less of a co-op MMO and far more PvP single player based (with your Pokemon who you take control of at time of summon). The elite 4 would be the Pokemon equivalent of "raid bosses" and give players the ability to participate in double/triple battles as well as co-op journey through dungeons and missions.

I would sink so much more time on this than any other conceivable MMO if it was done right. Pokemon basically has the addictiveness of an MMO anyways. I have been playing Pokemon at least once or twice a year (probably ending up averaging 3-4 times a year, since the game came out; If they made a MMO I could kiss my life goodbye. So many more leveling opportunities and re-playability (like the original Pokemon games), along with a PvP that I could actually get into, figuring I was never big into PvP in any other games really.

It really is a shame they refuse to make it, its like they are sitting on an untapped gold mine they refuse to excavate.

Yep.

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

A Pokemon MMO would not be very fun in my opinion as it is a turn by turn instead of the kind of fighting we would see in games like Guild Wars and WoW. However, what I want to see is a split Wii/DS version of the game like a couple of the newer Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles ones.

For years, we Pokemon fans have wanted to explore all the regions in one game, on the big screen with unique attack animations, sounds, textures, ect. While Pokemon Colosseum and XD where the first step, they were not quite what we wanted. So I propose that one version be made for the Wii just like the fans want and another made for whatever DS is out at the time and have cross compatibility. It's HD Pokemon goodness at home, and it's portable.

Well that's my two cents and I stick by my logic that every game series would be better if developers went to forums and used their ideas instead of trying to bull shit features that nobody likes.

MMO's solve nothing. They pretty much make everything worse.
DC Online/Champions Online for example. How amazing would those have been as single player games? Especially for people like me who have bad connections and cant afford High end PC's.
A Pokemon MMO would ruin the franchise, although I havent played since Gold(Only going back for Fire red). The games have a perfected formula, taking things out in order to make it easier to have another person in game is just stupid. Trading and Battling over WiFi is basically the same, it just means you dont have that other person restricting the gameplay.
Changes to the story would probably be the worst change, the main focus of pokemon is getting through all the little sidequests in order to get to the final gym, how could you do this if some other player comes and gets rid of team rocket just before you?

This has been proposed before. Nintendo does not want to fix the series. Why do the games on a DS still only have one save slot? Why do versions still exist when the data can easily be fit on a single cartridge.

Nintendo is perfectly happy with the money printing formula they have.
Slippery slope if you added 2 game slots why not add the in game neon/pink option(don't think there's been an neon or pink one yet)
and then people could trade with themselves thereby removing the only parentaly redeeming feature in that socialisation on their spawns behalf is the only way to finish the game
