Well, I'll be checking this thread to see how much the tension has risen.

Apart from that? Videos games and chatting with my GF while organising tickets to go to the States...Oh, and a celebratory Bourbon that evening, since I don't drink beer.

Got some Four N Twenty Pies if I really wanna celebrate though.

Pfft, no I don't

Wait, and Australia Day thread and nobody's posted this yet?

Before anyone who doesn't understand the joke calls me a racist for posting it, have a read of this [http://www.cracked.com/article_19036_too-stupid-satire-how-media-branded-me-as-racist.html].

Well, it's a mate's birthday so I'll probably be doing something for that. Hottest 100 will be on in the background, here's hoping Passion Pit make the top 10.

Tell her it's quintessentially Australian to supply a few dishes that exemplify your cultural heritage at a barbie to demonastrate how multiculturalism has saved our collective tastebuds.

Meanwhile, the struggle continues between me and my step-da to get him to make a kangaroo korma (we're the only 2 in the fam that like korma but he doesn't eat roo whereas it's my fave readily available meat).

Plus, y'know, Indian food is simply divine, I'd kill for some on Australia Day...well, any day to be honest.

I'll probably just use it as an excuse to have a barbecue.

I'm not exactly the most patriotic person, so other than an excuse to roast some meat, Australia day doesn't really mean anything for me.

It's Australia Day!?

You know what this means. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4AchHTN-XQ]

Seriously, I'd forgotten that holiday even existed.

I'm going to get the MOST AUSTRALIAN TATTOO EVER...

Dawn Fraser and Don Bradman having sex in the back of a ute with Albert Namatjira standing to the side painting it, in the background is Uluru and the Southern Cross. Sitting on the top of the ute will be a koala and a wallabie having a smoke and drinking beers while the front of the ute is covered in splattered kangaroo and emu. The ute will be a Kingswood 1 tonner.
You forgot to add an image or either men at work, AC/DC or midnight oil playing in the background haha

Playing cricket. For some reason a 2 day match has been scheduled to start this Saturday, bit of a strange decision it must be said.

Mine too, I can't work out that decision.

After cricket I'm having a few mates around for a BBQ, a few beers and a bit of backyard cricket.

That is the most Australian thing I have ever heard.

The funeral/wake dynamic works very well thank you very much. We remember our predecessors who gave up their lives and then live the lives that most of them wanted to.

Although of course, the racist elements who come out can fuck off and the turds who mess up ANZAC cove and leave it for the turks to clean up can go die in a fire.
I'm with you on ANZAC Day clockmaker. Although, because of my position at the unit, I generally don't finish up and get out of uniform until close to 1400. Then, there's jut enough time to get to the RSL, ready for the opening bounce of Collingwood vs Essendon.

As for Saturday, I'll be looking at rental properties in the morning, then cracking a nice cold beer and listening to the top order of the hottest 100.

You mean Invasion day? Yeah, I probably won't be doing anything special. Most places celebrate their independence while we're here celebrating colonialism. Makes you proud to be Australian.
Technically we are celebrating our federation, the fact was that the day of federation was the 1st of January, which is also New Years Day. It was moved to the 26th as a way of doubling up two significant events. Anyway I'm not yet sure what I'll be doing, probably drinking, tis the day I suppose.

Yeah...cause it's not like we haven't already said sorry, given them and their children plenty of benefits and services, and generally try and make up for something that we in the present had no control over. I get that many Aboriginal people are against Australia day because it was the day that we colonized and tried to genetically erase them, but that was in the past. Now yes, Racism is still present in our country, but Australia Day is about Celebrating being an Aussie, be you white, black, yellow, purple, brown etc.

So while I get their is some resentment, lets get over it, make up and have a blast with mates and family and look forward to Australias future.

Oh the delicious irony.

Thank you Aussies, for making me one very amused pom.
You're still my favourite penal colony.

Dude, ANZAC day is about remembering the fallen soldiers whom died to protect our country, you're not required to get blind drunk and act like a fuckhead, your just suppose to remember the fallen and thank them for their sacrifice.

You don't even have to spend the whole day doing so, all it is is one minute of silence and then back to whatever it is you would normally be doing. If you do that, than you're not being disrespectful, and you must just not have parties or events for it, which is fine, a lot of people, including me don't. But if you refuse to take one minute out of your life to remember the fallen, than you really are being disrespectful.
