Sure for the first week...then you realize what a big waste it was as you watch collect dust in the corner >.>
My PS3, which I use DAILY and Ive had it nearly 2 years, would like a word with you

Actually, since I post on the Escapist forums using it, it kinda already is having a word with you right now =)

Getting a PS3 is a good idea by the way...At least its exclusives go beyond "amoured space marine vs aliens" shite that the Xbox has
Factor in Blu-Ray (no disc swapping), PS1 games, Playstation Plus subscription that gives you FREE GAMES every month should you choose to subscribe, free online gaming, a GREAT ONLINE SYSTEM contrary to what the 360 fanboys say as Ive had more issues with XboxLIVE than PSN, 95% chance it WONT break as opposed to the Xboxs 95% chance it WILL break, ability to download straight from the internet to a USB stick or sometimes straight to the HDD (got Pursuit of Happyness today with that method), supports Flash games, better quality arcade titles (WipeOutHD and Warhawk to name 2 of the best), Steamworks soon and last but by no means least you can use ANY USB Camera, headset/mic without it being official Sony =)

As far as games go I'd recommend:
WipeOut HD
Warhawk
(both the above can now be found on disc)
MAG
Heavy Rain
God of War collection
Pain
Yakuza 3
Demons Souls
Gran Turismo 5 (next month, including Kart racing)

Ive been both a 360 gamer and PS3 gamer and the PS3 is by far the better system
Spent the last 18years of my life gaming so I reckon I have a good enough idea of what makes a good console *coughdreamcastcough*

Hope this helps =)
ok i agree with most of what you said save a few points i feel need to be adressed.
First nether the PS3 or the 360 are "better" then the other take this from a guy who owns both and owns a regular tv.(they are however both better then a wii:)

Second the 360 break down is no ware near as bad as you stated. It used to be MS fixed it and now they only break some of the time and its usualy the owners fault.

Third heavy rain is not a game its one big interatctive movie good yes but just a rent or a youtube vist:)

In closeing i would like to state once again a PS3 is totaly worth it. If for no other reason then uncharted 2 which is by far my favorit game:)

Uncharted 2 is amazing! I love how popular it is, and how SO many people love it-
Yet 360 gamers don't have it.
Their loss!

Shocked at how many people have not or hardly use Blu Ray.. Movies in High Def is the shit, but I guess maybe people dont have HD TVs yet
I think we all have HD tvs it just that many people (well in my case) don't go out and buy blu ray movies. The only one I've ever used on my ps3 was the Dark Knight. That movie is epic.

I think it's worth it now, because the price has dropped so much. At this point both consoles are the same relative price, so it really depends on how you want to use it. Before when the PS3 cost something like 600 to 700 dollars the Xbox 360 was just a better buy for me, considering that the PS3 originally had almost no games. Now a days there are pretty much a ton of games for both consoles. I'd say if there are a lot of PS3 exlusives you want, then go for it. It is a blue-ray player, even though I can't tell the different between Blue-ray, HD, and regular TV. I'd say if you plan on playing online check with friends to see which one they have. Otherwise it all comes down to exlusives.

After my 360 bricked, I got a PS3 and haven't looked back. Unless you love, and I mean LOVE shooters, go with the PS3.

I've been playing Disgaea 3 so long that I freak out if it's not in my drive when I boot it up.
If you truly love shooters you don't use a 360 anyway. It's either PC or PS3 with Unreal Tournament 3 and Time Crisis 4, and if Move turns out good SOCOM 4, RE5, Killzone 3 and many more to come. Playing an FPS with a control pad is a travesty.
I find the 360 controller to be better than the ps3's for FPS games and I'm not used to an M&K enough for competitive play on a PC. I'm trying though, god knows I'm trying.

But the 360's controller is the better option for consoles in my opinion.
Just keep in mind that Microsoft tried doing a project where 360 players can play with PC players combining Xbox Live with Games For Windows Live. They canned it because even the best 360 players couldn't keep up with average PC players. The trackball is the most accurate input device, which is why it's used by graphics designers, it's followed by the mouse. Learning to play with a keyboard and mouse will really pay off.

You could be quite right about the 360 controller being better for FPS games than the PS3 one, I've played FPS games on both, and no way in hell I could tolerate either of them for online play - single player is fine, particularly when it's a game like Bioshock that's story centred, but multiplayer I just shudder at the thought that I have to struggle to get head shots when I can nail them so easily with a trackball.

Currently I own an Xbox 360 and do all my gaming from there, but there are a few PS3 games which look like they're really worth having a look at. For starters, MAG looks like a helluva lot of fun and I also heard that DC Universe Online will be coming to the PS3 as well as the PC which I really want to check out.

