A PS3- Is It Worth It?

It sort of depends on what your major uses for it will be. Game-wise, it's library isn't as extensive as the 360's but it does have some nice exclusives (Demon's Souls, God of War, MGS4, etc.); there's also downloadable PS1 games if you have some fond memories. The online play may not match up with Xbox Live (I can't really tell any major difference in performance but I'm not online much), but it's free, so you don't end up essentially paying for the console over and over again.

My primary use for the PS3 is a DVD player, but that's mostly because I've lost a lot of interest in console gaming (PC, I want my life back!). As off-putting as the price may be, I'd say it's a worthy buy, especially if you don't already have a DVD/Blu-Ray player. Perhaps its greatest strength is it's multi-use nature.

All things considered, the PS3 and 360 are pretty evenly matched, but the PS3 has a ton of fantastic exclusives that make it worth buying, especially now that they've had their price cut in half to two hundred ninety nine us dollars.
I agree with this. 360 and PS3 are the same but in my opinion, PS3 exclusives are pretty much consistently better than the 360 ones.

The PS3 has Uncharted, Valkyria Chronicles, Killzone, MAG, Metal Gear Solid 4, God of War, Resistance, Fat Princess, Motorstorm and Demons Souls whereas the only notable 360 exclusives I can think off are Halo, Gears of War and Mass Effect.
Also Mass Effect 2 is coming to PS3 next spring.

Im trying not to sound too much like a PS3 fanboy so Ill say that PS3 online play is definatly worse than the 360 but it is free and the 360 controller is better than the PS3 one ... Thats all Ive got.

Currently I own an Xbox 360 and do all my gaming from there, but there are a few PS3 games which look like they're really worth having a look at. For starters, MAG looks like a helluva lot of fun and I also heard that DC Universe Online will be coming to the PS3 as well as the PC which I really want to check out.

I just want to ask you (especially PS3 owners) if it's worth it for games like this and if there are any others worth checking out (Not LittleBigPlanet!)
Is now really a good time to buy any console? some developers are starting to say that the current gen has been maxed.. can't be more than a year or two before the next gen starts to tip up.

It Doesn't.

Don't expect common sense out of everyone.

I consider myself a hardcore gamer (rarely use blu ray player but The Dark Knight on bluray is awesome) and I don't really see any games that the 360 has to offer for the future. Sure they have L4D, Halo (all of them are basically the same experience they don't really innovate with this series), the Gears, Fable 2 and Mass Effect 1 but those few games wou't make me want a system. As I see it the PS3 has better exclusive games like the Uncharteds, Valkyria Chronicles, Killzone 2, MAG, Metal Gear Solid 4, God of War collection/3, Resistance 1+2, Fat Princess, Motorstorm, InFamous, LBP, Gran Turismo 5, the new FF game thats coming out and many great games are coming next year like InFamous 2 and Killzone 3. I didn't really hear anything come out of he Xbox side (haven't really followed M$ though) and the only thing that interests me is Reach. I'm seriously considering selling my 360 and focusing all my attention on my PS3 because the only new games that interest me are Gears 3 and Reach.

Short run yes, long run no.
other way around I believe.

I recently got a PS3 as well as already having an Xbox 360, it is great fun with all the different games I can play and there are some good ones coming out. Also the Blu-ray is pretty good if you have a nice TV. I do recommend it.

I think it is worth it. PC + PS3 = no need for a 360 (unless you need a boat anchor with a red ring). 360 is only worth it if you like Halo. Oh, and three words for why it will be completely worth it in the future:
Twisted. Fucking. Metal.

Seconded...apparently Haze is better than Uncharted 2 o_O

OT: As someone posted earlier, look at the exclusives, see if there are enough that you like to warrant buying it.

even if devs have been saying that, last year microsoft and sony both said that they planned on having the 360 and ps3 last another five years so i don't think the next gen is going to come up too soon.

I love my PS3, on a HDTV and surround sound Iron Man, Transformers (even thought it's terrible) and a like films all look amazing on blu-ray.

The games, well it's the same for every console, some are amazing others arn't, the online is pretty average, then again I don't know how people say any online system is amazing, they're all pretty much the same.

It's an investment, if you can afford it, alongside some sort or extended warrenty go for it.

You know what?

Get it, You have a Xbox, you got a PC, and you should get a wii.
No one gets left out, you can play what you want without the moaning and groaning. I have a PS3 (Linda) and I have a Wii. I have a PC in which I played my games and Mass effect. I got a Wii to Play Mario and smash bros. I have a PS3 to play any other stuff.

INB4 Xbox fanb... nevermind.
Oooh, brilliant repartee. You subtly insinuated that anyone who found their PS3 to be an unwise purchase is actually a rabid and irrational fanboy of the competing console, a statement that is logically infallible and not at all composed of hyperbole.

My PS3 sees duty as a media player a lot more than as a gaming machine: for my tastes, the 360 has a much superior library. As nearly everyone has said: it depends on whether you need a blu-ray player, and how much the exclusives appeal to you.
