So, some of you might be aware of the planned boycott of Solo. Some people are really unhappy with Keneally after Last Jedi. They dislike where Star Wars is going. Some dislike how women are put front and centre on the billboard. Etc.

My question is - why boycott Solo? It has male leads, supporting cast and villain. There's hardly a women in sight. Aren't they just going to punish a male lead, thus the feedback to Keneally would be "put more female leads in."

Y'know, I'm really curious as to how this 'boycott' is going to go. Solo will make less money than TLJ (almost certainly at least), so that's practically guaranteed to be cited as an example of the boycott 'working.'

Yeah...sorry Star Wars fans, you ain't Rosa Parks.

Well, TBH, there's quite a few females - Qi'ra, L3, Val...yeah, the males outnumber them, but it's close to 50/50 (as opposed to the OT and PT, where female characters were very much the minority).

That said, I don't quite get the reasons for the boycott. If you disliked TLJ, fine. If you want Kathleen Kennedy to go, fine. But how much relation does Solo have to TLJ when it's a completely different movie (far as I can tell at least)? I could kind of understand the idea of boycotting Episode IX, but this sort of feels like throwing out the baby with the bath water. If you don't like TLJ, wouldn't it be better to support films that AREN'T like TLJ? And while you could say the idea is that you're trying to hold the franchise to ransom by hurting Disney's wallet, this feels like a shotgun approach.

Also, I have to question why one bad (if you think TLJ is bad - I don't) is enough to get you to boycott a franchise. If I boycotted a film franchise every time a lacklustre film was made in said franchise, then that's a lot of film franchises I'd stop watching.

But even all that aside, has a boycott of a franchise ever effected change? People say we should boycott EA/Activision/AAA games/whatever all the time, it doesn't stop those games from selling.

Edit: I should specify that I'm actually looking forward to Solo myself. I didn't for a long time, but I will admit that the trailers have sold me on it.

I've heard there's some controversy about the guy playing Han. In a panel they said he was their first choice. Supposedly better people exist for the task (the main task portraying a young Han Solo as well as possible). Maybe the guy was schemed in.

I don't give a damn about the movie, though it's still cool to have a Finnish guy in the furry lead role.

I guess I'm inadvertently boycotting the film by not being in the least bit interested in it. But that would've happened no matter what everyone else moaned about. The sound of fan-service sirens are loud and bellowing from this one; not much hope for a new and imaginative story there. The hype is flaccid.

From what I understand, a number people are unhappy about the direction Star Wars as a franchise seems to be going, for several different reasons, and want to express their discontent in the only way that actually has a chance of making Disney care; Solo just happens to be the one that's coming out at the moment. I'd be very surprised if the same people don't call for a boycott of Episode IX and whichever spinoff comes after that, barring some actual shakeup at Disney/Lucasfilms.

Now, me, I have to wonder just what precisely people expected would happen when a self-contained, concluded saga was bought by a soulless corporation with no conceivable interest in it other than turning it into a perpetual money-printing machine, but hey... to each their own.

EDIT: Because I just stumbled upon this... have a video. It does a pretty good job of explaining what has been going on with Star Wars and disgruntled fans, I thought.

This is the first I've heard of this. Personally I liked TLJ and the disliking because whole women at the forefront thing is just petty.
Anyway I chalk this up to people being incredibly stupid and petty. They're getting a film with a male hero and a male cast because apparently these people like a sausage fest where women only exist to jerk off the hero, I guess. So what more do they want?

My objection to the Solo movie is that we once again have a prequel movie that's going to be bigger and and flasher than anything that takes place after it and consequently has the effect of diminishing the effect of already existing installments.

It's almost as if that isn't the substantial issue with the dissatisfaction of the audience, isn't it? But how can that be, after what we've been told by the media and studio representatives?

If only there was some way to solve the riddle.

Some people are really angry about the new Star Wars movies. Which I don't get because none of them have been anywhere near as bad as Attack of the Clones but let's be honest here, most people protesting Last Jedi and Solo now were around 2 when Attack of the Clones came out. What they're so angry about, I can't tell you. I was fairly unimpressed with Force Awakens but I liked Rogue One and Last Jedi just fine and while i can understand why some people wouldn't I can't understand for the life of me how people can seriously think they're bad enough to ruin Star Wars as a whole. It's a bit silly. My main criticism with the new trilogy is that it panders too hard to fans of the O?T where everyone elses main criticism seems to be that it doesn't pander quite hard enough. Well, that, plus Last Jedi had some really embarassing attempts at comedy, something that has never been the series' strong suit. But not to a point where they would destroy an otherwise very enjoyable movie.

I have no idea why people are now treating Attack of the Clones as the worst of the prequels.

Out of the 3 movies The Phantom Menace is the clear odd one out, the latter 2 movies are more consistant in tone and presentation.

And again I only watch Attack of the Clones, the 2003 Clone Series, and Revenge of the Sith as my Star Wars Prequel trilogy. I completely disown The Phantom Menace because Jar Jar was that bad along with a going around in circles plot.

The Phantom Menace is bad and boring af, but at least I can name reasons its competent in several areas.

Attack of the Clones fails at pretty much everything imo. The script is shit, the performances are terrible, the romance is just cringeworthy to sit through, incredibly dull, poor pacing, awful special effects, uninteresting characters and just horrible dialogue. Seriously I'd rather sit through Jar Jar than sit through that dogshit Attack of the Clones again.

I'm boycotting it because it looks terrible and doesn't look like a Star Wars movie, the only thing looking like Star Wars I've seen in the trailers is the Millennium Falcon and the wookiee.

This is a running theme I'm noticing in the new Star Wars, especially from TLJ, instead of using a recognisable bacta tank, they had that stupid looking bubble suit thing
On the casino planet there were no recognisable aliens, where were the Twi'lek dancers? We should have seen a Hutt there playing some of the games, maybe failing at running away from the beasts when they escaped.

Instead of having classic Y-Wing bombers (or at least updated versions) we get the weird Lancaster Bomber in space.

Star Wars just doesn't seem to be Star Wars these days and I'm not as interested in it.

Okay, this isn't focused on Solo, but I'm really sick of the internet doing the "Disney is doing a feminist propaganda!" thing. Or whatever shoving the SJW attack. I don't have any problem with female characters in a film being a lead, but goddamn I wish the internet would knock it off.