I just want to ask you (especially PS3 owners) if it's worth it for games like this and if there are any others worth checking out (Not LittleBigPlanet!)
Not LittleBigPlanet...? not Little Big Planet. Not LittleBigPlanet...

I guess it just sounds weird no matter how you say it.

MAG is pretty damn unimpressive. DC Universe I suspect will be good if you're an MMORPG player. If you've got the money to swing around go for it, I guess. For Singleplayer gaming I maintain that the PS3 is superior, whereas Xbox is far better at Multiplayer games.
Normally I'd get DCUO for my PC, but it's a seven year old piece of crap that I don't game on so not much point in upgrading it.

I would argue a PS3 is well worth it, however I would suggest buying a 60 gig one off e bay, this allows access to the almighty PS2 library of games. If its not enough space you can always remove the 60 gig hardrive and throw in another one.

Now is actually a good time to get one because you can grab a lot of the good games for the PS3 on the cheap second hand.

Well, you've got Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Demon's Souls, Modnation Racers, Little Big Planet (you said no, but try it first), Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Gran Turismo 5 and inFamous and upcoming inFamous 2, MAG, Disgea 3, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Resistance and Resistance 2 and Valkyria Chronicles. Just to name a few. Beats the shit out of Halo and Gears.

I honestly can't tell the difference in online, probably because there really isn't much of one -_- Blu Ray is a nice addition and PSN has a bunch of classic PS1 titles to replay. Also the little "ding" from getting a trophy is very satisfying.

The PS3 has some damn good exclusives.. As I personally own all the consoles along with a gaming pc, I have the best of both/(All?) worlds.

IMO the xbox has the best exclusives, as for the PS3, the only thing I think really valuable enough for people to buy a PS3 for the game alone, would be GT5. I think we all know its going to be a groundbreaking game, and will be the king in the wide variety of racers - (This was the main reason I bought a second PS3 in our household, one in the lounge, one in my room ;) )

The online side of things I find that Xbox has a far wider community.. as every xbox comes with a mic in the box as a default.

Also without a doubt I reckon Halo: Reach, is gonna be pretty sick. :)

Oh what about that thing called Kinect? Anyone heard of that? :p

People have different opinions, there's no point asking us. I enjoyed mine and it never failed on me, but it did get stolen so it apparently can't sprout legs and walk back to me.
They're fairly cheap now, I've seen them in Cex for around £150.
I'm using my boyfriends right now and playing FFIX which he downloaded. I want a PS2 more than anything else right now :(

I love my PS3, but if you already have a 360, you're only going to be getting access to PS3 exclusives, so for you, probably not.

Absolutly. I bought a 360 two years ago for the fack most my friends had one and at the time it had better games even though I wanted a PS3. But PS3 has been making some positive changes in its game selection and I predict within the next year or two it will be the dominant hardware. I bought one last year because I felt this shift and I couldn't be any happier with it. The only negative is that they dont make enough games that have split screan or co-op so buying other controllers is kinda pointless. But thats my only complaint.
Have I mentioned the PS3 is not a 360? Its worth buying for that reason alone.

PS3 will always dominate the 360 in terms of hardware.. The new 360's still suck, and are still loud.

You're forgetting fantastic exclusives such as Heavy Rain, inFamous, and God of War. Master Chief doesn't hold a candle to Cole and Fenix is a fairy princess compared to Kratos.

You're trying to sell it as a good point that I get the opportunity to be verbally abused every other round of CoD? Headsets are great for team play, but when you get taunted by your enemies and scolded by your team mates, online gets ugly (this is no exception for PSN).

Another Halo game? Of course it's going to do well, it's Halo. Sure there's no MC this time around, but it's Halo. Unfortunately. A riskless addition to an already dry series with no doubt another 2D character.

Ah yes, the little piece of hardware not aimed at gamers?

Master Chief and Marcus Fenix are for Xbox fanboys.

Kratos and.. yeah.. are for PSN fanboys.

Both consoles have there exclusives, but just think about which ones are replayable over and over? God of war 3? Yeah its a sick game, yet no online? To put that in comparison with Gears (In which the online is awesome) there is no competition.

Infamous, is good, but we also have Prototype, IMO pretty much identical games of a different theme.

Heavy Rain, yeah thats good, but we have Alan Wake? Once again pretty much identical games, with a different theme.

I could throw out a list of awesome exclusives for the xbox, but im not going to unless prompted. Lol.

I do have to agree with the online side of things and abuse, but thats what the mute option is for :p. Also, where the hell is party chat Sony?, weve been waiting a few years now, and not even the PSN+ Subscription has it included.

As for Kinect, yeah who gives a f*ck. Haha.
